    Grateful that organizations like TED are looking into the issue of climate change and helping to highlight potential solutions and emphasizing the roadblocks. It’s concerning for sure, but seeing that people are leading the charge gives me hope for change.

    With regards to electrification of transportation, it is also necessary to increase the efficiency of transportation. Public transportation is the most efficient mode of transportation (more than 2km distance).

    Grateful knowledge from Ted video. It is the time which we need to consider our nature and future environment. Long time ago, the nature was devastating by fuel and gas and it attack the biology cycle, as soon as possible this problem are coming in our society. One of the key to resolve the problem is less eat meat, and I agree with this statement. I know growing cows and pigs are acquire huge source such as water and stockpile based on that we don't need to be a vegetarian, we just need to reduce some of the meat in our table. This solution could help us to enhance our environment.

    I saw on the news the other day that CO2 emissions in 2023 will reach a record high, but is that a lie?
    In fact, temperatures are rising rapidly, and there is a recognition that last summer, agricultural crops were pushed to the brink in large areas of the world.
    I also heard that Spain continues to be in dire straits due to water shortages.
    In particular, doubts remain about China's mass production of EVs by emitting large amounts of CO2 from coal-fired power plants.
    This is because CO2 is a stable gas and will maintain its structure even after 1,000 years, so we should have reduced CO2 emissions even if we had to reduce EVs.
    Furthermore, if it is true that the power storage capacity will decline considerably in 6 to 8 years, I am against relying on EVs at this stage.
    Solar panels are expected to last more than 20 years, so drastic policies are needed to make maximum use of sunlight and temporarily stop factory production at night.
    If individuals do not take steps to conserve energy in the meantime, they will easily exceed the tipping point.

      Currently, we believe that nuclear power generation and solar power generation are the only products that can be expected to reduce CO2 emitted during manufacturing over the life of the product.
      (The amount of CO2 produced during manufacturing depends on the country's power generation structure, but up until now, China has mostly coal-fired power)
      Are you looking forward to nuclear fusion power generation?
      Nuclear fusion power generation is a technology that Gorbachev and President Reagan first promised to work together to develop when the Soviet Union collapsed, and in other words, it is a dream technology that has been around for quite some time but has no established prospect of completion.
      I am an electrical engineer in Japan, and it is said that Japan has little interest in decarbonization.
      Do you understand why?
      This is because when we do special features on abnormal weather on TV, at the end we introduce technologies that are currently under development and that we can expect from the future, so people are constantly being fooled into thinking that environmental problems can be solved through technology.
      The reality is that during that time, large-scale wildfires have occurred all over the world, and global warming has accelerated.
      In order to prevent a food crisis, we need to slow down global warming by using as little energy as possible, and look for the best measures in the meantime.
      I've decided that it's already too late to rely on unfinished technology, so I'm trying to find ways to use as little energy as possible.

    The issue is quite straightforward: All climate conference goals set since the 1980s have not been met. All this blah blah blah about numbers and percentages doesn't convince me. International relations (and other issues) are much worse today than they were in the 1980s. Without international cooperation, it will be very difficult to meet the goals of climate agreements. I don't like being a pessimistic voice, but to convince me that there is hope, it will take a deeper analysis of the reality we are living in today. This TED talk sounds to me like cheap propaganda.

      @@BGWee optimism generates delay. "We must take action within 30 years" translates to "no need to take action for 30 years". The activist industry must always insist that there's time available, and insisting that there's time available has played into the FF industry's hands for the last 60 years.
      There is no more time available. If we let the permafrost thaw then everywhere that has a continental climate will be deadly to mammals (that includes us BTW). Civilisation will not survive a 12-15 degree jump in the space of 1-5 summers.

    • @gasdive
      @gasdive 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BGWee the only thing that matters is getting CO2 back under 300 as fast as possible. 60 years of optimism has got us where we are now. Maybe we could try telling people the truth? That this is not a fight to save luxury waterfront property, nor is it a fight to save investment firms from having to rebuild wharves 1 metre higher in 80 years, it's a fight for survival. That we don't have 30 years before action is needed. That it may already be too late to save ourselves, but to have a chance we need to actually do something, not make up acronyms, make pledges, or sign and ignore agreements.

    Eat less beef is a very simplistic, yet misleading, message. Eat better beef should be the message.
    Grazing animals are essential for soil health and regenerative agriculture.

      Replace them with better grazing animals.

    • @amyw1850
      @amyw1850 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A limited number of grazing animals can be useful; but it is actually quite misguided to think that everyone can eat 'better beef' at the rate we currently consume beef. The problem is that feeding the colossal number of cattle continues to transform the land at an unsustainable rate. This is deforesting areas that we need for carbon sinks and that also are necessary to keep ecosystems intact. Using the vast acreage that grows corn & hay for cattle, to instead produce food more sustainably for humans would allow us to support our growing population without devastating the planet. It will be increasingly important for more people to eat less beef, mutton, and milk products. Yes, some grass fed beef is likely better than corn fed; but the less beef we eat - the better chance we have of keeping our planet from cooking. One does not have to be vegetarian or vegan (though I appreciate those who have taken those steps); but eating plant rich diets as opposed to lots of ruminants is definitely helpful! Plus, the sheer variety of plants & herbs to explore is rather exciting to experiment with!

    How are people so delusional. If you are about to walk off the edge of a cliff at 3.9 km/h, it's not an improvement to only walk off the edge at 2.7 km/h
    There's 1700 billion tonnes of carbon in the permafrost. *THAT* is the most under told story. If it comes out as CO2 it's equivalent to 170 years of current emissions. If it comes out as methane that's equal to 17,000 years of current emissions. We've already had a year above 1.5 above 1850-1900 (more than 2 degrees above pre-industrial). The permafrost is *ALREADY* thawing. The chances are that most of it will come out as methane, and the enormous amounts will completely overwhelm the atmospheric hydroxyl radical that degrades methane into CO2. Methane is 100 times worse greenhouse gas than CO2. It's only called 20 or 80 times because the hydroxyl radicals degrade the methane into CO2. When billions of tonnes of methane hit the atmosphere it will just use up all the hydroxyl radical.
    Net Zero is nowhere near enough. Net Zero by 2030 is not enough, far too late. Net Zero by 2050 is assured because civilisation will not survive the 12-15 C temperature increase that will come from letting the permafrost thaw.

The current grid is not able to handle it.. without that, the whole expansion ov EV, hype allready declining, will slow down drastically.

      There's no design for a mass produced breeder reactor. To design one would take a decade, testing another decade building the factories that make them, another decade actually building the reactors several more decades. 40 to 50 years from now it's too late.
      If we go with existing breeder designs, we can't build enough because they're designed to be hand made in small quantities like Formula One cars. There's no way to build tens of thousands.
      If we go with existing non breeder designs there's not enough uranium to even fuel them all once. We couldn't even start them all.
