I have a theory, I don't think the speakers are broke. They may have the right speaker for the game audio and the left one could be for the power up ding. If you disassemble an Xbox One on the circuit board where the power button and disc eject button connect to there is a small speaker that makes the ding noise when you power on the Xbox. It would make sense that they relocated it for symmetry. Obviously it looks better with the speaker on each side instead of just one hole on the right side. It's a good possibility the left speaker is for the power upding and the right one is for the console audio..... Listen closely next time you power it on and see if the startup thing comes from the left side.
Could have made the bottom part thicker to add in extra cooling features along with 2 laptop batteries one for the screen and another for the xbox one s. At that point they could have added a discount drive as well. Might have made the bottom a few inches thicker but think of the possibilities with better cooling, a disc drive, and laptop batteries installed to make 100% portable.
Probably is that even if you add batteries, it's play time is going to be super short. This thing would be huge if you put enough battery capacity in there to last more than an hour or so. And then it would also require even more cooling
