  • Update: Check out a new, DIY ergometer version of this device:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This took less than 2 hours to build with the trip to Lowes included. It consists of a 1"x15" table top disc cut in half and a 2"x6" board cut to length along with some screws and scrap 2"x4" board pieces for bracing. Total cost less than $14 USD. A good balance trainer that is definitely more challenging on hardwood floors than on carpeting. A great ab workout as well as a reasonably good kayak balance trainer. Sit on this whilst watching TV or reading a book and learn balance skills at the same time!
    Great idea! I built mine a month ago and use it at least 4 times a week. I have improved my balance significantly in just a month. I am much faster and more stable on my Stellar SEL now. I did use an 18 inch disk instead of 15 to make it a little more tippy. I shortened it up a bit too. To mimick the leg drive you need on a surf ski, I built a seat and I can now really drive with my legs. I hope to post a couple pictures.
    Thanks for the great design!
      Seems to me it will be less tippy with bigger radius.
      You are correct. I applaud and celebrate your 9th grade geometry teacher!
    Made it according to description. It has a more stable feeling than an actual K1.
    What a nice and so simple idea. I will build one as well :).
    sushinami48, I've actually integrated this into my daily strength-training exercise routine by sitting on it while doing arm curls with dumbbells. Nothing like two birds with one stone!
    Wow!! I always wanted to make something like that. But as I am not good worker with woods, I had no idea how to make it. It seems to be pretty easy and good to winter trains. Here in my island the sea does not let us train most of all days, so that would be a nice option. Thanks a lot for sharing the concept! D
      You are quite welcome. Years after I did that I merged it with a homemade kayak ergometer and emerged with an ergometer on rockers that lets you train balance whilst paddling the ergometer. Great for the off-season. th-cam.com/video/JHc1xxfcW9s/w-d-xo.html
      @@DaveTheKayaker it says in the description pieces for bracing ,
      Do you mean paddle bracing?
      Or stabilizer bracing?
      Great video, im making it this week
    • @DaveTheKayaker
      @DaveTheKayaker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน
      Oh, now I understand. It is those little blocks of wood that you screw the rounded pieces to and then also into the main beam. It braces or shores-up the rockers
