Bought it on release, it's sitting in my backlog. I did see the devs have so far been VERY active with patches so i'm hopeful that by the time i get around to playing it, it will be in a better spot. I'm still a huge fan of the art style and i like to experiment with different spells so in that sense i think the game will entertain me sufficiently. That's the thing with waiting for a while, you play games when they get better most of the time. I don't care to be around at release, i can wait :)
Ah, pity. As soon as I saw the artstyle and the little insight to the biomes at the beginning of the video, my first thought was that it looks beautiful and diverse. I'm hoping the devs will keep updating the game and it will live up to it's potential because I like what I've seen from it so far and I'd love to play it.
I always appreciate your reviews, great work 👍. Have you replayed Rin after the patches? I really, really like the look of it but the map issues put me off. It is hard to find recent and or updated reviews.
Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately I haven't gone back to it. Based on what I've seen, the latest update did try and make the map a bit more bearable, but I don't think that some of the main problems, like large chunks of the map being revealed without actually having been explored, have been addressed (I'm basing this information on their latest Steam patch notes from the 2nd of February).
Just beat this today after 12 hours with 100% completion. I'm gonna be honest i kinda liked it! I know combat was basic, enemy variety very low, the map hard to parse and bosses underwhelming. But the map was so open that i never felt restricted and getting to explore it at my own pace was tons of fun. I would have liked the map to reveal more gradually and the addition of markers but i have a VERY good memory so i only missed 2 collectibles by the end before i checked out Demajen's map. Why i enjoyed exploring so much i think is just because the movement, while basic, was smooth and fast. The soundtrack was also super relaxing despite only a few tracks. They're dynamic enough without attracting too much attention so i didn't get tired of it despite the several hours i heard each biome's soundtrack. Visually the game is also gorgeous despite the repitition. I especially liked the blue nebulae level and purple forests (reminded me of ori's sunken glades my fav level visually in Ori😊)I think the colours used were very pretty and i really like rins' character design and run animation. There were some really cool spells including a black hole that executes low health enemies among several others like ice aura's and light beams! Admittedly i mostly used the ranged spell since it was OP with the triple shot + lightning &explosives. I also barely had any bugs in my playtime and no crashes. There was one area that lagged a bit but otherwise my performance was smooth. For the 14 bucks i picked it up on it was very worth it imo! I don't really do scores but for me the 5,5 you gave it is a bit too harsh. Granted i played a patched up version but I'd rather give it a 7/10 solid and relaxing game. With better combat and bosses, as well as map QoL it could be a 7,5 or 8 even
Glad you enjoyed it! It definitely received a few updates after my playthrough, so it is most likely a better experience now. QoL was definitely where it lacked the most. I'm hoping to see a sequel in which the developers will take all lessons learned from the first one to produce a truly awesome experience!
@@soulsborneseeker their next game looks like a top down roguelike. It's called emerald caravan. Not something for me unfortunately. I also don't know how a sequal would be possible given the rather definitive ending :P Still I'm left satisfied so that's the most important thing
Oh, it's coming at some point! I'll definitely be reviewing it sometime in the near future! Also Aeterna Noctis, which has been recommended to me a lot!
Anyone planning of playing RIN? If you've already played it, what did you think of the game?
I really disliked the map as well, instantly turned me off
@@samthefireball Yeah, biggest issue of the game for me :(

That is real shame, seems the game has potential. As it is now I will hold off. Thank you for your inside.

No console release yet, I'm afraid!
To be honest, I couldn’t get past the first room. Checked so many pet peeves for me
I had very high hopes for it, but things didn't turn out so well :(
Do Grime!!!

Haven't played it yet, its low on my wishlist.
It'll probably be much better after a few patches, so it doesn't hurt to play it later rather than now.
