The sign that he is pulling this off brilliantly is that it is almost impossible to listen to this without mentally inserting and almost hearing Clare Torrey's voice signing along.
"And I am not frightened of dying. Anytime will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it - you've got to go some time." - Gerry O'Driscoll, janitor Abbey Road Studios
I was watching this thinking yeah it was pretty good but theres no way he'll do the vocal part fingerstyle. And then he did. Possibly the most amazing acoustic arrangement I've ever seen.
Beautiful Guido ... My dad passed 4 years ago this month ... a big Pink Floyd fan. After hearing the news of his death, (I was at work at the time) I left to be home with my family and the first song that I heard on the commute home was this ... My playlist was on random, 1000s of songs, and this was the first song ... was convinced that was his way of telling me "all is cool son, all is cool :)"
Beautiful to know that even on the other side of existence your pops is telling you everything will be alright :) Life goes on. I'm sorry for your loss.
Losing your dad must have been so painful and probably still ambushes you from time to time. I liked your PF story. My 19 year old son died in an accident 6 months ago. PF was his favourite band, too. We played The Great Gig in the Sky at his funeral, amongst other PF songs, including Eclipse and Wish You Were Here...they felt very appropriate.
I would never have thought that this (one of my all time favorite Pink Floyd songs) could be captured on a single acoustic guitar. So very well done. To say you have a gift is a total understatement.
I've been learning the melody line on guitar and trying to be fluent with it. What you do sir, goes beyond anything I could imagine doing for this song on guitar. Bravo, thank you, and I'll be listening to this for at least 100 times more.
"And I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, I don't mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime."
Gilmour would be just as impressed if not more! I'm blown away, this is an awesome interpretation, you made it your own, and yet it still hit every note where it needed fk hit.. Great work dude!
Assolutamente unico e fantastico. Suonata da Dio, da un senso di grande spazialità musicale e forte emozionalita. Grande Guido Mancino!!! Seguo da tempo il sito, i pezzi sono suonati con grande maestria, sono uno più bello dell'altro. Grande talento italiano
And when Clare got done laying that amaz, ing, emotionally reverberant track she said ,"sorry," and Rick was already in love with it. Worth it to warch The Making Of The Dark Side...
I'm a huge, huge PF fan, but never really cared for this tune much. Last fall I saw Brit Floyd (internationally recognized and touring PF tribute band - totally worth seeing) and they played this. The woman that did the vocalization almost brought me to tears. In fact, I'm almost tearing up thinking about it as I write this. It was touching, mesmerizing, moving - and a lot of other adjectives I just don't have the words for... It made the song finally "make sense" to me. She got an incredible standing ovation immediately afterward - to include me. My arms were tired from clapping so hard. It was absolutely, positively outstanding. Needless to say, I'm a fan of this tune, now.
This dude is like the calculus of guitar. Its an approximation that has become an equality. Every motif of the song preform was somehow captured here from the piano, to the bass, singing, electric guitar all in one piece. Very impressive work.
Ciao Guido, dire che sei bravissimo non ha senso. IO sono uno strappacorde e forse non posso dare un giudizio. Ma tu ,come pochissimi sanno fare, sei nel tuo strumento e nel suono che esce. Senza parole.
And I thought playing, “Blackbird”, by the Beatles, was a great accomplishment for me, seems I still have much learn. Bravo, and this sounded so beautiful!
I've listened to it dozens of times. Each time I turn it on for one minute and I can't stop. It's a thrill! Thanks! Sorry for my English. With love from Russia
I have been playing this piece on the piano for over 40 years and have never found a guitarist who had a clue what to do with it--and then I find this. What a wonderful arrangement, Guido. You've not only nailed the accompaniment (including bass) but got the vocal highlights as well. The many hours you have put into this shows as you play it with such composure. Thank you for sharing! Enjoy Earth!
Davvero pauroso. Una grandissima tecnica unita a una espressività rarissima. Complimenti di cuore da uno strimpellatore che credeva di essere un passabile chitarrista

I remember hearing this song live for the first time like it was yesterday. Unfortunately it was a PF tribute band, because Pink Floyd are a bit before my time (born in '97). Iremember it so vividly, because it's the first time I cried like a mad man during a concert. I never knew that music could pull that out of me, never have i felt that emotion, it wasn't sadness, it wasn't exactly happiness, it was a thing of its own, just raw emotion i guess. And this version was close to what I felt that day. So to be able to play it on the guitar would be a literal dream come true, and even though i am noooooooowhere near this level of playing, i'll buy your tab and break my fucking fingers untill i can play this song perfectly.
Guido, congratulations for creating your own style and sound. This is something new. And the songs, nobody would even try to do it. You have nailed the harmony, the melody and the general feel- it's brilliant. It is so good that I want to by for start, The Great Gig. It gives me goosebumps, its a divine tune. Regards Jack
😲😲 wow..... I've been a floyd fan for 45 years and have never heard or even thought it possible to play this on a guitar, almost as moving as the original song..... thank you so much for sharing this ❤
When I clicked on this I thought you would just do the introduction (i.e. the bit before Clare Torry)...but then you kept going! Outstanding interpretation and playing, thank you for sharing.
This is one of my alltime favorite albums and your renditions are really incredible. You think you might be able to give "Any color you like" a go? Seems you almost effortlessly play guitar parts along with other instrument parts at the same time really making it special as well as your personal touch thrown in while remaining true to the original. I play guitar but what you do far exceeds my skill level by light years. It's a pleasure listening.
I'm in awe every time I listen to this interpretation of this Pink Floyd classic. Guido's patience, ear, and work ethic make his fingerstyle works 'must-listens' the moment they appear. I have great respect for this artist! I look forward to each new offering.
I can’t say I ever heard anyone play this tune on guitar like this. Simply superb.
I got his tabs for Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Once you try to learn it you realise how damn good this guy is. Here he has done it again. Bravo
@@carlgorton4642 that is a great info, where can i find the tabs?
That's how it's always played
Agreed.
For sure!!!

Genius
You forgot “ I never said I was frightened of dying”
Absolutely iconic.
A janitor spoke those?? What's the story? Always thought that was Rick Wright
your worst nightmare I think all the interviews on the album are of nobodies. Which makes it very special imo.
I can't imagine waking up one morning and think I'm gonna arrange Great Gig in the Sky fingerstyle. Bravo Sir!
And then to nail it perfectly.
Only a guitar player would appreciate how well this guy played. Well played, sir.
I've never heard a fingerstyle version of this song before and i love that one, wonderful performance.
Un grande Maestro. Bravo, bravo, bravo.
I know this tune absolutely by heart, every detail of it. This cover picked up every nuances and is executede by the hands of a master !
I was thinking the same... every single nuance and detail and all the dynamics... pfff amazing

sunlight flashing through cumulo-nimbus!
Well most any Floyd fan would be happy to share a little secret with you 🌈
99/100 famous guitar players could not play this. Awesome.
yet - if you buy the sheet music and really work at it for a long time you'll get close - ok maybe not as good as guido though
Я не представлял что ЭТО можно сделать на одной гитаре. Берёт за душу. 😢

This man's skill pegged the scale so hard he broke it...sounds absolutely beautiful
What have I just watched !!!! How is that possible. Bravo maestro, fuori dal mondo.❤
I’m gonna find the 10 people who disliked this video and slap them with a big fish. Outstanding playing!
👍👍👍
Slap them with a pig or dog instead
Now it's 28 but slapping isn't worth the effort.
I'm rather going to try and master two of those chords one after the other instead.
How about kicking them so hard they will have a front row seat to the great gig in the sky 🤜😎🤛

What a song and what a rendition! That was awesome!
Amen to that

What a beautiful execution of this piece. 👏🏼

I hope someone has shown David Gilmour your channel. AMAZING!!!
Are you seeing that! Just one acoustic guitar, dude is a god ❤️🐿️

I cant believe this cover, the way you make one guitar sound like the whole song. Bravo my friend
Beautifully played. Just goes to highlight the immense genius and musicality of David Gilmore. Timeless art.
It was composed and performed by Richard Wright
And this arrangement, combining all the parts for a single guitar, is by this guitarist, not by Dave Gilmour.
Brilliant.
