Many years late on this, but u have been the 1st person I've ever heard mention how the editors and a ton of other behind the scene workers can suffer from piracy. good job highlighting that! I'm just looking for info on how to rip family dvd's I've burnt in the past. Hope something from this many years back might still work.
It's 2023, and I have a Windows 11 PC and I happen to find this video. Wow! I've been using this software to occasionally compress my video files. I didn't know that it could rip a DVD as well, so It's good to have a ripper backup to the one I already have.
When using Handbreak I get a message "No valid source of titles found" Don't I need another program to deal with the protection on the DVD or something like that?
You might want to mention that Handbrake will not rip copy protected DVDs under windows unless you get the .dll and install it to the handbrake folder. It does not come with it for some unknown reason like it does under Linux and Mac. Possibly the .dll already exists on those systems, not sure what is the reason. I only know I to download and install a separate file "libdvdcss-2.dll"
Handbrake mysteriously stopped including the ability to RIP discs some time ago. They never explained why. Then was happened is that if you also had VLC installed, Handbrake would use the external library from VLC but then that also was removed. The moderators on the Handbrake forum will tell you to go buy commercial software to RIP discs but then you don't need Handbrake. Since Handbrake does give us a lot of compression options, the better way is to install the external libraries yourself. I am ripping a DVD of a tv series. I am wondering if the first episode was recorded as letterbox, as there are thick, black bars on both sides of the screen. How do i enlarge the video, where the black bars are removed???????????
I am downsizing due to moving to a smaller apt and I have quite a dvd collection and I LOVE MY MOVIES...so I want to have them just won't have the space for the actual dvds anynmore
Handbrake was working fine for over a year but now when I try to rip the result is a pixelated mess audio is also bad. Any suggestions/help appreciated. :>(
I just D/L'd Hand brake but every disc I put it it can not read, I'm using ver 10.5.0. it scans straight from 50% to 52% then when you click start it says you need to scan the source first.tried on both a movie DVD and a TV show DVD same result.Has the new version had this option removed ?It works if I do it the VLC way but takes so long to do each dvd.Figured it out, works really well now
i'm finding handbreak to recognize some feature dvds with a bunch of chapters and it wants to encode them one by one, how do i combine the entire movie rather than just by chapters
Thank you for the video. I had no problems ripping the dvd, but when I open the mp4 file on my computer the video struggles to play. It has a distorted/blocky picture and skips a lot. Can you recommend a cause for this and fix?
+Stephanie Marino This should make the picture perfect 1st rip the dvd as a mkv file, you have to change the output settings container 2nd rip the file you just made as a mkv file to a mp4 file by changing back the output settings container as mp4

Hello - like your presentation. Can you do a tutorial with the latest Handbrake version please? I just downloaded 1.0.7 and the options are very different in places. Thank you!
Hi there. Am in UK. Really enjoyed the tutorial but.... my problem is I have an XBox 360 (maybe 3 or 4 years old)... shipped from USA and my UK Keep Fit DVDs won't play. A purchased Russell Crowe DVD is ripping as i type! I thought I'd maybe rip them and be able to change the format but using HandBrake, they are showing as padlocked. Really appreciate any advice, thanks.
My handbrake doesn't look like yours, I think it's been updated since 2014 but THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I've been trying EVERYTHING to download my dvds to an external hard drive to take on a flight to Europe. This FINALLY worked! Except the beginning is all pixelly. Any ideas to fix that?
I got a dvd (tv-show) wheres there 13 chapters or episodes, but handbreak will only rip 3 chapters at a time, i would like to rip it as a normal movie so i got all in 1 - pls help! :D
uhm sure, i can try. start with a normal dvd movie, thats easier until u get the drift of it :P 1. get "Handbreak" (handbrake.fr/downloads.php) 2. put in a dvd 3. start the program 4. click on "Source", theres a list of diffent types u can choose to rip. in this case u choose Dvd - Then the program scans the dvd. 5. right under the Source icons, theres another menu thats name "Source "dvd title" There u choose the title (there might be more than one, so look at the minutes, and take the one that makes sense fx. 01:36:56 the other ones are probably commercial. - let the next tab "angle" be as it is. - choose "chapter" in the next tab instead of seconds and frames. - and then u choose which chapters u want to rip, fx. if u want the whole movie you choose chapter 1 (tab) through 18 (tab) (these numbers are how many chapters my movie has, so yours can be different.) 6. Under the "Source "dvd title" menu is another menu thats named "Destination" thats where u want to place the ripped file. so if u have a movie folder choose that, create that or just use the desktop. - make sure u change the file name to ".mp4" at the end. 7. in the next menu under "Destination" is "Output settings" make sure that it says "Container" -> MP4, click in "Web optimized" if its something u wna upload. In 1. "pictures" leave it as it is. 2. "filters" leave it as it is ("off"), 3. check off the "use Advanced tab instead", 4. "Audio" heres the audio tracks, if your movie in has more tracks than fx. english u can choose to rip that with the movie, just click on "Add tracks" and choose in the tabs, in regard to the tab called "bitrate" u can go down to 128 bits, its more than okay ;) the tab "mixdown, im not so sure what to choose, just let it be or change it. 5. Subtitles, here u can add subtitles, click on "Add track" and go through all the tabs and choose REMEMBER to remove the checkmark in "Burn in" otherwise the subs will be on the screen no matter what, if u remove it, u can choose to use the subs or not ;) add more tracks, if theres alot of different subtitles. 6. "chapters" fuck that, leave it be :P 7. "Advance tab" leave it be, its usually good enough ;) 7. press "start" and the ripping progress is starting :P this can take some time, so go make some tea or coffee and wait for it to be done. i dont recommend that u use the computer for anything else besides the internet while its ripping. Hope that help! Enjoy ur ripping and have a nice day :)

yea i can help u, if u want me to walk u thru it over skype call, it would be easiest. If you have skype add me on it. Ill send u my email via YT message

+omran panda taught*
VLC wasn't complicated, and I could have explained all of this in a minute or so. Put a DVD in, select the DVD drive. Set a output destination, and format....click start.
for you yes its easy but for people like me who don't know computers or how to do this its very hard and I'm still confused :(
i Understand....if ur that new , i would use handbrake instead of VLC
I'm so confused, I have handbrake on my computer. I want to rip a dvd on my computer so I can play it on my ipad. can you help me?
yea i can help u, if u want me to walk u thru it over skype call, it
would be easiest. If you have skype add me on it. Ill send u my email
via YT message
for some reason i cant find the message button on your profile, so shoot me a message on YT so I can reply to it, and ill give u my email to search for me on skype
Why does this guy looks like William from can’t hardly wait
Awesome. Thank you!
Perhaps you should have mentioned that ripping DVDs for personal use is legal in all countries except the US.
what if I buy the DVD, ticket to a theater and donate money to them? Can I then rip the DVD?
Yup, the Fair Use Doctrine got you covered
Would you download a car.
My vids are all fuzzy
I like the way you teach 😏
If I copy my DVD to my hard drive, its NOT piracy, me buck-0.
OMG I have that same computer case!!
As far as i'm concerned HandBrake is a bag of sh*t, won't even detect DVD in drive
Have you ever encountered a problem with ripping interlaced DVD's I know you're supposed to have a progressive scan monitor or television And I know handbrake has a DE interlacing program But I still sometimes get the lines in between shots Do you know of a program or system that can easily rip a DVD without interlacing? Thanks
