Nice build man! I will say, I appreciate seeing the completely disorganized wood pile in your garage. Mine looks very similar lol. Keep on keepin on! I should add though, with a commission project, think about going the extra mile and finishing the stain, even if you won't see it.

I'm getting something very similar. I also found on teemu a set of LED small pot lights that I'm installing pointing upwards rather than down. It's in a dark corner of our apartment and it should give some nice ambient lighting to the space

As a lifelong woodworker all I can say is the underside of this very simple build was a complete mess, especially for a purchase project. Running paint, discoloration, knots, all showing. The top color was way too light as well. Every imperfection was right there, not distressed but imperfections. You CAN get a patina/weathered look without making the paint look translucent. Doin that only makes the piece look like a garage project. Getting that look takes time, and if someone is paying for it, you owe it to them to give the project the time and attention to detail it deserves. Also, routing that sill ledge out of the leg severely limited the future use of this shelf. Basically, you better hope they never move their furniture around OR move from that house as this "divit" will look like the customer built it on a Saturday night after a few drinks. When building a piece of furniture or anything for that fact, YOU have to think ahead, years ahead. That is what they are paying us for, durability, BEAUTY, utility, and LONGEVITY. BTW, what you did with that leg and sill was for a "built-in", not a movable piece of furniture. Dude I am NOT trying to kill you here, just make you aware of what will make you a better woodworker doing as you say "commissioned" projects. Good luck.

I agree 100% with what you said. Nothing wrong with constructive criticism. I wouldn't have bought this if it was in a store.

I think a good idea for cutting the taper on the legs may have been to stack both pieces of wood and cut both at the same time. Properly aligned, this would make them identical.

Sweet job man!!!! Twisting boards suck. The best thing I found for twisted boards is a hand plane and winding sticks. The sticks show the high spots so you can plane them out

Landon is really tall! First time I’ve actually seen more than just his face while playing COD. 😂. Definitely going to put this idea in my possibility drawer for the next house.

I like the way how the finishing came out, satin finish is always safe to go. BUT, how come you didn't cut out the bottom part to perfectly fit against the wall and the wall base molding? That would make it perfect...

Is there a reason you didn't finish all the edges? Or at least the visible ones?

Ah. A woodworking Chad. A rare and mystical animal of the woodworking forest.
Also an amateur to amateur, testing the stain was a good idea. I don't know if you did, but just in case. I know you aren't a professional and its not a job but it was a good idea to take measurement of the window sill and moulding (stuff on the bottom of the wall). If you measure these as well then you can do everything in your shop and not have to do them during delivery.
