    Sorry, I have no tablature available. The chords and music are readily available in decent "recorded-versions" books which should still be in print.
    Martin 000-17s; mahogany construction
    Oh, and the tuning: dgcgcd (this matches the 6 string used in the recording, not the 12 string tuning. I believe it also corresponds to the tuning on the 6-string neck of the double neck used in concert. If you give a hoot about this sort of information, see the wikipedia.org article on this song for more.)

    This song, not Stairway To Heaven, is Page's greatest composition.

    • @lllLinkinParklll
      @lllLinkinParklll 5 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      You wouldn't ever say that if Stairway wasn't mainstream.

    • @scottwaszak698
      @scottwaszak698 5 ปีที่แล้ว +143

      That's an obtuse statement. The creativity in The Rain Song surpasses even that of Stairway. It's in an unusual open tuning, and Page had to figure out all those parts accordingly. Stairway is in standard tuning thus easier to "put things together. The flow of The Rain Song from it's opening chords to the finger-picked outro is simply that of genius.

It was worth every penny. And for me, it was a lot of pennies indeed. This video is a total inspiration. Actually brought me to tears today. I still remember the day this album came out - Houses Of The Holy and I ran out to buy my favorite bands new album. I brought it home and put it on my Dads turn table and cranked it up to hear Song Remains The Same for the first time, I knew they had done it again and here I am 56 still loving them 41 years later although I have been listening to them about 45 years, I was in the 8th grade but know kids were different in those days. I had a deep appreciation for Led Zeppelin. If you weren't alive at the time when Zeppelin and so many other bands of that era were in their prime I don't know if you can truly appreciate it because it was much more than the music, it was a time and a era that only happened when it happened and I'm just thankful I was there. Not to talk down to anyone that wasn't but if you were there then you know what I'm talking about and yes even at 14 years old I was lucky enough to go on later to see Zeppelin twice. Then Page and plant, then just Plant and then The Firm which was awesome and I was in the front row. Concerts then were magical and stony as hell! again, if you were there you know what I mean. Great cover! You brought back a lot of memories for me and inspired me to play this song myself. It must feel good to know people are still watching and enjoying your video ten years later after you posted it. Thank you.

I thought I was pretty good on the guitar part. But, you're WAY ahead of me! You are the standard I hope to someday achieve. I would try to appreciate both of these guys for their great talent, and I’d even venture to say that the gentleman in the video would never think he’s better than Page and maybe even vice versa; I think they would respect each other’s talents. Geez, the more I listen to this rendition the more I realize how much of a masterpiece it is ~ I'm following you dude... lol. By that, I mean that I'm playing this the same way. I like Jun's version live version on the SG double-neck also... but all the little nuances and connecting notes in this version are awesome. Makes it so much more fun to play. I can just hear Robert singing .. which is more than I can say for most of the other versions on YT ~ the ability to silence the guitar and then project it.. this is what I've been talking about to a "certain" YT "compilation" guitarist who is NOT understanding this concept... regardless of what P.O.S he is playing on... good stuff... good shit.

      Second that, including "Three by Hackett"...I'll check out "YBR"...revisiting this beautiful piece for the umpteenth time after forwarding the link to a friend (who replied "Amazing..."). And I'll be back again and again, because this version is better than Zep's. (Dodging the lightning bolt).

    Matters not the facial expression... not in a TH-cam video, unless you wanna be a comedian. This man has managed to grab the essence of this piece, which, trust me, is rare. Most guys learn the tuning (if they're lucky) and then just go through the motions.. NOT "E" motions, just motions. This man is obviously engrossed in the song and I can't help but wonder if he might just be reliving some days from the past in his mind, when he was younger, wilder... and possibly at a Led Zeppelin concert. No complaints or criticisms here, and I too play this song.. much the same way. "Variations on a theme" he could have pulled this off any way he wanted to and you would have known as a musician that he understood Jimmy Page. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and this is of course, the internet, but this man, had he been thrown into a Led Zep contest with "Rain Song" as the point of focus.. would more likely have won. Good job buddy. I doubt this man even reads his comments. He knows how he plays. He doesn't even need feedback (no pun intended)

    I am so late to the party. Well, not really. Remembered I watched this video over and over again about 7 years ago. It was my reason to learn guitar when I was 25. So I knew about some chords but nothing else, just always really wanted to learn an instrument.. I fell in love with Led Zep and searched the web for some covers and found your channel. And this sounded SO good the first time I heard it. This song made me spend 800£ on a nice Ibanez (wanted to buy something that wasn´t easy to just put in a corner, I wanted a guitar that made me want to play). Six months later I could play through it, with little to no errors. I spent several hours a day practicing both this and other songs/techniques that I needed to play that exact song.
    I guess I am here to finally subscribe and say thank you. Thank you for giving me inspiration to practice every day like nothing else. Now I have a hobby I really enjoy and something that gives me peace of mind when I need it. You are amazing! All your renditions are top shelf. Thank you thank you thank you!

    Thank you. I learned alternating bass with a wonderful Mississippi Jon hurt mentor. I play this song for my 6 year old and i tell her to listen to the raking and alternating, which creates the beauty. Well done sir. I have never posted a comment before, but I never thought I was going to see your work wiith one of my all time favorite pieces of art. There has been so much attempted tragedy on this song, from children to models. I thank the rain that you found it, and that you knew...something special was to be never forgotten,

    A master. Maybe one has to be a guitarist to appreciate all that Tony has added in his interpretation. The first go through is straight from Jimmy but then he adds his own unique touches, bass lines, melody lines. As regards the comments about this being a greater piece than Stairway. There is no competition. Literally. Its not a competition. They are both amazing. Right now I am particularly in love with Rain song and have, in a way, just discovered it. It is certainly the most tender of all Zep songs. I have always loved Babe I'm I'm gonna leave you, especially Page's very subtle acoustic playing. The first Zep song I learned to play.
