All though this coaster was very rough, it will remain as my childhood coaster in my heart. This was the coaster that made me become an enthusiast. RIP SHOCKWAVE
This roller coaster still to this day was one of the most terrifying rides to view as a kid. Just the way it looked as you turned into the Great America driveway off Grand Ave. That curve drop and all you saw were loops and loops and more loops. It also sounded scary too when the train hit the bottom of the drop, some weird roar would happen. It was a rough ride but I've been on worse. Not to mention the speed you're pulling in the second and third loops is INSANE.
Just watching that looks so painful and that played a big part in its demise. The Great American Scream Machine had an identical problem except the turn into the break run on that ride was ever so slightly larger so it supposedly wasn't as bad.
Thanks again, you are very kind and glad you are enjoying the footage. I'm afraid it was a bit of a rush getting footage in this park and therefore I must apologise if the footage wasn't quite up to the usual standards.
That was a rough transition after the third loop up into that block brake section. I don't understand why Arrow designers didn't bank that turn more for a less do rougher ride.
Unlike Viper and GASM, it looks like this one doesn't have a trim brake after the first loop. It's absolutely flying through the second and third loops!
Yes. Which put more stress on the track and severely draining its service life. As such, it only operated for 14 years from 1988 to 2002. Not to mention, it didn’t have the extra cross-brace on the tops of the three vertical loops like Viper and GASM, which meant there was more stress and less rigidity, making maintenance costs significantly higher.
Steve, I've been looking for that station outro and intro "Thank you for riding Shockwave" for a very long time. Thank you! I am going to use it in my recreation of the ride in NoLimits 2 simulation software.
Hi, Steve would have liked GP to Enthusiast to use the footage so please feel free to do so but please do credit both him and Andrew 'Anton ' Marshall who filmed and edited the video.
Great footage! Could I please use this in an upcoming video about the coaster? I will give you full credit for this footage and provide a link back in the description.
I've seen videos of this coaster and the Great American Scream Machine and I can see where there is a problem that has been talked about. The turn into the break run is way too short and the train goes way too fast and the small loops definitely don't help either. The Viper has a slightly different approach to the break run which doesn't involve a short turn and from my understanding that ride is much smoother. Also one thing I realized about the first two coasters is the first hill doesn't complete it's full turn like Viper does so it makes me wonder if that had something to do with the roughness since just the pull out from the first hill looked rough as well.
This roller coaster was absolutely brutal. I would say close to two thirds of people getting off this ride had major headaches...... Not a pleasing ride at all. Even with seven inversions.
Those arrow lift hills are so awesome sounding.
Especially on Magnum XL-200

Mine was Batman: The Ride at SFGAdv!

Dear Shockwave......I Miss You!
Every time I ride Superman I always think to myself that I wish I was riding ShockWave.
the speed on those loops looks pretty insane
Absolutely beautiful roller coaster RIP ❤
i remember being bruised and having a wicked headache after this ride. probably a good thing they replaced it with superman. thanks for the memories
Thank you for the video. It was my favorite roller coaster and it's bittersweet to watch this.
I kinda teared up watching the video of it being torn down this was the very first coaster I ever rode
Finally! Some more off ride footage of this roller coaster! There is only one other off ride of this, but this one makes two! Thanks!
You are welcome, glad you enjoyed it.
Yikes that turn up into the MCBR must have been brutal! Glad we still have the somewhat refined Viper to enjoy.

Love the audio in particular lol thank you for the memories! 💙
Glad you enjoyed!
Shockwave looks so intense and raw compared to the coasters we have today
You can hear the bumping in people's screaming lmfao
Awesome retro off-ride footage of Shockwave from SFGAM!
Is there any amusement park video where you aren't at? XD
+Coasterknight Maybe...
+BryceFourn 2001 That was a quick reply
+Coasterknight Yeah lol

That 1st Giant Loop was so Epic. Six Flags Great America needs to make a Monument for the Shockwave. RIP
nate love better yet, get S&S on the case and pay homage to the original mega looper, in the form of: *SHOCKWAVE 2!!!*
Sean Lewis
Amen 🙏
I agree 100%
Be care out there as we are under Martial Law🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I LONG for the roller coaster trains of Arrow to make a return one day!
This is legendary

Hi , Glad you liked the video. Steve sadly passed away last year but would have been pleased to get your comment. Have Fun, Sharon.
psyclonesteve Sharon, sorry to hear. May he rest in peace.
@@psyclonesteve He died?! I'm so sorry to hear that...
Miss this coaster along with the whole peak I remember one year the giant spider was stolen hahaha
That thing ran an efficient 3 train operation. Why can’t parks now a days do that?
Hey, I was wondering if I could use this footage in an upcoming video about this ride and it's demise. I will give credit.

I was too late for Shockwave. I went in 2006.
Great footage! Could I please use this in an upcoming video about the coaster? I will give you full credit for this footage and provide a link back in the description.
dear coaster building companies... Vekoma ? B&M ?? can you make a SMOOTH version of this please ??
BRING SHOCKWAVE BACK. STILL THE BEST THEY EVER HAD.
yes sir. i say the same thing. Bring it back, but with new restraints.
That’s beyond unlikely, Arrow is out of business, the ride is scrapped, and there is no space to rebuild.
Yeah but Vekoma has the same track type and could easily re-create this layout. It’s not complex at all.

do you have the video of stunt show 1999
Never got to ride this :(

I did, every time I got on this thing.
Same thing with the demon
Demon is better than Shockwave.
