Definitely a fan of the retrieve series! There is always something to be learned from another anglers techniques 🎣 Thanks Matt!
thanks!
Thanks Matt. I always want to see the actual retrieves and the drone footage is a valueable, excellent idea. Most of videos, the camera is behind the fisherman, and only show after he has caught a fish, and him fighting it. That quickly gets old !!! I always wanted to see his actual retrieve, and working the rod, cranking the reel, stop and go, or how fast of the cranking, even when he is not getting bites. I always want to see the lure hit the water, and how the bank structure relates, and then the actual retrieve. I have a good selection of Warpigs but don't use them enough, till now.
thanks for the feedback!
When the water is cold I slow roll it, works great that way. I also use the same retrieves that you do. Love the lipless
Right on
I am one of those that really like the on the water retrieve videos. I am more and more working in all the variations across the baits. Thanks again and great channel!
Glad you like them!
One other retrieve is burn stop with the rod tip up and keep it in the topwater to 2' foot of water. My other favorite is burn and sweep. Nice tips.
thanks for sharing!
Before i watch the vid i must say ive had an amazing year with a small lipless (secret color lol) this year. everytime i went fishing it worked and 75% of them were with a yoyo retrieve and 25% straight with a stop here and there. Thanks Matt i appreciate all the vids. God Bless you and the wife, Hank and the littleman.
thanks for sharing!
"lol"
🤦🏻♂️
The Biospawn Rattlebot is my favorite lipless crank at this point. It doesn't foul and it just flat out works. I still have a whole bunch of Rattletraps, but I won't be replacing them once I lose them. The Rattlebot is taking over my lipless tackle box!!!
ill check it out
Caught my first walleye and and a few bass with the cast and real motion also with the warpig 👍😎
Sounds great!
Wow Matt! Easily the most informative lipless video I’ve ever seen! Can’t wait to use it😁
Glad it was helpful!
Bro I like how you said it’s okay to get snagged . Pro tip!!!
Absolutely
Love the retrieve videos and the drone shots give us an angel we don't normally get to see. Thanks Matt.
Always great to have an angel nearby! 😇
thanks!
Lmao
The retrieve series is so helpful! Thanks, Matt!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for the info, keep up the retrieve series! I always pick up new tips from them!
Thanks, will do!
Guess that early spring pattern works everywhere if they are real shallow, I'll throw a floating model .
Matt were can I start seeing your rods and prices?? I've been working Lewis and Diawa rodes and reels.
im not selling my rods
it does!
@@MattStefanFishing Sorry Matt I was thinking that you had your own rods out for marketing that you design, like K,V,D, and those guys.Thats why I was asking.
Absolute facts. I had an old man show me those retrieves years ago! What’s really exciting to me now is watching it all happen on live scope. Great video!
Right on
I replaced trebles with Owner single hooks on my Rattletraps. Worked out well this past early spring.
awesome!
Superb video thank you for the demonstration. A great reminder on the efficiency and efficacy of the lipless crankbait
Glad it was helpful!
Love this series. Really helps guys like me. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Really enjoy the drone footage, it really provides a visual to go with your instructions, very good instructional video technique with both static cameras and drone footage, looking forward to more.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome advice on lipless baits! Great job on the drone work, great angle to watch you use the bait!!!
I appreciate it!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us
My pleasure
Awesome video man! Crazy helpful!
Glad to hear it!
I was just wondering about Lipless baits.... you're reading my mind! Great video!
Glad I could help!
Great tips....the retrieve videos are my favorites.I like the drone shots too.
Glad you like them!
🍺Enjoyed the format /cinematography of the video.👍
Awesome, thank you!
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing and showing how to master those retrieves!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Thanks, you too!
Thank you! These tips have given me more enjoyment on the water:)
I'm so glad!
Matt. How should you retrieve a slow sinking or suspended lipless??
good video topic! thanks!
Striper love that Warpig too. I crush them on that same color here in Maryland's Ches bay tidal rivers.
awesome!
Same fishery here, 3/4oz chrome black Bill Lewis works good for them strippers to. Save me a few.
@@kevinbeaudean704 yessir! We troll with the 3/4 oz traps too and striper hammer them! Chrome if its sunny, white/bone if its cloudy. I was throwing the 1/2 oz warpig on the flats in June and they loved it. Fun on bass tackle to fight a 25+".
Strong technique, Brother ! It works like a charm on sand bars in the Connecticut River.
awesome!
Thank you for the video. Awesome intro
Glad you liked it
Great video. Luv the drone shots. Have caught a bunch of fish on lipless crank baits here in Florida. Keep up the good work.
thanks!
Great drone footage. Loved the opening.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great information, all ad this I have had great success with a suspending one over grass that hasn't topped out yet and it's pretty good on sparce grass clumps also.
awesome!
Sam what company and weight ? 1/2oz. 6th Sense sus.has not caught me anything but dinks ?
Thank u for the help buddy its fall just learning howbtonuse my lipless cranks and its funny you said war pig right as I was about to say just grabbed a 1/4 oz blue chrome warpig and a LV max 500 and the advice on 1/4 size in shallow water I'm so glad that's what I have in the warpig my lakes 8 feet TOPS and they live this damn lure lol
Nice!!!
Agreed, i throw this lure year around great lure for windy days caught my pb on a blue and lite silver in mid-March . 10lb 2oz in ILLINOIS
Love these series Matt, you the Man
thanks for the support!
You and Randy with y'all's "%" videos lol. Love you guys.
haha
Thanks Matt. I wish I was out there with you because after I got done jumping up and down on your seats, ripping lippless is great. Just kidding that was a joke about co anglers.
I think chatterbaits have anglers throwing lippless less and that's a mistake. That spring drag retrieve sounds interesting and looking forward to trying it thanks again.
haha
The opening was like one of those Flyover America videos. I need a whole video of that for when I get skunked. “Bass-over America (TM Matt Stefan)”
haha!
Retrieve/technique videos get me comin back. I feel its the difference between pros and us. Even with the entire knowledge yll have wouldnt get me to the pro level but i will take everything i can get.
glad to help!
Thanks Matt really thought lure was generally best in prespawn and have not fished it much in summer. Will now!!
Glad I could help!
Bro, I was just looking at this and then watched it and I had to watch it again because when I used your technique I tell you this a lot of the things you do I do already and once I asked my buddy he was like where are you think I got it he said I got it from watching Matt!!!!
Brother, I’m in Baltimore, Maryland and I just after 10 years I finally got connected with a sponsor
Awesome!
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video!! I use lipped and lipless crankbait. Sometimes I get alittle stuck but pull threw the brush and weeds. I feel like I am just cleaning the bottom of the lake!!
Good stuff
Cool tips thanks
You bet
Drone is working well for showing the details that are hard to put into words. Slow yo-yo is my fav for my area. I'll use braid/carbon combo, lets me really key in on the baits normal feel.... anything different is usually small debris or subtle bite.... plus the jarring bites are magnified by the braid.... thats the cooool part... lol. Thanks for the vid
thanks for the feedback!
Excellent drone footage intro...with elevator music? Matt, your having way too much fun with this. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great stuff. I stumbled across those first 2 retrieves by accident. Got a bad backlash. Started catching them !
nice!
Another goodun
Thanks!
I use a side yoyo too, to mimic fleeing bait fish, works if they are roaming.
thanks for sharing!
Great video sir
Thanks!
Love a lipless crank. Thanks, Matt
me too!
You have changed my potential. Thank you!
Happy to hear that!
I lose lipless cranks before I even get them out of my table box 🤣
me too!
Thanks for sharing I'll have to try these retrieves. I haven't caught anything on the lipless baits. Have lots of them.
good luck!
Time and place there great. Fall is really good time spring is better summer so so.
I kept trying, then for me after a retrieve and slow.. it just hit. 8 bass in an hour
Matt, thanks for the tip. How would you retrive in approximately 20 feet of water over a hard bottom with rocks?
yo yo
Hey looking for information about trolling motors I have a terrova and looking for a auto stow/deploy from hummingbird and looking for information have heard that the ulterra has problems and messes up if hits things and should not get it and get a ultrex do you have any words of knowledge about this looking for help thanks
i use the Lowrance ghost and its great!
Thanks for the series! How do you keep your drone noise out of your audio?
Its hard but i was able to do it with tinkering of the audio settings
I've had northern slam lipless crankbaits jigging through the ice!
Nice!
I've struggled with lipless until I actually started doing the yo yo retrieve. Havent got skunked yet with this method.
love the yoyo retrieve
Matt, what’s the coldest water temp you will still throw a lipless in?
42
Spro Aruka shad has been my best lipless for multiple bodies of water. Largemouth and smallmouth. I love rattle traps and rattle spots. Strikeking makes a good one too but the spro is awesome. It runs a little more nose down and does get hung up as much. I'm not a fan of the war pig but maybe I haven't given it a fair chance
thanks for sharing!
I am the exact opposite, the spro doesn't work in my waters but the war pig is great. If I could figure out why I would be the greatest basser ever!
@@kevinbeaudean704 I catch big smallmouth on Champlain and the St. Lawrence, big largemouth on the Flatts and the Potomac. Everyone has a bait that works best for them. I'm going to give the war pig it's day in court. The spro is worth a try
Yoyo retrieves for me work the best, for pissing bass off, they can't resist striking hard. But I do it slow, let the bait sink, retrieve then rip. Then let it sink, I always get hit on the rip up, never on the fall. Florida bass.
i love a yoyo retrieve!
@@MattStefanFishing subbed because of this video.
I use all those retrieves at one time or other. Those long rocky points are good to. They seem to be ignored in these parts, good for me. I also keep a mixed bag of lipless, never know what the fish fancy at any one day.
Nice!
When tied the knot do you use a loop knot
Nope
Maybe you’ve addressed this previously, but have you ever tried or heard of removing the front hook of lipless or lipped crankbaits.
i dont remove it but i cut the front hook of the treble
I am terrible about throwing a lipless, even though I have a bunch. What do you think about doing an Alabama shake retrieve with a lipless this time of year in New England?
its could be worth a try
I have problems landing them on a lipless. Probably loose 50% of them 🦈. Thanks Matt good information ℹ️
Upsize your hooks
I throw them on a medium rod and upgrade the hooks depending on the brand. I've had good luck with the Biospawn Rattlebot. The hooks on it are excellent.
@@sportsman9971 thanks I’ll try that 👍
@@thesonorandesertangler thanks for the information. I’ll give it a shot 👌
lost some too .
New to channel. Heard you on Paddle and Fin this week. Are all your retrieval vids similarly titled...90%...?
yes they are!
Hey Matt good advice but I got a question when you sign up to fish the moment one of the laks I fish here in Akron ohio is the only lake here I can't get a map of the lake from the Rangers. But this lake has some I'm not going to say pig BUT HOGS IN IT can fish the moment help me with this. Bank fishermen
They might be able to
@@MattStefanFishing ok thank is the new website address ready need it the other one not working
I don't think I use a lipless enough, I use it in cold water in tandem with a jerk bait. I change over to a crank bait as water warms. Thanks Matt.
you cant use a lipless to much!
Yes my favorite bait thank you! Also first!
it catches them!
I never used my lipless crankbaits as i did not know how to fish the. As it is getting warmer here in South Africa i cannot wait to fish it in warmer water.
give them a try!
I have files of Memphis grizzlies. I need to give them another serious run here soon
Interesting
thanks for watching
Out of all the different ways to fish a lipless I've always had the best success with the yo-yo
me too probably
Great video, one quick question, do you ever cut off the forward facing hook on the front set? I've read that helps with snags, or do you feel it costs you on hook-up %?
yes i do. i did a video on it a while back.th-cam.com/video/PqYqI94Vjh4/w-d-xo.html
Man good question I forgot all about that little trick thanks.
Matt, I'm sure that is where I saw it then.
I love a lipless and i just don’t throw it enough lol caught my first 6lb on one in 25 wind lol. But Do you have use it In windy conditions or can it be a claim day since it’s a noisy bait? That’s something I get confused on. Like a spinner bait or chatter bait has to be used in windy conditions.
it works in all weather conditions
Scam
Do a tail spin please
will do!
Great vid im sry for you guys that didnt do this from spring till now you are missing out big time
Tell me about it
@@MattStefanFishing hey this is tbe juice peope shouldn't share Matt and you kindly did so your a better man then me
One of my favorite baits to fish especially on the tidal Potomac river. But on the upper Potomac river where we have more smallmouth it's not as productive fish catcher. I don't know why.
thanks for sharing!
Did you try a 1/4oz. I fish the lower Potomac but would love to get at those smallies up there.
@@kevinbeaudean704 I have, even the tiny trap. Not to say that they don't catch them at all just not as well as others. I have had days on the L.P. with just a trap rod on the deck only. 👍
How do you drag a treble bait off of a bottom?????
just like a jig
Fishing from the riverbank I can't bounce my lippless baits off the bottom. I wouldn't be able to retrieve it from the grass if it gets to deep without a boat
thanks for sharing
@@MattStefanFishing Your welcome
cool
thanks!
I don't mind lipless but I tend to loose more fish on it. Therefore I only fish it when I feel like I can't trigger them on a lipped crank.
stick with what works for you
EWG hooks it will change your ratio. I haven't lost a bass on a lippless in years. I was the same way and almost stopped throwing them.
Lipless cranks are my favorite cranks to throw. I feel like I can cover more situations with them than with a squarebill or a deep diver. When buying a lipless, one of the things I look for is how it flutters down on the fall because I like to jerk and snatch mine around a lot like you were showing. But a good flutter on the fall is important to mimic a wounded or dying baitfish. I've found that a Red Eye Shad and 6th Sense Quake 70 excel doing that.
Also, am I crazy or were your power poles gone?
they were submerged holding me in place
Some of the best falling traps have a dead (no action) fast fall I have noticed.
Standing on the riverbank fishing rattle traps lures by knocking them into cover isn't always a good thing. Without a kayak, small boat I can't get right over the cover to get the lure unstuck. Being on the riverbank I am pulling it at a lower angle and digging the hooks deeper into the wood
a lure knocker can help with that
@@MattStefanFishing I don't know if it would work from the bank
1:03 Have you said what these five are?
heres the video i did on the baits a few weeks back. check it out! th-cam.com/video/U0KUaNbTyzU/w-d-xo.html

@@MattStefanFishing my pleasure thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏽
Keeping slow role (aka "famous" spinnerbait retrieve) top secret ? 0 rod movement kinda like your pull n drag Carolina but 0 rod movement...... Killa on flat/ mud, sand or stage 1 grass...no?
sounds
After watching Randy's video this morning I was expecting your clickbait to be "Bass 2". Keep up the great content I will watch no matter what your clickbait is.
haha! i was surprised to see he did it!
Well while I appreciate your vid and imput BUT here in South Fl.these retrieves don't work here Bass fishing is a driffrant animal here thank you
I completely disagree. Ive caught lots of bass and had high finishes on okeechobee using these retrieves. But stick with what works for you.
@@MattStefanFishing I sure will 👍

thanks!
I know all the best retrieves. 99.9% don't know the best lipless tho. JS.

Did Matt say Megabass?
I'll remember that burn it. Kill it
