Two additional hook modifications I tend to make when I fish lipless in grass areas is switching out the treble hooks for single inline hooks or cutting the downward single barb off of a treble belly hook to keep it from catching grass….I do this when I pump (yo-yo) the lipless bait off the bottom. My fav lipless cranks for yo-yo’ing are a Jackall TN70 (or 60), and a Spro Aruku Shad.
My favorite and most reliable brand has always been the original Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap because it catches water so well and starts relatively easily compared to others with rounded profiles. Still being made in the USA is also a win win for me.
Ike’s channel is one of my absolute favorites on TH-cam. The In The Shop tutorials are extremely helpful by diving into the details on so many techniques. I’ve stepped up my angling game so much in the last year using his knowledge. When I hit my new LMB PB of 6.69 lbs two days ago (previously 5.4 lbs last year), the only thing going through my mind was “NEVER GIVE UPPPPPPPP”. ❤️
You keep teaching these young young people and reminding us old farts of stuff that we ought to do that bladed travel is definitely going on some of my stuff that isn't there yet thanks again
Using 15 lb braid or less on med action spinning gear allows me to fish a trap slower. It also allows me to occasionally double twitch it to create short pauses without losing the vibration. Down sizing your spinning reel also allows you to cast far into the wind, but cranking the drag almost all the way down is usually necessary to get solid hook sets.
Hello Mike I love lipless crank baits 🎣 for saltwater Pier fishing 🎣 I thow it on my medium heavy Abu Garcia medium ike spinning rod combo 👍💛 I'm a big fan of yours mike
Another great video Mike! Loved it. I’m definitely one of those guys that only fished it in the spring & fall. Looking forward to trying it in the cold water. Thanks again.
Our rivers stays cooler with current than lakes here in New Brunswick. The Saint John River might be 25 feet at the most in the summer Nashwaak river probably 10 feet to 6 feet in the summer. I would have to check it on the map I have on my laptop
Mike, you are my boy and I watch everything you post. I am also from the Philly area, and fish a lot in South Jersey in the winter. But I have to correct you on something. 7/8th is slightly heavyer than 3/4th. But other than that, awesome info as usual pal!!
Those hook changes were epic Mike!! Maybe I'm using the wrong technique for the snap ring. I struggle with that. I see you don't wear glasses yet...lol Getting a little long in the tooth. I really like your explanation about slowing down in the fall with the lesser gear ratio reels and rod Combo. I've been doing that for years. Great video!! thanks again IKE
Can we please talk about Mikes proficiency with split rings and changing hooks? Most effortless thing I've ever seen at a task that I know isn't so effortless.
I use Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs on my Quantum smoke S3 baitcasters with 7:3.1. I used them on spinning combo years ago and baitcaster last three years now. I have five months before I get back to fishing
I've never caught a fish in my life on a lipless. I love throwing them though. Spent a few hours today throwing a small profile 14gram lipless from yo-zuri today matter of fact. Just that one technique I have gotten atleast proficient with
I see on the rapala box it says to use Sufix fishing line recommended. I use Sufix siege mono 10lbs and 14lbs. Sufix has other types of line on Quantum smoke S3 baitcaster and Quantum smoke rod with micro line guides
Loved the video Mike! Maybe (probably) I'm an idiot, but how do you go up a size and a half in treble hooks? I didn't think they came in half sizes, I've only seen whole numbered sizes. Anyone get what he was saying?
I got that mlf fishing on MOTV very good content 👌 Hope you get into MLF heavy hitters again 🙏 💪 💙 Just play it cool. If all doesn't go how we like, or how we thought it would .... ....... Let's keep our cool and remember how lucky we truly are. Would love to see you fish again. Or bro , get mlf to let you host a tackel show or tip videos show , Zona got one .... Zona Unplugged We gotta come up with a cool show name
Modifying lipless 😐 I'll show you modification 😂 I take a 3/4 oz lipless and stand it mouth down. Drill an 1/8" hole in the rear and use window & door expanding foam to fill it up. I remove the belly hook and it swims straight face down. On 12 fluoro line it still touches lake bottom up to 10-12 ft depending on water temp. It suspends around 14-15 ft. Go check my video and see how we kill it in winter on stripe bass with these modified lipless cranks
Another good place for a lipless, is near owners boat docks...Specifically the land owners dock area complaining to Ike about fishing...🤣😆 I still think about that video...Ike needs to go back to that dock area with a lipless, 👋 & say "good morning Karen" while catching some bass! But seriously, lipless are great baits...I've got over hundred, I'm sure

I cut that hook off too. Makes it run way cleaner and hang up less
Definitely watches tactical bassin

I have never caught anything on these baits.
Thank you for a great video.
Well I've got some things to try this spring. So many good tips on this one. 👍🏻
Great info. Thanks. I will try using a larger belly hook.
Good stuff Mike! Let’s go New Jersey!
This couldn’t have come at a better time, I’m fishing the Ray-l-trap open this Sunday

Yea. No kidding. I need split ring pliers. Looked like he did it with magic in 1 second & no pliers...
@@briankissling7934amazing. I can barely do it with pliers. Lol

Try reeling, then slow for 1 crank, speed back up for 3, slow it down for 1 crank, speed it back up for 3 cranks, etc

Like the pinky ring playa
Mike great video , can you suggest
A parabolic, but affordable cranking rod for 14 and under Floro and medium to small crank baits thank you
Find mod-fast or hybrid rods or a rod with glass in the name
What about a spinner on the back hook?
I got that mlf fishing on MOTV very good content 👌
