going by logic sonic obviously can somewhat control his speed thus going over the speed of sound, only when needed to traverse large flat plains (such as bodies of water, etc) also basically the only reason why you never see his full potential at all (apart from the cartoons and whatnot)

People's eardrums would pop by the sound, making them go death. Cars and building would be destroyed! He only goes fast when it comes to Eggman. He doesn't go his full speed because he doesn't want to hurt the people he loves nor his friends. So he's careful about his speed.

I agree to a point, but i have to admit that to an extent the Wii/PS2 handled the Boost a bit better. While continuous boosting is more fun its also more linear, you press a button and your instantly at top speed and holding it keeps it going. The way the boost is done here means you can easily use up all your boost if you arent careful enough, so keeping the speed going is harder than just holding a button. This isnt even going into how the boost doesnt put you at your full speed, if your smart you can reach even higher speeds and overall the pay off is just so much more satisfying than i think honestly any other boost game has given us. In terms of level design id be kidding myself if i said the visuals werent ugly, they dont hold a torch to the superior PS3 versions, but at the same time i think they might work slightly better for a 3D high speed platformer. With the bland backgrounds and layouts you dont have much incentive to explore or back track, instead you can concentrate on reaching those high speeds. I still think it would be nicer to have levels which look pretty but this way it makes the linear progress and lack of exploration bearable. I wont say that the Wii/PS2 versions are superior in any kind of way, they are objectively inferior if im completely honest. However i think there are maybe some elements that should be rexplored in future boost games, and it did do some things i kind of prefer. I dont think the way it had chunks of boost was neccesarily that fluid, but some varient of it would definitely work in other games. If it were explored a little more i think it could set a new fun standard for the boost which makes speed a reward again.

That's pretty fast. Not nearly as fast as when you boost in the X360/PS3 version, but its fast. The only thing bad about the Wii is that you have to listen to the same yell whenever you boost. And the boost only lasts like 2 seconds so it's endless.

@DarkyTheCat16 I have ps2, wii and 360 version. Ps2 and wii are basically the same except the wii has slightly better graphics. I still find it sad that wii almost has the same graphics as a 10 year old ps2 :P I really think that you should try the 360/ps3 version because it is basically a new game because of the controls and levels yet sticks to the basics. Not to mention that certain cut scenes and levels are removed from ps2 and even more from the wii version. Try it!

You know what I like how about Sonic Unleashed, Colors and Generation... Sonic's Sonic Boost aura. Unlike the Sonic Spin Dash which he can, this Sonic Boost gives Sonic more control and much more power to not get hit. I hope the next Sonic Game gives Sonic even more speed to actually rip through time and space without the need of Chaos Control. Who knows... I doubt it.
Actually Sonic is mainly about platforming and great level design. You'd get those thrilling bursts of speed more like rewards (unless you were speedrunning and even then you weren't fast the whole time). You go back and play Sonic 1's Marble Zone and you'll see what I mean.
honestly my best time was a little over 2:40 (without infinite boost) you can keep your boost up by ramming opponents, you missed a shortcut as well, so that probably is what hurt your time

Why is it that 2d sections feel so much slower in like every "3d" sonic game?
It's not forever, you need to get rings to fill it. On the PS2/ Wii version you either need to get rings, do tricks or kill enemies to fill it.
