Diggs did a very good job in giving Lafayette this ‘Comedic Relief’ personality(as I would like to call it) but still retained the aura of ‘A War General Who Will Make The Red Coats Redder With Bloodstains’. He also gave both Lafayette and Jefferson different ‘Colors’ that if you're new to the show, you'll definitely think they have different actors.
So yeah. TLDR: Daveed Diggs is an amazing actor and deserves more award and recognition.
