watching this video and indeed all reviews of the latest Chinese EV's, it feels as if Tesla got to where it is and then totally lost interest in moving forward. Esp around their promised self driving, or even self parking, yet most brands outside of the states have self park now, without having to pay extra for.

I expect Tesla has several designs to replace 3 and Y. But it would be ignorant to replace the best selling car in the world with another so long as it was the best selling car or close to it. The CyberTruck is now the best selling electric pickup in the US and the best selling luxury vehicle over $100K in the US. On 10/10 Tesla will introduce the robo taxi car and possibly other cars. This seems to be moving forwards to me.

Ignorant take. The EU does want you to have nice things, hence why allowing state-subsidized EV's from China isn't in your best interest. Short term, you might save a couple bucks on a new EV. In the long term, China will do exactly what they did in solar: exterminate the European competition by dumping loads of cheap panels onto the market, then jacking prices once your country has no more manufacturers left. There's no competing against a manufacturer that can lead losses for years on end with the backing of the CCP.

Me and my wife are both Tesla MY owners. I recently went to the Melbourne EV show and compared the XPENG g6 and Zeeker cars. If you British people like luxury cars, definitely buy Zeeker which is one level above XPENG which is also felt and touched better than my MY.
Tesla tech is already outdated (apart from FSD which has not been released yet). It will be interesting to see how the EV industry goes in the next few years! I will buy probably a Zeeker car next.

I had a period of buying cheap Chinese smartphones. I'm general they were great value but typically missed done functionality, often NFC for example.
They ALL shared one thing though, pretty much lack of manufacturer support for software updates.
Some had no update function at all, some might get one or two updates if very new.
That's where I'd be asking questions, commitment for ongoing long term support.

It's a reasonable concern. Just having a nice body and shell isn't all that's involved with cars these days.

I doubt ONVO will survive as Elon famos quote it is not difficult to make a new EV but we have seen so many failures as companies one after another run out of capital as they aren't able to scale to lower costs as well as generate free cashflow. NIO burnt through 3B in the past few years and still not profitable. BYD is but per ev profits around 5000 yuan while tesla is around 60000 yuan. So China car market is so competitive everyone now moved on to hybrid to lower the sticker price by lowering the cost of batteries needed. ONVO entering the market at the worst time don't think they can sell enough to scale. How much do you think NIO pays for the batteries from CATL versus Tesla who is the biggest customer of CATL as BYD makes its own battery? This is why Tesla margin is so much higher.

This is a great idea to make EVs widespread..until unscrupulous selfish $%^ people start clandestinely opening the battery packs and start pinching a few batteries here and there so they can build their own battery pack and then swap the corrupted pack for another one (Insert Meme: This is why we can't have great things). You then begin to wonder how safe that battery is for the next family getting it swapped into their car...especially when it comes to horrific fires.
