    I think I mentioned it in the video, but just BTW, I'm not the first owner of this. It was custom made for someone else then I bought it second hand from him (I'm sure he paid more than $600 originally for it). I know $600 is high, but I'm sure many hours of labor went into building this device

    Done that with a PS3 & a 360 back in the day... cooling is really an issue if you take the housing of an old laptop. I ended up designing a custom cooler with a couple of heat-pipes, attaching 2 of them to a copper plate that replaced the keyboard and another 2 to outlet vents with fans.
    The PS3 (super slim) worked well enough while the Xbox slim was getting too hot after about 1.5 - 2 hours. Maybe i will try that again with a larger case

    Well one s is like 150 to 200 depending, the screen is like 50-100, the modding work could be like half the value in itself.
    The lack of a stronger fan is an issue, you can see some discoloration around the vent hole carbon fiber that would prob be caused by the heat. The carbon fiber wrap will prob peel at some point. Playing for like 3 hours might be fine, but longer...prob will not be good long run.

    Ed Zarick was doing xbox one s / ps slim laptops. his xbox one s laptop is $1,500 for a 500 GB model. but you get what you pay for. for over twice as much i like his form factor better than this one. the speakers sound better, and he keeps the disc drive in. but with everything xbox almost on pc via gamepass or steam, you can get a good laptop for $1000 and just use that anyway. and gamepass on pc as well.

    I have a theory, I don't think the speakers are broke. They may have the right speaker for the game audio and the left one could be for the power up ding. If you disassemble an Xbox One on the circuit board where the power button and disc eject button connect to there is a small speaker that makes the ding noise when you power on the Xbox. It would make sense that they relocated it for symmetry. Obviously it looks better with the speaker on each side instead of just one hole on the right side. It's a good possibility the left speaker is for the power upding and the right one is for the console audio..... Listen closely next time you power it on and see if the startup thing comes from the left side.

    Could have made the bottom part thicker to add in extra cooling features along with 2 laptop batteries one for the screen and another for the xbox one s. At that point they could have added a discount drive as well. Might have made the bottom a few inches thicker but think of the possibilities with better cooling, a disc drive, and laptop batteries installed to make 100% portable.

    • @jrob0021
      @jrob0021  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably is that even if you add batteries, it's play time is going to be super short. This thing would be huge if you put enough battery capacity in there to last more than an hour or so. And then it would also require even more cooling

    • @joebnco6617
      @joebnco6617 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jrob0021 this is true. Just know they have some smaller pieces for laptops now used in gaming pc's that are small but very powerful. Great video and it's very cool that someone took the time to put together the Xbox One X unit inside a laptop format which is pretty cool... But I do question the price a little bit $600 is a lot for a custom build especially something that has not been clearly tested by the person that put it together or maybe it has that wasn't mentioned in the video. I would've paid something like $300 or less especially with the cooling issues that you're having and one of the speakers does not work… Cool concept but I just felt that you paid a little too much for it.😀

    • @jrob0021
      @jrob0021  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I mean think about it, An Xbox one s alone sells for $200-300. There's no way anyone would ever sell a custom Xbox one laptop for $300 given that fact. Even if it only took 10 hours to build this device (which is probably a low estimate) they're only making $30 an hour minus the additional materials. But I agree that not many would pay this much, there's a very very small market for a product like this. I'm sure the original person paid more than $600. The power cable is a standard 2-pin cable that is used for both Xbox and PS consoles, as well as for radios, hi-fi towers, and many other things, so saying that it's a "standard xbox one power cable" is an understatement. Also the sound isn't a "standard xbox one sound" it's a standard xbox one/series sound.

      Surface is overpriced IMO, and their proprietary chargers break after a year, and charge $99 for a replacement. An even cruddier 3rd party charger that lasts 6 mo. costs $15. Screw the Surface Book and MS. Next laptop I'm getting is an LG

    I think you overpaid. My other thoughts is you could put some more vents in there yourself. I also think for this kind of modding it would be better suited for a Acer Nitro that has Nitro Sense so you can have the fans on as often as you choose.

    • @breakingaustin
      @breakingaustin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know that the only thing 'laptop' about this is the case.. none of the insides from the laptop will still be there, so whether Acer has Nitro sense or not, that wouldn't be left in there.

  • @thefoxguy
    @thefoxguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd do a better job about venting, adding more ports (like more USB), add an keyboard and build in the power and sync switches as keys on the keyboard, I'd also make custom vents and custom cooling with custom fans, I'd also take the xbox apart and trying to make it more compact and make a custom casing for it, I'd also make a better hinge and smaller bessles, put the status LED on the side or front like most laptops.

    • @thefoxguy
      @thefoxguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd also make custom speaker holes and build in better speakers that are bigger at the top of the bottom plate.

    • @thefoxguy

      (and also change the default xbox power plug to a normal AC charger with a bit more power to split it up between the XBOX and the monitor and so.
