Excellent! For some strange reason I never really listened to Led Zeppelin. I remember having played since I scratched my whole name correctly on the back of an acoustic guitar, I was so proud of it. My father, not so much... lol. I learned off of you tube a few yrs ago and must have played it hundreds of times in a row loving every time... My wife grew tired of it and so I stopped playing it for yrs. I think thats gonna change. Haa ha ha! Good for you Doc!
I was the same. been playing for about the same time and play loads of Zep songs throughout that time, i played the Rain Song in standard tuning but it always felt like a cheap imitation, until I stumbled on the correct tuning and a tutorial on you tube, To play it now in all it's glory is heaven, How Page could write a song of this beauty in such a weird tuning is beyond me, a musical masterpiece
Those are powerful words. However, I concur with your emotions. When I was a young teenager and heard it for the first time it touched my soul in a way I cannot describe. I listen to it often to go back in time to that moment. I can almost be in that exact time and place. There are other songs that can do this but not like this one. Brilliant.... I bought my first guitar two years ago at age 56. I've been watching how to videos trying to teach myself how to play. This is the song I'm trying to play. I bought a second guitar to leave in tune. My wife asked why not learn something easy to start with? I told her, if I learn only one song I want to learn this. Two years later I almost have it! 😂
I agree with you. But I expect your wife is slowly going mad, trapped inside on rainy days, listening to you play the same song over, and over, for two years.
Paul , don't give up keep playing. It took me a almost 2 weeks to learn the rain song . Learning songs like this will force you to push yourself. I'm sure you found the tuning to play this was weird 😆
Learning to play guitar is difficult, frustrating, sometimes it even hurts, but it's the most fascinating feeling when you can get to play something right, it's worth every day of practice (and they will be many)
Paul I did exactly the same, bought a second guitar to leave one in tune. I'm still struggling with the song but hopefully with enough practice I'll have a decent version in by fall.
For me, this is the entire band's masterpiece. Pagey's stunning alternate tuning work is perfectly accompanied by JPJ's bass lines and strings arrangement on the mellotron, Plant's lyrics and vocals, and even Bonzo's brush work all equally make this song unique and memorable. IMO, Ten Years Gone is truly Page's masterpiece.
As a veteran with "issues" this song/video is one I can watch that helps block everything out for 4 minutes and 48 seconds. It's one of my go to videos for some peace sometimes. Thank you. I appreciate you 👍

Page was multi textured guitarist with skills on almost all areas of the guitar.Rain song, Black Mountain Side and A few other Number BronYaur-a-Stomp show his taste for folk, but i always found Rain song quite a Jazz guitar influenced number with so many chords found in jazz ballads. I think a guitarist called Bert Jansch was Page's hero in terms of folk guitar

The crazier thing is that it’s not that crazy. I’ve lost my family and it’s to much to write here but they’re still with us for a while after death. I’m not a person that goes to church but there’s more to this life than we know.

I cannot understand why I have only found this video 9 years later!! That is sublime. One of my all-time favourite Led Zeppelin numbers, particularly because it displays just how expressive Jimmy Page’s acoustic writing and playing was. How I wish I was gifted enough to be able to play this in this way. Houses of the Holy contains some of my favourite numbers but also, the album cover was photographed at the Giant’s Causeway, my old playground as a child - I was brought up just a mile or so from there. One of my all-time favourite Led Zeppelin numbers, particularly because it displays just how expressive Jimmy Page’s acoustic writing and playing was. How I wish I was gifted enough to be able to play this in this way. Houses of the Holy contains some of my favourite numbers but also, the album cover was photographed at the Giant’s Causeway, my old playground as a child - I was brought up just a mile or so from there. Mr Barrett, sir, that was so beautiful. Thank you so very much for posting. 👍🎸☘️

Hi, and thanks ! It is a discontinued model, a Martin 000C-1E. It's a great guitar that was given to me, it has a K&K pick up, but I use an AKG in this video.
