Chanel Miller, thank you for your courage and insight that you are worthy of respect, even though the justice system failed you. Sharing your story led to the impeachment of Judge Persky, so that he can never disregard a victim's pain and suffering again. You have given hope to other victims, that they too can rise to reclaim themselves, as worthy of justice, and able to heal. You are my hero.

A perfect example of why we need more women in our state and federal legislatures. You are a brave woman. Keep your head high as you are an inspiration to all of us who see the injustices in our legal system.

I admire her strength, wisdom, and courage speaking out. You can’t understand how difficult it is to speak about being the victim of a sexual assault unless it happens to you. It alters who you are, who you can become. It steals your potential when your humanity is ignored or denied. Anyone who thinks that women ‘just want attention’ by coming forward should be grateful life has been so kind to them and shut their mouth. If I heard my father say such a thing growing up with my hidden shame- it would’ve gutted me and forever changed the way I saw myself and him. If you have daughters and you think they would come to you after such an experience- think again. Our culture has continuously reinforced the idea that victims ‘allowed’ themselves to be victims... that they wanted it, ‘asked for it’. Especially when you are too young to understand the complexities of society or what sex even is- so you can’t define what happened to you because you don’t know... kids internalize and let it define them moving forward under the false belief that they can ignore the impact of the effect by denying its existence. The shame shedding that has taken place over the past couple of years as the result of brave women speaking out would’ve been so powerful to me 20 years ago. I greatly admire and respect her decision to come forward. Doing so makes such a difference for future generations and I am incredibly grateful to women who find their voice and use it regardless of the personal risk and backlash they may suffer as a result.
    Thank you Chanel!!!

no privacy I have nothing but pity for someone whose world is so small, and understanding so shallow, that this seems like a reasonable statement.
I sincerely hope you are able to learn how damaging defenses like that are... how those type of statements grant permission or muddy the waters for young men... and experience isn’t what educates you. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

Chanel Mille is right. Our whole system has become a twisted machiavellian nightmare: Perpetrators are allowed to get away with accusing their victims of crime they've committed.

@no privacy I can't walk to my car late at night while on the phone
I can't open up my windows when I'm home alone
I can't go to the bar without a chaperone
      I can't wear a mini-skirt if it's the only one I own
      I can't use public transportation after 7pm
I can't be brutally honest when you slide into my DMs
I can't go to the club just to dance with my friends
And I can't ever leave my drink unattended
But it sure is a scary time for boys
Yeah, gentlemen band together make some noise
It's really tough when your reputation's on the line
And any woman you've assaulted could turn up any time
Yeah, it sure is a scary time for guys
Can't speak to any woman or look her in the eyes
It's so confusing, is it rape or is it just being nice?
So inconvenient that you even have to think twice

@Ricky Rari AKA Mr. Ferrari I will. One in four college women are sexually assaulted in college, in the USA. One in five college women are raped in college in the USA. Those numbers are 1 in 13, and 1 in 20 for me, respectively.

As somebody who experienced something as a teenager that should be able to get a "Yes" from a jury, but knows that this womans story is an example of why I can't go through with any judicial pursuit. The back and forth between whether I could do something about it all or whether I should let it go, let alone know that you'd be able to exercise that option and it not be "depleting", like this brave woman mentioned. It's already a weight that I feel is stuck in my head and unfortunately bobbles around sometimes and justice will likely never happen, he'll never be stopped from doing this again, and there's not much I can do in this system. It's defeating.
Thank you for sharing your story Chanel and for helping people in a similar situation.
I hope I get to see the future where things are different.

I am so glad that you got least to tell your story even if you've not gotten what I would call/understand as "justice". I hope that your book and this interview have helped with the healing. I will look for this book and wish you only the best and God's Peace.

The fact that we keep putting men at the pedestal, privileged, simply by using the word "man" instead of using "human", we then perpetuate machismo and sexism and ultimately violence against non-male. Yes, I'm born male but I'm proud to say I'm a feminist -- the dignity and rights of ANY person regardless of their gender should be recognized and respected.

I disagree 100%. Perpetrators need to be stopped cold. They offend hundreds of times if not stopped. Sorry, you are totally wrong. Women who are assaulted, raped, need to stand up and prosecute each and every time. Each and every time. The offender needs to feel the consequences of his bad behavior. It is not kind to him to let him continue hurting people. It is kind to stop offenders in their tracks the first time they offend.

The only way to punish the powerful is to publicly expose them. They can easily pay off their victims or rig the legal system to keep their crimes quiet. Look at Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Dennis Hastert, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, etc, etc, etc.
