I am a cis, straight girl with a rather deep voice, (I can only sing tenor, alto is too high for me) and I do musical theater. I will most likely have to play guy parts for the rest of my career because they don’t make many roles for female tenors. I am fine with that, even if I’d rather play a girl tenor, I’m just glad I get to sing. The amount of people that have assumed I’m trans (trans girl) because of my voice is crazy. I have also had people ask if I’m a trans guy because I’m okay with playing guy parts. It’s acting. I’m comfortable in my gender and sexuality so chill.
As a trans girl who also does musical theater but is very self-conscious about my voice, hearing that you are a cis girl who sings tenor genuinely makes me feel better, so thank you
@@tinycorvid Everyone forgets that gender-policing affects *_EVERYONE_* who doesn't conform or fit to the genital-based-required-appearance. And that includes cis women, both straight and lesbian.
It’s actually a lot more common than people make it out to be. I’ve never really understood why people are so strict about gendered singing roles. Our choir coach has been very nice about it and has made an effort to refer to us all as our voice types rather than gender.
I recently went to the symphony to see Mozart’s requiem, and both I and my brother noticed that there were a few men (or male-presenting people at least) singing in the alto section with the women. I know that in opera and musical theatre it’s a lot more limiting due to individual roles, but in choral music it is very normal to see women tenors and men as altos. I myself sang alto for a while in high school after puberty (I’m a cis guy). My voice has deepened a bit now that I’m in my 20s but for the longest time I sang parts that were written for female singers
I successfully played the part of a cis-man for 55 years, and got very good at it. It is a credit to my acting skills that everyone believed the performance. It took Covid and a near death experience for me to accept that I am a transgender woman. I have since been able to turn things round, such that I am now out and proud, living my live as my true self and no longer having to act a part. Here in SW England the NHS waiting list is 7+ years just for an initial appointment. I have gone private, as I could not wait that long and am now nearly 4 months on oestrogen.
I am a straight cis woman & fellow Gen Xer. Sending you a huge hug of support from the US. It's never too late to become your authentic self, I am very happy & proud for you.
I've recently, been getting transphobic hate comments on Facebook, and I just tell them that they wouldn't have commented if my transition wasn't going well. I think that actually shut them up.
The name my parents gave me was David. All my life I've been annoyed at how common it is. Every time someone calls it out, there's a decent chance they're actually talking to someone else. So of course when I came out as genderfluid and picked a girl name for myself, I went with the also super common Sarah. Yes this has already caused problems. No I'm not changing it.
One of the worst things I've noticed that trans folk have to endure is cis gets assuming the name you chose is either a feminym or mascinym of your original name... For example, if you call yourself Brad, they assume your original name was Brandy, Michelles are presumed to have been originally named Michael etc. Thus demonstrating how limited their intelligence is
At this moment I am a man. But when I bought a skirt less than a month ago my self image just shattered. I've always felt like I wasn't manly enough. All my friends are women and some people online even think I am a woman when I talk to people. I'm suddenly noticing so many obvious pointers that I might not be the man I thought I was or better yet might not be a man at all. I don't want to rush into things, it's still very early. For now I am just buying more womens clothing and seeing how it feels. Asked a friend if she wants to go with me outside in an outfit for the first time. Just doing some experimentation. But it's one crazy ride I have ended up on.
The littlest of cracks are starting to show huh? In all seriousness though, dont forget to *have fun.* It can be a lot of self image issues, but if you remember to have fun it will be a lot easier.
Fun fact I actually learned due to easter falling on trans day of visibility, the day it falls on is based off the moon. Also, wait until they hear my birthday falls on labor day and I'm trans. They're going to say I took labor day from them too.
👻 since having breast cancer I'm now flat, my hair is very short after chemo and I'm Agender and feel most comfortable in jeans and t-shirts with no make-up. Definitely more wary of TERFs in bathrooms now! I've seen quite a few cis women worried after mastectomies about using changing rooms and toilets. The TERFs have really helped make the world a worse place.
People can tell you are a woman even if you are flat and bald. There are tons of sex differences that anyone can perceived. I also find it extremely hilarious that you all pretend that you are more scared of a woman asking "excuse me, are you sure you should be here?" than a hulk in dress, lol.
If there's any around you, try taking a self defense course (some are free). There's many cases of transphobes harassing and hurting people in bathrooms simply because they think someone is trans.
And it's crazy because she wrote in multiple magic systems and even characters that are so trans and non-binary positive that she would turn out to be such a horrid person. Tonks being a metamorphmagus had the ability to change all of her characteristics completely at will and her greatest fear was losing the ability to do so. I can't think of anything more gender fluid.
Where I live there is a little old lady who is known as "the bathroom TERF". She hangs out making people uncomfortable and asking personal questions about what people have in their underwear. She is unhinged and will try to block your way if you don't pass her vibe check. She hates it when asked if she's lost and where her carers are. Yes she is always reported, no, not much is done about her.
That sounds like the modern version of trolls under the bridge. She is like an annoying bathroom ghoul. Like she is positively on her way to become some urban legend creature. She is so shitty that it turns back into being funny because it’s so outrageous. Like maybe you could market her as some kind of tourist attraction. Like „real life get out of my swamp oger lady“ or something.
Thinking that people doing anything on your holy day is enemy action, is exactly like thinking that other people speak languages you don't know just so they can talk about you.
I was recently in a public restroom at a large transit hub in center city Philly. When I went in, there was a person there washing their hands whose gender identity I could not easily assume. Older person (probably 60+), full gray beard, cute AF minidress, and stilettos I would not personally dare to walk in. My gut reaction was... I'm so glad no one is harassing this person! My secondary reaction was... dang those are cute shoes!
I like how nothing in this comment gives us readers enough context to reliably assume/infer _your_ gender or what gender of bathroom this happened in, either :) It will forever be a mystery!
@@ArcherdaNerdit’s not always a testosterone deficiency, and can simply have to do with genetics. Number of active hair follicles depends as much on your genes as your sex characteristics. Thats why you sometimes get extremely hairy women and completely hairless men
My son definitely did not have a cis phase! He was clearly upset about his birth gender from the moment he could communicate it. He began his transition at 14, and is now 26, so that is cool. Almost the same amount of time transitioned as not. Love that!
In before some a-hole calls you a perv or PDFfile for allowing your kid to transition so young In all seriousness though, awesome for him! I’m 22 now and still haven’t transitioned ;(
I wish my daughter had figured it out that soon. She says she didn't know being trans was a thing so didn't understand why she felt so weird and out of place in her body. So her transition has been a long and arduous process through her 20s and because we can't afford all the surgeries and laser treatments, she still doesn't pass and it seems to be a problem for her sometimes, but we try to support her as best we can.

Also, re. HRT-the single most surprising thing in my transition so far: Access to HRT was amazingly easy. It's awful in many circumstances so I don't want to gloat, but it was literally about two weeks from "I want to start HRT" to picking up the prescriptions. This was, honestly, something that convinced me that transition really is viable for me-I was afraid it was going to be a big pain in the ass, then I'd lose my nerve, etc., etc., and instead it was one of the easiest health care interactions I've had.
Another unexpected fact: I'm living in New Mexico, I'm getting HRT from a place in Texas. I occasionally hear people talk about moving to New Mexico because we're a trans-friendly state. Here's the thing. You aren't going to have trouble accessing gender-affirming care in NM because of bigoted laws. You're going to have trouble accessing gender-affirming care in NM because we're basically our own little third-world country and you will have trouble accessing *any* competent health care in the state.
Chuck Tingle just wrote a book, Bury Your Gays, about the Hollywood trope to kill off gay characters or make them tragic. It's fiction in the gay horror genre, but it's a pretty good read.
It's not just horror. My mother is a huge fan of "Call The Midwife" on PBS. They had a lesbian couple on the show, and the day they were supposed to move in together one was hit by a car on her bicycle. Why do queer characters have to be either the comic relief or suffer a tragedy in so many movies and television shows?
Over 99% of people don't have gender dysphoria so almost 100% of people would regret having transgender surgery what does that say about transgender surgery one less than one person of people would want to have anything to do with it

What is interesting, my cis phase started late, like at the end of my kindergarden. Before , I had seen myself as a femboy. And I'm serious. 4:29 Once at my old job a temp worker accidentally bumped me slightly as we passed each other and he immediately said "Sorry bro- er, ma'am..." and after a second quietly shuffled away. I didn't know how to process that for the rest of the day 😆😅 Poor guy made it more awkward for himself. My friends and I refer to it as the "bro-ma'am" incident (I'm transmasc nonbinary, bro is 1000 times better than ma'am, I was pretty early on T at that point) Another time at a convention I headed towards the women's restroom since that's what I was used to and more comfortable with and the janitor passing by said "wrong one." I hadn't quite registered what she said and turned around, and she immediately apologized and got a little awkward before quickly turning and walking away. That interaction still haunts me to this day 👻
I'm a truck driver and I see sooooo many transport company trucks at facilities and fueling stations. There is one, I have seen it here in California twice, that is called Pride Trans. There is also a company that sells trucks that is called Pride. There is a lot full of them up near Oroville in northern California. When you drive past their lot you see many MANY trucks lined up in all different colors so it looks like a pride flag, and every truck says PRIDE in big black letters. I really don't think it's on purpose. It just makes me happy. Additional shout out to Tribe Transportation. A trucking company owned and operated by Native American women. I had a moment at work where I stepped out of the stall in the woman's bathroom and went to wash my hands, and there was another woman in the bathroom washing her hands. I'm a lesbian (cis) and several of my more butch lesbian friends have been insulted and assaulted in women's bathrooms for being trans (which they aren't). I literally can't even... these turf idiots don't even understand what they're against.
The kind that does not realize that transphobia is never limited to transpeople, and thinks/feels that cis-women should remain a single group of people to strive for women's rights, along with not getting that transphobia does not make you in favor of women's rights.
I, as a cis woman, would rather use the men's bathroom than share a bathroom with jkr. I wouldn't actually do it of course, because then she might assume that I'm a trans woman who got intimidated out of the women's bathroom by her presence and I wouldn't want to give her that satisfaction. But I'd be a lot more comfortable in the men's bathroom than in the women's bathroom with her.
Luckily she's a billionaire. Mostly bad but it means she wouldn't be caught dead in the sorts of public bathrooms most humans find themselves in. Silver lining. Lol

My first name is still the one my parents gave me because they gave me a boy's name from the start. My mom has sworn my whole life that my brother and I "told her" our names when she was pregnant. After I came out as a trans man, she was all, "See? You did tell me your name!"
People said I should use the name my parents gave me (a very gender neutral name) as a second name to honor that name. But around the time I changed it a transwoman with the same first name as I choose (my new name comes from my parents should they have gotten girls as identical twins) was very popular and well-known. Because people do the thing where they already think you know every other transperson "just because you are trans", people were even more inclined to think I knew this transwoman because "OMG YOU HAVE THE SAME NAME!!!" With the second first name she has, my initials would've been the exact same as hers. I decided that I didn't want to hear that question even more than I already did, so kept the name my parents would have given me should they have gotten identical twin girls. (I also was afraid to forget the second name when filling in a form one time, because I always had one name, so yea).
6:45 That Pedro image is from the movie "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent!" An odd action comedy where Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself, and Pedro plays a super rich mega-fan. I really liked it, for what it's worth lol
I went to a gender neutral bathroom with a trans person once and you'll never believe what happened. They went to the bathroom and left. Then some lady gave them the stink eye and started whisper complaining about gender neutral bathrooms being dangerous for children despite us literally being at a brewery. It made me feel very unsafe as someone gender nonconforming. 👻 She didn't say anything to me but I thinks thats just because I have a fem face and my hair was over grown at the time. I'm a typical cis woman and the gender policing would make me feel uncomfortable and angry. If they're so obsessed with someone's genitals, what else are they gonna police? Easy little tip to fit in with cis guys: Start talking about the Holy Roman Empire. Is it Holy? Is it Roman? Is it an Empire? Many hours of long debate can be had on this subject alone! Alternatively, favourite cannon is a good subject. Of which of course the only reasonable options are muzzleloading smoothbore cannons from preferably the Napoleonic era. Maps or flags are always very fun to look at and discuss. Not feeling very geographic/historical right now? What is your favourite animal? And how would they help you fight three bears, a two lions, a human hunter and a thousand rats? Does a Dragon count as a favourite animal even if you've never seen one? How would you design a Dragon if you had the means? What's your favourite fantasy creature? And why is it a Dragon? Dragon. Dragon Dragon Dragon Dragon. Dragon. Dragon Dragon. Your welcome! Hope this helps and have a nice day!

Well, I mean, being the product of a virgin birth means parthenogenesis. Which would mean Jesus didn't have a Y chromosome. Which means he was genetically female. Which means....he was a trans man. XD
That's...a really good point. Why have I never thought of that before? Logically, Jesus would have had to have been trans or intersex (XX male syndrome). Edit: Another possibility is that Mary was intersex-- with XX/XY chimerism or mosaicism.

👻... I got interested in film and tv censorship and found that from the early days Hollywood films were criticised heavily, and there was a Hays Code introduced that from 1934 to 1968 restricted a wide range of subjects that the public (well, some of them, the worst kind of "morally upright' people) might object to. It's along list but it includes 'sexual deviants' or what we now call Queer or LGBTQ+. Films could have them but they couldn't be positive or happy or just normal. They had to be villains or bad in some way. This isn't enforced now, but the pressure is still there to make "acceptable" content that won't offend the more conservative viewers.

You weren't stupid, you were just living in a very cisnormative society. Maybe you didn't even know you could be trans, or maybe you were taught that being trans would be too horrible to contemplate. That wasn't your fault, but overcoming it and learning to know and love your true self is your achievement. May your transition journey be safe and joyful.
I can beat you. I was 34 when I realized I'm non-binary XD And then all the little signs came to the surface, from back when I was 4! years old. But that doesn't make us stupid. We simply took longer because no one in our surrounding talked about transgender. We didn't knew there was an "option" to be who we truly are, so we tried to fit in as best as we could. It makes the world around us stupid, not us.

congrats!!!! i had top surgery im march. unsolicited advice coming from me but these are important: - clean your living space before surgery, properly dust, vacuum, organise everything, after surgery it's hard to do daily tasks and you'll want your space to be clean and neat. have all the items you need daily in easy places. - make sure your skin is good and moist, all of your skin but esp the chest area. also keeping a good face skincare routine before surgery is important, you might get hormonal acne post op. your t levels will be higher for a while post op, bc a lot of estrogen receptors are removed. so you also might grow a slight moustache, i had one for like 2 months post op. - post op you'll want to wear zip ups, something easy to put on. putting on heavy pants is uncomfortable for the first 2 weeks post op, so i dont reccommend heavy pants like jeans. - make sure you have foods that are healthy and that you like. i was so nauseous right after surgery and for the next day. i get nauseous easily so i had a really hard time when trying to eat food i don't like for 2-3 weeks post op. food i love was hard too for the first week bc of how easily i get nauseous. - before surgery practice doing things with your feet. moving chairs, ect. i could not move my chair with my hands because it's too heavy for post op activities. - make sure you block negativity out of your life because dealing with negative people during the post op hormone rollercoaster is extra horrible. i reccommend positive trans memes videos and some small crafts for post op activities. - track your recovery. take pictures of swelling and the scars. if you do nipple grafts, they will look like pepperonis for like 15-30 days post op. my scabs fell of on day 18. don't worry about your pepperonis, it's normal that they look crusty. however remember not to scratch or rub the scabs. it's important not to do that. there's a lot more that i would write here but it's already a longg comment hehehe. these are important things that i wish i had been told about more pre op. if you want more info, do ask.
21:22 I’m a trans writer, and I have a trans character in my story. He’s very evil, like SUPER evil. I didn’t make the fact that he’s trans a big part of the story though, because it’s not why his evil, and it’s not why his life is just this horrible mess. I think that if you make trans characters that are morally bad, it shouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that they’re trans.
Seems to me that becoming aware of being in the same bathroom as a TERF would hold similar terror to me as twigging to the fact that there is an untethered toddler about, and they're about one picosecond away from poking their tiny head under the bathroom door. Same activity for wildly different reasons. Edited to add 👻
I bet you'll be just fine with a hulk in a dress sharing a bathroom with you. Yeah, right, lmao. You are all big talk but the soon something like that happens to you you will feel extremely unsafe and quickly leave. "TERFs" like JK Rowling are actually trying to protect you but you are all too brainwashed to see it. I promise you, though,in the moment of truth you suddenly find that you know exactly who is a man and who is a woman, what a man is and what a woman is.

The incorrect gendering as a worker is exactly why, when I worked in the customer service industry, I never said phrases like ‘ma’am or sir’ nope I am that total awkward ass who couldn’t bear to make someone feel the slightest bit of awkward so instead I had a standard greeting for everyone ’hi how are you today?’ Standard, small talk question - I’m autistic so small talk is my kryptonite and I need the exact same script about the exact same topic/s to even engage with random strangers so I would NOT be willing to mess up my scripted conversations with misgendering someone and having to navigate that awkwardness for an entire transaction - no thankyou 😅 I’m glad that my absolute lack of any social skills may have inadvertently meant I didn’t misgender someone while working.
My oldest daughter (21) is Cis, my middle daughter (16) introduced herself to me almost 3 years ago, both of their friend groups have gone through phases where they routinely asked each other “did you just assume my gender.” I’m always so glad when they grow out of it. I hope that the youngest skips it. Though I’m sure that whatever they come up with will be equally annoying.
Bahaha I too had a cisgender phase. I tried so hard to duve into being the gender assigned that at times I forgot my dysphoria. Whole hours would go by forgetting that I had a gender at all!
I’m a trans female and I’m happy seeing a trans male viewing things on this 🩷 I can see and feel a male present here and I’m an alpha female. Plus. I do not like anyone invading my space in my bathroom. I prefer being alone in my own space. But that’s me. In Australia we have neutral toilet and sometimes I go into the disable toilet because I get my piece of space. But that’s me 😊
I am a cis, straight girl with a rather deep voice, (I can only sing tenor, alto is too high for me) and I do musical theater.

@@tinycorvid Hey, just want to say you're cool ;)

I was recently in a public restroom at a large transit hub in center city Philly. When I went in, there was a person there washing their hands whose gender identity I could not easily assume.
I think it was literally a week in my case.
If you live in the United States, move to a blue state and go to planned Parenthood if you want HRT.

Because people do the thing where they already think you know every other transperson "just because you are trans", people were even more inclined to think I knew this transwoman because "OMG YOU HAVE THE SAME NAME!!!"
With the second first name she has, my initials would've been the exact same as hers. I decided that I didn't want to hear that question even more than I already did, so kept the name my parents would have given me should they have gotten identical twin girls.

Sometimes at work, people will see me from behind and assume I'm a man and then either go with it the whole time or apologize with "oh sorry ma'am" EXCEPT this one time this lady thought I was a woman from behind then apologized when I turned around with "oh sorry sir". I think I've hit peak gender. Based off of the area I live in, these are also probably the kind of people who "can always tell" when someone is trans or cis.

Easy little tip to fit in with cis guys: Start talking about the Holy Roman Empire. Is it Holy? Is it Roman? Is it an Empire? Many hours of long debate can be had on this subject alone!

@terryw.2918 just definitely don't forget the sunscreen as my surgeon said a lot of sunscreen over the scars for the first year.
I had top surgery in march and I went actually swimming for the first time a few days ago, very nice feeling. I had tried to go swimming last month but the water was so cold, I was in pain. I went (struggled) into the pool, stood there for a second, and was like nope. But it was warmer recently, so I could force myself to go in the pool easier. It was also nice that I didn't have to feel my chest freezing. I dont have feeling on my nips and around the scars yet, quite useful in that situation.

I thought I was a cis boy/man for 26 years and now hate how stupid I was the signs were there my whole life I just pushed it aside I still say I was in the closet from myself and now I am an openly trans woman. I'm not on her yet but I'm working on getting on estrogen and T blockers still need to change my legal name too
You weren't stupid, you were just living in a very cisnormative society. Maybe you didn't even know you could be trans, or maybe you were taught that being trans would be too horrible to contemplate. That wasn't your fault, but overcoming it and learning to know and love your true self is your achievement. May your transition journey be safe and joyful.
Don't beat yourself up, there is no correct time to discover yourself. Good luck on your transition!
You got this … I, your Internet Uncle-Gay🏳🌈, believe in you.
And I wish you a speedy and complication-free transition that brings you all that you hope for!
Just curious, what were those signs?
I'm aroace and just figured it out one year ago (at 32yo), because I never heard about aroasexualitty before. Then, I discovered all the very obvious signs I missed, and, now, I'm obsessed about signs that everyone missed.
(My signs: never felt in love; thought wgen I was a teen that everyone was playing pretend being adults when they dated - I never realized they were really in love and/or felt sexual attraction; thought very confidently in my 20s that we can control being in love or not - because I didn't want to fall in love while being a student, and I didn't; have no clue how to flirt; don't understand while people want so badly being in couple and/or being secually active. 😂)
8:55 i saw one of those the other month, my mum said “why do they want to stop trans, that’s rude”
I’m AroAce, and I still get a lot of “you’ll find someone” BS
I thought that AroAce people had it easy compared to other LGBT+ groups, but after coming out online, man was I wrong!

Non-binary, a few years ago I had cut my hair incredibly short and could pass as being either male or female. I had so many people refer to me as male upon first seeing me and then switching once I started talking. The saddest one was a small child referring to me as "him" on something, the mother "corrected" them with "that's a girl" and then the child asked why I had short hair if I was a girl. The mother said "because girls can have short hair too" and I'm just standing there awkwardly like "yes, but..."
👻 Another thing about Rowling and her "transformative" literature that someone has already pointed out, in the last book Hermione and several other drink a potion to transform themselves into the likeness of Harry. Eventhough this transformation is thorough (Harry on one occasion got his eyesight changed by drinking it himself) meaning that Hermione most definitely has Harry's "equipment" at that point, she never stops being referred to by she/her pronouns.

That Cass woman has blood on her hands.
There is a logic to it. The evidence for the term effects not being bad is only suggestive as of now. Being based on the research from a different applications. There is logic to wanting to prevent potential harm because while pb are very positive short term its not the only effective treatment.
@@-864- Anyone can claim to be anything online so I'm not sure what your point is. I've seen the data too believe it or not, a lot of it. That is why I know that it's important to stop blocking puberty in kids, it's not healthy. It causes damage. It's wrong to do to any kid, except for ones with certain types of cancer. Puberty is a human right and I believe we're only a few years away from having that coded into law. No doctor or anyone should have the authority to change a child's development like that. The data shows that the majority of gender nonconforming kids grew out of it if left alone, most of whom grew up to be regular gay adults. PB can lead to sterility (lifelong complication) and bone density weakness (also a lifelong complication), among other things. And for what? for that child to pass better unless they desist? How is that healthcare?
Took my third try to realize it was "puberty blockers". My first two guesses were "peanut butter" and "lead".
@@group555_ so you think 6 year olds should have to go through puberty and that's not bad for them? The cass report is one of the most unscientific things to ever call itself a study.
@waffles3629 i'm not referring to the cass report. This is what the scientist made the original study on puberty blockers said. They never denied the possibility but did say it's not definitive.
Also, 6 year olds do not go through puberty. That's a use case of puberty blocers that has been researched. What I'm referring to is the use to delay puberty at the ages kids would get it under standard circumstances.
Multiple-occupancy gender neutral bathrooms can take some getting used to, but it was a very quick adjustment for me. Congratulations!
Congrats! I hope it goes well and helps you on your journey on being true to yourself!
Hurray for you! I hope your surgery goes well and heals quickly.
congrats!!!! i had top surgery im march. unsolicited advice coming from me but these are important:
- clean your living space before surgery, properly dust, vacuum, organise everything, after surgery it's hard to do daily tasks and you'll want your space to be clean and neat. have all the items you need daily in easy places.
