  • Yann Morvan and Richard Lee are seeking an investment of £75,000 for 5% of their computer-based air drumming kits but Touker was 'amazed' they had the audacity to step in front of the Dragons with a valuation worth a staggering £1.5M.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

@jmh harris All the 'real drummers' are missing the point. Do real soldiers complain about Call of Duty games because they don't let you fire real guns? Do pro golfers complain about Wii games that let you hit a golf ball on a virtual course without any real clubs? Musicians are some of the most stuck-in-the-past people on the planet, especially rock drummers and guitarists, they will resist change and complain about new technology until they are blue in the face - as you've seen in this video's comments.

Man what a brilliant idea. When I was young in the music world we all had guitars and a few even had bass guitars. Only the richest kids had drumsets. The thing stopping everyone from getting their bands on track was always finding a drummer to join the band. Every drummer was in like 5 bands simultaneously. The rest had to create simple drum tracks using software

Been a drummer for a while. Played in all kinds of venues. Studio experience, the works.
I can say for sure the sound quality is as good as any electric kit and you can load sounds.
(Edit: The same kind of sounds lemme tell you, a lot of mainstream producers themselves would load in their keyboards, and happen to sell pretty well. Just saw the comment about this being a gimmick)
the technique developed during air drumming actually transfers over to the real kit very well
    I just placed an order.
For reference, with a drum module, rubber pads and similar sound quality, you would have to pay 600 minimum.

This exactly. More expensive v drum kits are actually constructed like actual acoustic kits specifically for the purposes of stage presence and, more importantly, physical feedback. Literally any electronically modeled instrument graduates in cost and quality as it begins to physically emulate its instrument. I understand the beginner appeal I guess but I highly doubt it would gain reputation as anything other than a joke among more experienced players.

As someone who played multiple instruments for all my life, including drums, I can see why this product would work for those who doesn't have space or money to buy a real drumkit. BUT, yes here comes the BUT; Playing airdrums wouldn't teach you one of the most important aspects of drums, the "resistance" from hitting the drums. The resistance helps you with your speed and how tight you play the rythm. I would instead invest in a electric drumset, which isn't more expensive than the airdrums, and with the electric drums you will get the "real" feeling that you would otherwise lack from playing airdrums. I dont wanna sound like a negative andy but the demostration drumming was very basic and he still played out of rythm, which is expected when you have no physical indicator hitting the drum.. Good idea but filled with flaws.

The lac of "feel" is certainly a major drawback but imagine you're on tour, sitting in a small hotel room. Even a small set of synthdrum pads may be too cumbersome, bulky and/or noisy in such a situation but with Air Drums you can still get some valuable basic practicing done.

    • @guitarsolos89
      @guitarsolos89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@tessjuel I agree on that part, it for sure can have a good use for some in a specific settings.. But the foundation of drumming is stick rebound and how you control the stick, that's how you get your technique, rythm, speed etc..
With the Aerodrums you could sit in your hotel room and maybe improve a drum fill, sure, but then again, since its a different type of playing, you will play it differently than on a real set, making the transition very different.
People who are on tour often soundcheck hours before the real concert to get warm in their clothes, they often have so called "green rooms" with their sets already preconfigured where they go through the last preps, because the real sets are what matters.
As I said in other comments, i completely get why this could be a good products, but it's definitely not a product you learn to play drums on, as the guys pitched in the episode..
My conclusion; If this truly was a revolutionary product that every drummer needs, they would be popular, and you would see famous/professional drummers use them.

@@guitarsolos89 I think we agree for the most part. These Air Drums should be a very good aid for mental exercises but although mental exercises are very valuable for any musician, they can never replace real practicing on real instruments. It's certainly not for beginners, you need some basic technical skills and experience before you can use something like this.

This is easy to realize with a Microbit and the Bluetooth-MIDI stack. It might not be so precise, but the gyro input can send trigger signals to another MIDI device, like a drumcomputer.

I bought a set of these some years back and they work as intended surprisingly well but I couldn't deal with the hassle of the webcam alignment and you still need a fair bit of space to get it up to 100%. It's neat but I think you're better off saving several hundred bucks for a low end electronic kit.
