    I had never considered squirrel fishing before. I may as well considering my lures spend most of their time in the branches anyway.

    Last year I tried to catch bass on baits I never had success on. I caught them on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, jigs and drop shot. I'm still working on the frog and lipless crankbait. I did catch my 3 biggest bass this year all on a Texas rigged green pumpkin Mag Fatty. Two were 6lb and one 7lb. Love your videos.

      I’m still working on spinnerbait also… can’t seem to get a bite on it! Frustrating when my buddy catches bass on it while standing next to me

      Try fishing a spinner on the bottom and bounce it up and let it fall back down to the surface.Repeat this process over and over all the way back to the boat.

    • @vaindioux
      @vaindioux 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I try Texas rigs and spinnerbaits once in a while and get nothing.
      I get my Mepps spinners, Dardevil spoons and Hulla poppers and i do a killing.
      Did Texas with a zoom finesse chartreuse and pearl creature worm yesterday,got a hit in 90 mn.
      Got my 1/4 oz Mepps Chartreuse and got 2 spotted bass.
      I guess whatever works.
      It helps to have 2-3 poles pre rigged even though i fish from shore.
      I had no ruler or scale but i caught my biggest bass on a red and white Dardevil spoon.
      I was so happy, i was screaming at boaters to look at it.
      What i like with spoons and spinners, you can catch most species.
      You increase your chances to land something.

    “Sometimes I throw red because I want to throw red.” This is an invaluable and freeing statement/sentiment that brings joy to me as an angler. I live my life in a “ they bit that one, now how about the next and the next. Love staying open and curious. There’s no one “deal/juice” lure because as soon as you unhook and recast that success snapshot tis quickly in the rear view and the rich what if of the future is free to surprise again. Just wanted to pause the video and toss props. I find your sharing to be as Authentic as they come. Thank you B

      Thanks for the love. I actually have a hard time answering some questions about what I use often times. Sometimes I don’t have a reason. It’s literally just what I use and it’s worked. Other times maybe I do have a complicated explanation. Most of the time my choice is a mental confidence thing for me and has nothing to do with the fish’s preference

    I tend to hang up and snag often by letting it go to bottom. Your video gives me confidence to pursue it more and not get frustrated when I get stuck on bottom. I guess as you mentioned, it’s about where you throw it. Also I hear your words of wisdom with the key words being “learn it” and “learning” how to throw a lipless crank bait. Thanks for the video Sir!
    P.s. I been learning to fish the goat. Caught a few other day first time throwing it. Baby goat on finesse ned rig 1/10th oz. Hot snakes color. I swear every time I see or use a Zman product the name Brian Latimer comes to mind. Its always a positive good thought seeing a flash of some video I watched of yours describing a particular bait.
    Happy Thanksgiving to you btw! Hope you have a good holiday!!

    Lipless crank was the first moving bait I got a lot of confidence in, chatterbaits being the second. It's probably a toss up between which one has caught me more fish. But I ALWAYS love hearing experienced guys give tips on them, especially you man. You really know your stuff, you're super honest and don't BS, and you have years of valuable experience to back up everything you say. You're one of my favorites to learn from. Keep it coming B.

    I love lipless crankbaits, you hit the color part to a T. I do my best fishing with them. Caught majority of my fish all year long with them. My favorite is a spro aruku 75 with the clear chartreuse color

    • @dankjankings7339
      @dankjankings7339 ปีที่แล้ว

      That aruku shad is always tied on for me. I like the fact that they are more weedless than any other I have tied on. Why? I don’t know. I will use a silent one with a bladed treble on rear hook, steady and slow when nothing is working, it messes with the action a bit but finicky bass will bite it

    That's good stuff, Thanks for sharing the info. I'm on the Cal Delta, I basically do the same thing, but with one adjustment. Spring time, rain or shine, Fisherman's cut, (off entry into Franks Track) mid to high tide. I use 3/4 oz. rattle traps, they're heavier and need to be worked fast in that 3-4' of water above the weeds, ..its the speed that triggers the fish. I use the rod tip to firmly, rip the bait "up and out" of the weeds ..looking to move the bait 2+ feet UP in the water column, then let fall ..repeat back to the boat. They'll hit on the rip or fall ..no question when they do.

      I just caught 16 one one yesterday. Same color and all. 2 years ago I tried one and caught a 8 pounder and been fishing with them every since. I live soft plastic but never caught big fish. I caught alot nitvnot big. Last few years I been catching studs on lipless. I don't even use regular crank baits. Plus having a kayak for like 2 years now might helped also. I usually on could back fish. Get u a 1 knocker red and yellow red and orange or all red and u catch them all year round. I have no luck on shad color not even in the fall where they say make the hatch.

    Brian, you mentioned the shrimp bait in your presentation.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I worked on making a kind of Venn diagram. Of conventional tackle saltwater fishing. And conventional tackle freshwater fishing. Over the course of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Lots of friends that I knew. Took up fishing. For the first time (probably since they were kids). And they all reached for gear rods and reels. That I don't know enough about. I got asked a lot of questions (living in a country with lots of coastline, most people are not very far from that type of area). That is accessible to them to fish in. In relation to the Venn diagram. It was interesting. An extent to which almost all of the lures and rigging systems. That are used by gear anglers in freshwater. Are replicated by saltwater anglers in some way. And there are not very many things. For medium sized fish (say speckled trout or freshwater bass). That one side uses. And the other. Does not.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is, except for one bait type. That you did mention in this piece. You said it. The shrimp.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I'm not talking. About just any shrimp. There is one particular one. That amateur evening and weekend saltwater anglers. Of all shades and sizes. Seem to reach for. When things are bad. The Voodoo shrimp. There are a few lures in bass. That have a mysterious aura around them. And anglers only speak of those lures. In hushed tones. Late at night. That is kind of what. The Voodoo shrimp is to saltwater angling. Apart from whatever it represents. It just seems to be. A well designed, well constructed bait. And nothing else. Or at least. That would be my hypothesis. I was wondering. Is there any good reason? Why freshwater bass anglers. Have never thrown a Voodoo shrimp lure? I mean. Other than the obvious. That shrimp live in saltwater. Not in freshwater. I would be fascinated to know. What a freshwater bass would do. When confronted with that lure.

    Murdered on a lipless a couple weeks ago in gin clear water ripping it fast. A bit of a shiny bluegill color.

    That's the crank bait I have trouble with.

    Every time I try jigging a lipless on bottom I foul my front hooks in my line- what am I doing wrong? Do I need to run a heavier line- I'm running 30lb braid to 10 pound fluoro. The heavier line sinks slower- maybe that's it. I'm lazy so I just leave 10 on it, that's what I crank with but- I could up it to 15 I guess. Or i could run mono- doesn't sink at all, and gives me a little stretch to help play the fish- but I'm used to cranking on fluoro cause I like the direct connection I have to my bait- makes it super responsive and gives you more sensitivity. .

      Try 15-17lb fluorocarbon. Let it fall back a little more controlled by keeping the line tighter
