  • After a long wait, They're finally ready! EF locomotives are officially back in service. On the 15th of March EFs 30192 and 30232 successfully completed a test run to Taihape and return. The EFs hauled Train 234 from Palmerston North to Taihape where they waited for Train 251 returning from the Tangiwai Pulp mill which they brought back to Palmerston North. The results from this test run are seeing the 4 out of 6 Locos (EFs 30163, 30226, 30192 and 30232). EF 30042 still needs a little work done and EF 30059 is almost ready to be out shopped from Hutt Workshops.
    Starting April 2nd EFs will be running on trains 225/234 for a few weeks with a DL loco lifeboat with more to come soon. Being a huge EF fan I will be putting more content showcasing these locos as time goes on. I also have a few special videos in the works too, so essentially there will be more to come.
    Special Thanks to the KiwiRail Crews for a great chase and to the ones in the workshops getting the EFs back up and running!
    At the end of the video there is a bonus clip of EF 30007's supposed last train before Refurbishment nothing to special just an overhead inspection.
    Enjoy!

    Great Video, The EF's look great in the Yellow and Blue, shame those Grubby DL's have to babysit the EF's. The EF's looks pleased to be back and very much at home pulling freight over the steep inclines of the NIMT Line, thanks for sharing

    Nice! I was considering OIAing Kiwirail to find out why they'd gone so quiet on the EFs since 2022, now I don't have to!

      They were pulled from service all but 5
      Over 2023, they had a lot of problems with infrastructure, which stopped them from running, and then they were breaking down some thanks to the infrastructure.

    I didn't manage to see any EFs on my last visit to NZ so it was great to see them on your video. The colour scheme really suits them.

    Great to see 192 and 232 out there actually on a train. I will be keeping an eye on 234 and 225 passing through Taumarunui using Class 30 power up front.

    Very smart... but quite sparky! Awesome vid. Where do you get the train numbers from? Is there a publicly available timetable?

    • @KiwiRailSpotter
      @KiwiRailSpotter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sparks are normal.
      Train numbers and timetables are common knowledge for me.
      There are timetables, but I'm not sure about it being public, though..

    Class 30's are back. They are on the front of Train 234 heading north through Taumarunui . (163 and 232?) 2 DL's are on the train as well. I guess the Class 30's will be back on Train 225 tomorrow.

    I must be the only person who dislikes the livery.
    But what's important is that the EF's are coming back, which is great news, even if it's probably only for about a decade. Hopefully Kiwirail are able to replace them with new electric locomotives come ~2035.

    • @KiwiRailSpotter
      @KiwiRailSpotter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why don't you like the livery?

    • @danieleyre8913
      @danieleyre8913 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KiwiRailSpotter I just reckon it looks brash and fugly.
      But don't mind me. I'm someone who thinks that they should bring back the old fruit salad/international orange livery and 1970s-80s logo, ditching the 2008 fern logo & text.

      @KiwiRailSpotter  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @danieleyre8913 That's alright. Im very thrilled to see them nice and clean, and the blue looks so nice through the King country, The livery is slightly different on all of them, too, takes a keen eye to spot the differences.
      We'll have to wait and see what they do with 30007. I've heard a few things about it.

    So let me understand this. Two thirds of the main line is electrified and only uses 4 electric locomotives? Would it not be beneficial to completely finish off the electrification and have electric passenger ops as well as freight :D

    • @KiwiRailSpotter
      @KiwiRailSpotter  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably would be but who knows why it wasn't
      And there are only 5 (almost 6) locos because they're undergoing refurbishment...
      As for passenger we'll have to wait and see.

    Why do kiwi rail tow two diesel engines through the middle section

    • @KiwiRailSpotter
      @KiwiRailSpotter  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In this video
      It was because the EFs were being signed off, and they were only going as far as taihape, so 234 locos continued the train north. 251 had already been sent out with DLs and shunted with tangiwai. The EFs stayed at Taihape to be added to the front on the way back.
      If you're referring to the past few months, they are backup locos in case the EFs have faults.
