I was born and raised in Washington, D.C..I went into the Marine Corps in 1986 and traveled the world for 8 years. Where ever I went I took go-go music. It was like taking D.C. with me wherever I went. I'm 55 years old now and STILL ROCK GO-GO MUSIC. GO-GO MUSIC FOREVER. MUCH LOVE TO CHUCK.
Brings back amazing memories. I was a 17yr old italian kid from Socal stationed in Korea in the IS Army in 1984 living with the bruthas. They turned me on to Gogo sound, Mr Brown and Trouble Funk. Been a fan ever since. I'll never forget these guys going out getting custom made wind suits with "Happy Feet" on the back and long live DC. Almost bought one myself lol! Great stuff, can't sit down when listening to these gems.
Chuck was and will always b ahead of his time.. He smacked the world in the face w/this sound and it was so funky that the majority of the world either didn't kno how to embrace it or they were jus plain afraid to. Chuck is a legend and like it or not he deserves his plc. in the R&R HOF.. The man created a whole other genre of music and he should be properly and rightfully recognized for it.. U never miss a good thing until it's gone.. Maybe ppl. outside of the DMV who didn't pay much attn. to his music can and will appreciate his sound, his voice and his genius in the music he left w/ us to enjoy and party to in his absence.. DC STAND UP.. He gave us our own sound and staked a small claim in musical history.. I pay homage to the man and remember him by yellin, "WHIND ME UP CHUCK!" every time I hear him comin outta the speakers.. Thank u Chuck.. For bein the FIRST musician/entertainer to give DC a voice and an identity... LONG LIVE THE GODFATHER!!
Chuck and his group gave NPR Tiny Desk and the people who were in attendance that day, almost 30 minutes of pure hard work, brilliance, and go-go groove, while most of the performances on NPR rarely go beyond 15. Yes Chuck!
I remember when I moved from Cali to DC in 1994... this was the first GO-GO song I heard "Don't mean a thing! " (2nd was the water dance).... lost my mind!!! 2019 still in DC and still have not found my mind it's lost in GO-GO!

Amazing! Thanks Chuck & crew. What a voice and what a beat! And thanks NPR. I am a huge fan of both. Long live the Blues, Soul, Jazz, Funk, Go Go and Chuck Brown. I love you brother.
