- With the announcement that the New Zealand DH class locomotives not being around for much longer KiwiRail are sending them to Hutt for a bit of a life extension, bit of paint and upgrade to the Remote control system the locos have. DH 2845 is the first to under go this process (KiwiRail are working on 1 at a time for the moment) the next is DH 2822 which was transferred south the same day DH 2845 came north.
In the video we see Train 234 towing DH 2845 from Wellington to Auckland after it had been out-shopped, We start the the chase in Taumarunui where we follow the train up the trunk to Hamilton (Rotokauri) where we see an awesome crossover with Trains 234 and 221 (which was towing DH 2822 bound for Wellington)
The shot of 234 at Hamilton, Frankton station was produced by Trainspotting_NewZealand

Next Video will either be DBR 1254 to Ohakune or the Refurbished (Blue) EFs in service so stay tuned for that!
Special Thanks to the KiwiRail Crews for a great chase and some cool rail fanning!
Enjoy!
Cool drone footage following the route of a large freight train hauled by three KiwiRail locomotives big and small! It looks like you manage to produce wonderful New Zealand train videos that tell stories. Nice work!
Lovely drone opener❤👍🏻🚂
The DH are one of my favourite NZ locos. Always enjoy seeing an end cab switcher. Hope a few are preserved.
remember when driving in napier in the late 70s we had the de s.they could motor.
That is a tidy looking shunter along for the ride.
Awesome video thanks yo!
Thanks!
amazing shots we get from the latest technologies.remember the old brownie camera?
Will have to visit Taumarunui one day for a "cuppa tea and a pie". Do you think GVR will eventually get their hands on a DH? Those old Auckland commuter rail carriages looking sad as too.
Well, the carriages have been sitting for 9ish years now
As for GVR getting a DH I'm not sure they have a bit of a problem with space and storage atm with the ADLs being there
Thanks. Are they often consisted with DL's? Is it for extra horsepower or to shunt at the destination.
No
It had just finished overhaul at Hutt workshops and was being transferred back to Auckland
The one on the other train was being transferred to Hutt for its overhaul.
