Pubg was good, But the games that deserved a nominee were persona and botw. Odyssey and zero dawn were also great games that should be a nominee to, just not as good as the big 2
I cannot recommend the 4 here enough 2017 was a great year for games. After the blunder that was 2016. PubG presence is very questionable tbh but it was a generic battle royal before they become super annoying (Fortnite came out a few months before this and essentially ran the world for 1-4 days

The orchestra is great, but going through all the videos from future awards you can see they really worked on the transition between the games. It kind of makes me appreciate the effort required to mash all the different types of music together.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a great game and it is my pick for game of the year, for me anyways, but props to nintendo for making breath of the wilds which is from what I hear a good game

I'm very torn. Persona5 has given me the most amazing experience that honestly shook me to my core. Yet Zelda was such a dramatic and beautiful change to Nintendo that I can't help but understand why it got GOTY.
I can see why, but if you look at it for the award for best music, Persona 5 wins by a slight margin. Zelda is a blend of old and new while Persona 5 is all-new (plus it looked like every player had a smile the entire time they played it)

Though I was voting heavily for Horizon Zero Dawn, as it impressed me beyond belief, I'm happy for Nintendo and Zelda fans. With all the good competition there was this year with amazing games, I'm satisfied that Horizon was seen as one of the best and that people enjoyed their games this year, no matter what it was. Here's to 2018's games and my hope of getting a Switch so I can try out Breath of the Wild.

Every game that got a nomination for the Game of the Year award would have been a bonafide Game of the Year winner in almost every year this past decade. To have Horizon get the same love that many others got made me happy in the end, and I even got to try out BOTW and I gotta say, it's a masterpiece, even if I do hold preference with Horizon.
Oh I got it a few months back, it's really a masterpiece. I still prefer Horizon Zero Dawn but that's just preference. I'm glad I got around to playing BotW.
Honestly, after all the games I’ve played this year, and in many years in fact, nothing has matched the sense of discovery and wonder quite like the breath of the wild. If I were a young child, like I was for the ocarina of time, I would’ve been blown away. This game reinvents the whole franchise and set it up for a bright future. This is exactly what’s Zelda needed. Nintendo earned this win.

@@tritiper4188We've eaten well this year as well, but lets not forget what previous years have brought; 2015 - Witcher 3 which won against Bloodborne and MGSV 2016 - Overwatch beating Doom, Titanfall 2 and Unchartered 4 2018 - God of War beating RDR2, Monster Hunter World, Celeste and Insomniac's Spider-Man 2022 - Elden Ring coming out on top amongst God of War Ragnarok and Stray There have been rough years for sure, but we've had a fair few good years too. I'd argue 2023 has been the best year since 2018 with how many phenomenal games each had in its GOTY category (not even accounting for other games that weren't nominated) - but this year, there wasn't a single game nominated that I could say wouldn't have deserved Game of the Year. Every single nominated was fantastic, and whilst there is certainly an order I'd rate them in, I wouldn't have necessarily been disappointed if anything else had won.
The music was so fucken good especially Personal 5 and Mario, also I'm happy Zelda won as long as PUBG didn't win no offense to PUBG it's a good game but doesn't deserve a nomination for GOTY

What got me was how this was Nintendo's first Game of The Year Winner at TGA. Now, without actually seeing previous nominations I would assume that this was also Nintendo's first time having two games as nominees with Mario Odyssey also there. But, I think BOTW gave a Zelda fan everything they could ask for and laid a foundation for many more Zelda games to come so that's why it's The Game of The Year.
It's also only the second year they were nominated at all, with 2015's Super Mario Maker being their first. They did win Developer of the Year back in 2014 tho

I cannot recommend the 4 here enough 2017 was a great year for games. After the blunder that was 2016. PubG presence is very questionable tbh but it was a generic battle royal before they become super annoying (Fortnite came out a few months before this and essentially ran the world for 1-4 days

The orchestra is great, but going through all the videos from future awards you can see they really worked on the transition between the games. It kind of makes me appreciate the effort required to mash all the different types of music together.

I'm very torn. Persona5 has given me the most amazing experience that honestly shook me to my core. Yet Zelda was such a dramatic and beautiful change to Nintendo that I can't help but understand why it got GOTY.
I can see why, but if you look at it for the award for best music, Persona 5 wins by a slight margin. Zelda is a blend of old and new while Persona 5 is all-new (plus it looked like every player had a smile the entire time they played it)

Persona 5 characters are some of the most boring and least dynamic characters in a JRPG game. They don’t feel like friends at all, they just feel like teammates and so of the crew is just so generic and boring (like Haru and Makoto)

Though I was voting heavily for Horizon Zero Dawn, as it impressed me beyond belief, I'm happy for Nintendo and Zelda fans. With all the good competition there was this year with amazing games, I'm satisfied that Horizon was seen as one of the best and that people enjoyed their games this year, no matter what it was. Here's to 2018's games and my hope of getting a Switch so I can try out Breath of the Wild.

Every game that got a nomination for the Game of the Year award would have been a bonafide Game of the Year winner in almost every year this past decade. To have Horizon get the same love that many others got made me happy in the end, and I even got to try out BOTW and I gotta say, it's a masterpiece, even if I do hold preference with Horizon.

Honestly, after all the games I’ve played this year, and in many years in fact, nothing has matched the sense of discovery and wonder quite like the breath of the wild. If I were a young child, like I was for the ocarina of time, I would’ve been blown away. This game reinvents the whole franchise and set it up for a bright future. This is exactly what’s Zelda needed. Nintendo earned this win.

2015 - Witcher 3 which won against Bloodborne and MGSV
2016 - Overwatch beating Doom, Titanfall 2 and Unchartered 4
2018 - God of War beating RDR2, Monster Hunter World, Celeste and Insomniac's Spider-Man
2022 - Elden Ring coming out on top amongst God of War Ragnarok and Stray
There have been rough years for sure, but we've had a fair few good years too.
I'd argue 2023 has been the best year since 2018 with how many phenomenal games each had in its GOTY category (not even accounting for other games that weren't nominated) - but this year, there wasn't a single game nominated that I could say wouldn't have deserved Game of the Year. Every single nominated was fantastic, and whilst there is certainly an order I'd rate them in, I wouldn't have necessarily been disappointed if anything else had won.
The music was so fucken good especially Personal 5 and Mario, also I'm happy Zelda won as long as PUBG didn't win no offense to PUBG it's a good game but doesn't deserve a nomination for GOTY

What got me was how this was Nintendo's first Game of The Year Winner at TGA. Now, without actually seeing previous nominations I would assume that this was also Nintendo's first time having two games as nominees with Mario Odyssey also there. But, I think BOTW gave a Zelda fan everything they could ask for and laid a foundation for many more Zelda games to come so that's why it's The Game of The Year.

@@RadicalCapitol Kate Higgins herself actually clarified: it’s not lip synced. She’s singing but the vocals are playing at the same time. This was apparently to make sure her pacing was correct or something.
