There are 2 folders in the DVD drive, AUDIO and VIDEO , it will only let me select one of them. I guess its the VIDEO folder i need but will it still have Audio on the finished file???

After i downloaded that Dll file and put it where you told me, I go to open up HB and it opens but now when i click and choose Source (my dvd drive) it scans for a second then it crashes. Please help.
Sorry to hear that, not sure why that is happening if you have followed step by step, all i can suggest is re-visit 4.04 of the tutorial and double check.
I hope to soon digitize many dvd discs of old home videos from the 90s - The discs are the usual 4.7G size or thereabouts. When I digitise them, will each disc equate to the same amount of data or will I be looking at larger (or smaller) file sizes? (Assuming I choose like 480p quality as they were originally on tapes.)

Yes - fantastic - thank you so much - it still works, although if anyone else has some issues, then like someone else mentioned the version 0.9.8 works - the 0.9.9 didn't load for me. Also, I had to manually type in the link to the dll site (so paused your video to get it right), and tried to download that file a couple of times. Finally in Handbrake I manually entered .mp4 otherwise it saved to a m4v format. I think you did another video using VLC, but I couldn't get the sound using that method - for whatever reason. Such a clear video on the process which didn't make it daunting at all. All the best.

@@SuperPertinax not so good tbh xD Maybe it's because it has different languages on the dvd (German here 😄) But the whole dvd didn't work at all, and the different episodes are all pixelated and well ... in english ^^ wouldn't be a problem for me but my 6y old son doesn't understand a word 😅 couldn't find a way to select the language with handbrake. Guess I'll have to do it the hard way and watch every episode and record it with *OBS (not ocb xD) 🤷🏻♀️ but thanks for your reply 😊
I've done this before about a year and a half ago. It worked great! My computer recently crashed and I lost EVERYTHING! I am re-doing this and got all the way to "Source" and see my movie in the F drive (your video @ 5:38) When I click on the movie, nothing happens. Do you have any ideas what might be the reason? In VLC During playback you can press j or k to adjust audio delay (adjust step is 50 ms). If audio is ahead of image, press j if audio is behind image, press k

After trying to use vlc and numerous other programs, DumboFab DVD ripper is the one that actually worked. With a user friendly UI and lots of options in the menus this is by far the best ripper of them all.

I am struggling to rip a box set WITH subtitles, (no one mentions how to do that) I thought this video might be helpful as it was at least Windows based but it fell at the first hurdle! You say you cant get the most up to date version of Handbrake to decode the encryption, ...I'm using ver. 1.5.1, and it rips just fine for me, I haven't even had to "rename" libdvdcss by removing the "-2" it rips the dvd just fine. My problem is that I cannot rip the subtitles which are on the DVD, to the file. I cannot believe I am the only deaf person who struggles with this, yet no one bothers to explain.

I just tried this and it works a treat but...the disc I am trying to rip has a title screen with chapters which I can select to jump to. The ripped version (saved to my desktop) has come out as separate sections for the opening title and then the main film without the chapters.I had to rip them separately. Any idea how I can get it to include the option of choosing the chapters as per the original disc?

Just go to location/browse click on desktop.. Put in file name then OK... Then start on top menus bar.... Depending on speed of your computer about 20 minutes or so. Than says finished... Look on desktop for the file icon... Enjoy
Just click tab which says "subtitles" xD And there you can choose the subtitles. And which language you want them to be. Handbrake is super easy. Just read what each tab says. (Summary is for checking that everything is like you want it, Dimensions, Filters, Video, Audio, Subtitles, Chapters) But you really need only check: Video, Audio and Subtitles. All the other tabs are less or more useless. And google will help too. :) But I believe you will find it easily. Handbrake is one of the easiest and simplest DVD rippers I've used. But WinX Dvd ripper is much better. But it has price tag on it :'(

Windows 11 does not support handbrake lol, i wonder what if i copy all the files in the same path from windows 10 to 11 oh that now works all of a sudden, just in case someone can't get working on Windows 11

Yay, got it to work!! It didn't work until I took that little bit off the dll file. I can get it on my usb flash drive and it plays on my computer, but the flash drive will not play via vlc on my android box. Any idea why that may be anybody please?

When I went to the DLL File location you posted above, the instructions say to not rename the file, to keep it the same. I see you took out the -2 at the end of the name. It must work either way I guess.
@@SuperPertinax Thank you for helping. Unfortunately, when it's clicked, the .exe just brings up a black box for about one fifth of one second which disappears. I tried using program compatability, but it just won't run. Many thanks though.
That was my experience, too. And any attempt to improve quality either failed outright or was met with prompts to "upgrade/register/purchase". I think DVD Decrypter has to be used with this thing?
Thanks for your feedback, i use an AMD 5900X as my main gaming computer and i would somewhat agree that the Ryzen CPU's are a lot better for video encoding, however, the census out there still lists INtel as being the better option for video encoding.
thanks I tried to rip a classic Fist of the North star so the kid can watch it seeing we dont use dvd players in the house anymore lol its a garage thing now but I also got that new asus router for gamers and DAYMMMM my speeds went from like 56 mb on a good day to 500+ mb so asus is great for hooking their routers together as a range extender so I am running a line :)

that, i couldn tell you, i guess you would just have to try one and see, i would imagine they will be smaller than the original.

So when we Rio the dvd to our laptop, will the whole movie be off of the disc, or will it still be on there even when we copy the whole thing?

no, handbrake is just the tool to convert a dvd to digital format, an ipad should be able to just play the end result.

Worked good, but it didn't do widesrcreen. It did widesrcreen with VLC, but the auido was off with VLC. Any ideas?

Any tips if the rip doesn’t get the entire disc? Tried a few different profiles and this happens with some movies.

FYI, I'm using HB 1.3.0. I copied the dll libdvdcss-2.dll, moved it to the HB dir and everything is fine, so far. :)
Same here - I'm using HB 1.31, added the libdvdcss-2.dll and alls well n.b. I did not delete the -2 part of the dll

@@SuperPertinax Thank you for helping. Unfortunately, when it's clicked, the .exe just brings up a black box for about one fifth of one second which disappears. I tried using program compatability, but it just won't run. Many thanks though.
@@vemacrinnon9752 :-( thats strange, i have it running in windows 10 64bit, you could try using a nother free program called DVD Shrink

For me, handbrake did a crappy job. Main issue was audio was way out of sync with video. Also, pixelated image.
That was my experience, too. And any attempt to improve quality either failed outright or was met with prompts to "upgrade/register/purchase".
I think DVD Decrypter has to be used with this thing?

What you said about AMD at the end is not even close to true. AMD processors typically mirrors or exceeds Intel's capabilities.
Thanks for your feedback, i use an AMD 5900X as my main gaming computer and i would somewhat agree that the Ryzen CPU's are a lot better for video encoding, however, the census out there still lists INtel as being the better option for video encoding.

I wanted to have all my dvds of my favorite cartoons rip in a macbook pro so I won't have to search these DVDs from storage.
thanks I tried to rip a classic Fist of the North star so the kid can watch it seeing we dont use dvd players in the house anymore lol its a garage thing now but I also got that new asus router for gamers and DAYMMMM my speeds went from like 56 mb on a good day to 500+ mb so asus is great for hooking their routers together as a range extender so I am running a line :)
