      It's apparently making a comeback. The ProDrone Byrd also came with one. The thing is, they both came with name brand versions and not cheap knockoffs.

    I had the opportunity to 'flight test' an X-Star Premium today, and I was extremelly impressed, and I own a Phantom 3 Advanced too. I feel that the X-Star remote is more comfortable to hold, and seemed to have even less lag than my P3A. I like it so much that I'm sure I'll end up getting one, but what I really need to do is save money for an Inspire 1 eventually.

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I personally love the X-Star radio. Like you said, it's more ergonomic than the P3 radio. It's actually the most ergonomic radio I've had the pleasure of using. Everything is exactly where it should be on it.
      Thanks for watching and please don't forget to like and subscribe!

      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dwayne Baker Thanks for the kind words. I will be doing a full review for the X-Star Premium for sure. The detailed written review will be published in RotorDrone magazine and I will have a full video review up as well. Next is the first flight video with some footage from the aircraft and a photo or two. I'll be posting photos from the aircraft on my Instagram feed as I take them as well, user name is skylabfs. The full review won't be ready for a couple of weeks. I like to spend time flying the aircraft and make sure that it will do everything the same way every time. That is so important in my opinion but it doesn't always fit in with current marketing views. Haha.
      Thanks again!

    @dwaynebaker2336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the prompt response, wow, the p4 flimsy, and everybody who owns one is saying how rock solid the build is, I think my next drone is gonna be the xstar:)

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dwayne Baker That is, of course, just my opinion. The X-Star is definitely solid and they have US based customer support too. If I were you, I'd go to a Best Buy or an Apple store and hold one of the P4s yourself, if that is possible. I know not everyone lives near one of those places. While I'm happy to share my opinion, I encourage others to remember to take that into account. I'll present things that are facts and make sure that anything that is subjective is clarified that it is my opinion.
      Thanks!

  • @scottcarrier1121
    @scottcarrier1121 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Kevin....will the case dimensions meet airline standards for overhead compartments and carry on?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Scott Carrier So airline standards say 45 inches max (length+width+depth) and the X-Star case is right there. It should be ok. Also, remember that almost all airlines reserve a certain amount of space for child car seats and strollers. Most airlines, if you ask politely, will stow your case in that area. They have for me and many others in the past. I've taken my Microrapter Pro Cases on several planes as have many others. They are a bit bigger than the X-Star case.
      Hope that helps!

    • @scottcarrier1121
      @scottcarrier1121 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks dude...good info....

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Scott Carrier You're welcome. Happy to help. Remember that it's at the airline's discretion as to whether they help you out or not. Though it has worked for me and others, that does not mean that it will work when you ask. I just want that to be clear. The likelihood of being turned down is rather low unless you happen to be on a flight with a lot young children!

  • @axeldejesus2060
    @axeldejesus2060 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Kevin. Which drone is your favorite between the P4 and the X Star premium?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't own a P4 myself. I've flown one several times though. If I had to pick between the P4 and the X-Star Premium, I'd pick the X-Star now that I can get good lens filters for it. Freewell Gear just introduced a full range of lens filters for the X-Star line and they are available at CarolinaDronz.com. Now that I can control the quality of my footage/photos with lens filters, I would pick the X-Star over all other drones under $2000 right now. I own an Inspire 1 v2.0 and it is the only other drone that beats the quality from the X-Star but it's more of a pro unit. Hands down, the X-Star is the best drone you can buy among the current drones offered.
      Thanks for watching my video!

  • @everfreeeeee
    @everfreeeeee 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am a P3 owner.... i am considering to buy a X-star premium too... cause my friend said its very good one. but before that i would like to research is it really better than P3? cause it seems like a clone but not sure if they do it in better job... any advise ? is it worth to buy one if i have a P3 ?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the answer to your question is really a matter of opinion. If you have a P3 standard, the the X-Star offers more features than the P3 standard.
      I own a P3 Pro. The X-Star is at least equal to it in my opinion. I like the Starlink app better than the DJI Go app. The Starlink app makes it easier to use features like Orbit and Waypoints and generally feels more intuitive. It's simple in the areas where the Go app is not.
      Is the X-Star a clone? I don't think so. I think the Autel Robotics learned from DJI and listened to complaints about certain things and then made the X-Star. The X-Star was in development for more than 18 months and Autel Robotics invested a lot of money in research, design and testing. They didn't just copy the Phantom and through it out to market to make a quick buck.
      Ultimately, whether the X-Star is better than the P3 Pro is up to you to decide. I like the case that the X-Star comes with as it makes carrying it around easy and is way better than the cheap foam box that the new P4 comes in. Is the case designed to be shipped all over the world? No. It's designed for the user to conveniently carry it with them. For $899, I do think it is a good deal when considering all that you get. Batteries are cheaper too.
      Thanks for watching and for your questions. I hope my answer helped you.

      +Skylab Flight Systems wow...you reply super fast ! thanks man !
      i got a P3 pro too and got the Hardshell Backpack but buy it separately ..i will think deeper see if i still go for X-star .
      for the Starlink app you mention , is it available for Android phone too? i seems cant find it.

    @timothywirth8560 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure,recorded a couple of videos in 1080p and the file was 4gb.To large to share with email,is ther a video editor program or just a setting change on the remote?
    Thanks

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is not a video editor in the Starlink app as of now. If you want to share the entire 4gig of video without editing, you will have to use Dropbox or Google Drive.
      You can change the video settings in the app but that is for quality not sharing.
      If you are only looking to share a portion of the video, then you will need to use a video editor of some sort to trim away what you do not want to share.

    how do you like the xstar, do you think it's comp for the phantom, or better then the phantom? the build quality looks much better then the phantom, don't know about the phantom 4 though, let me know if the xstar is worth buying. thanks

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dwayne Baker Thanks for watching the video. I really like the build quality. I have a P3P and the body is better on the X-Star for sure. While I don't own a P4, I've had one in my hands and it just feels flimsy. The X-Star Premium was originally designed to compete with the P3P though and it does that very well. It's reliable and easy to fly. I have a first flight video in the making so stay tuned.
      Thanks again for watching!

    Does anyone know the actual payload capacity of the X Star? Looking to use it to take bait out for fishing. I'd be using mullet and different fish. I'll be shark fishing. I almost bought the Yuneec 500 but this got really good reviews and I like the distance it had. I stumbled upon some specs that said it would only carry 180 grams or .40 lbs. I just ordered this copter though. If that's the case it will not be enough. I need it to carry atleast 1lb with the weight I'm using. If not I'll make someone a good deal on the X-Star Premium I just ordered. Lol
    Thank you guys.

    • @theden25
      @theden25 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skylab Flight Systems I did see that on a spec sheet online, but I also saw on the same site , they said the regular X-Star had a capacity of 800 grams. Hard to believe the difference is greater vs the Premium edition.

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +theden25 That's the total lifting capacity for both. Factor the camera into that and then the extra weight of the long range (1.2 miles) video transmitter and it's not so hard to see the difference. Also remember that they err on the side of caution. when fishing, you won't need to hit 400 feet in 3 seconds. Are you going to be able to haul in a 3' shark? I doubt it. Not sure if any of the smaller quads will either.

    • @theden25
      @theden25 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skylab Flight Systems I won't actually be using the drone to fish with, but just carry my bait out into the ocean and drop it off. The bait I use will weigh around 1-1 1/2lbs. I've seen it done using the DJI in all platforms, which made me believe that this could carry the same. When I looked at the spec sheets it listed 180grams for the Premium and 800 for the regular. This was listed under payload capacity and not total weight of copter with remote.

      No, I am not paid by them. Never have been. I have only participated in testing the X-Star. I covered this when asked the same question by another viewer. This is not new as all manufacturers use experienced pilots to test and validate their products. It's called beta testing.

    • @iquad7871

      +i QUAD No, that's not what I did. What I said was that I worked WITH them which is clear when you look at the videos I've posted over the past year. I never once said I work FOR Autel Robotics. But you are welcome to interpret it any way you want. I chose to disclose that I had been a part of the beta testing, which I stated in videos that are 9+ months old, to be honest. Not stating that would have been dishonest and disrespectful to those of you that choose to watch the videos I've posted.

    I dont have a pc or anything so my phone does it all. If all I have to do is switch the memory card to my phone to see my vids and pics in high quality, im buying the orange.
    Cheers kev

      Hey Scott! It's going to depend on your phone really. In theory, you should be able to play back all of the video as it records in .mov or .mp4. You will definitely be able to see the photos though. Send me an email when you have a sec, kevin.skylabfs@gmail.com
      And thanks for watching my videos!

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +whitoutWatching Yes sir. The X-Star will shoot 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.
      Thanks for watching!

      +whitoutWatching No sir. Not as of now anyway. I'm not aware of future plans though. They made the gimbal/camera removable so who knows what they have planned.

      +whitoutWatching I called Autel this morning to ask the same thing, after seeing the 'Vision' setting inside of the starlink app. The answer I received is that they don't have plans for the gimble & camera to be usable on its own, but are willing to take it into consideration for the future. I did ask for my feedback and interest on standalone use to be forwarded to the relevant R&D teams.

      +digitoast Cool. one thing that they do have coming soon is a handheld 4k camera similar to the Osmo. Not sure when but it is coming.

    Everything the Autel Prem offers is strangely similar to what DJI's Phantom 3 Pro. How are they getting away with that and not being sued by DJI?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that is a question for the lawyers. All I can offer is that all quads are strangely similar to one another. It's been that way since before the Phantom 1. Most people don't realize that there were other quads out before the P1. They just weren't as good. That hasn't changed any.
      Of course DJI is getting their sue on but with the aircraft least like it, Yuneec's Q500 line is what is named in the suit. Go figure.

      +Bobster986 The suit starts out naming the Q500 and does, at the end, include the H. I read it just to see what DJI was claiming.

      +Bobster986 Yeah, that one. This is really straying way off topic though and I am not really interested in debating whether and who DJI should sue. That is a discussion for the forums.

    what's the supposed fpv and TX range?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Autel Robotics lists the Premium at 1.2 miles. I've tested it way past that but it will depend on your location.

      +Skylab Flight Systems are there aftermarket mods to increase the distances? im only interested as i live in a mountainous area with views forever. I actually would benefit from the extra distance. my bro in law had his P4 yesterday and its awesome! Read your comment below about it being flimsy but i would have to say it felt solid/weight and sturdy to me.
      What is the speed of this machine? apart from a 1.2 mile distance this machine is perfect to me. price is great aswell. How much are extra batteries?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Mathieson The X-Star is still new but I'm sure there will be mods available for it as far as increasing your distance.
      When, or if, you get an X-Star, you will notice a big difference in the feel of it compared to the P4.
      Batteries are available from CarolinaDronz.com and I think they are $119.
      Thanks for watching!

      +Skylab Flight Systems just watched your first flight video. The picture quality is awesome! I live in the uk, and have been contemplating the P3A/P since he showed ne the P4 as i thought to get a cheaper model and see what the P5 brings. I really wanted the 4k though capability though which the P3P costs a bit extra. Do you feel this drone has a better 4k playback than the P3 4k?
      I think drones have now got to the point where they are a viable tool to make a side business out of. The video quality is phenomenal and you get the viewing angles only drones/aircraft can achieve.
      Whats the height range of these? Not that I would, due to the risk factor but the P4 hits not far off 20,000 ft altitude.... mind blown.
      These new drones are serious technology...

      Scott Mathieson I would say the 4k quality is pretty close to equal. It really is a subjective question these days. There's so much that goes into making a great video with regards to quality. For the most part, today's drones are pretty close in footage quality and capabilities. In the end, it will come down to price and brand preference (factoring in customer service and available accessories).
      Drones have been a viable tool for production companies for several years now. Most of the popular movies released to theaters over the past 3-5 years have included footage from a drone of some sort.
      Unlike DJI, Autel Robotics does not list a max altitude. Why DJI does is beyond me and is probably part of the reason we see people trying to capture footage of airliners taking off or landing.
      We are entering the golden age of this new tech and it will continue to improve for the foreseeable future. Eventually, almost every home will have some sort of autonomous robot (DRONE) that performs some menial task. Imagine a drone that follows the 8 year old girl around feeding the footage back to the parents while they prepare dinner. It could raise an alarm when the child starts to venture off in a direction that is dangerous for example.

    Geez how many DJI patents were infringed upon creating this aircraft? It's a copy of of the P3Pro through and through only the video quality isn't there. I watched your first flight video. What was with all the artifacting as you moved over the water?

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Could you be more specific regarding "artifacting while flying over the water" as the entire flight was over water? Where exactly were you seeing it?

    • @JasonScarboro
      @JasonScarboro 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skylab Flight Systems look at the surface of the water in the video. It looks ok in a hover but every time you move the aircraft you can see the small squares and discoloration appear. Watch it again focusing on the water surface I doubt you'd be able to miss it.

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jason Scarboro Again, can you point out a specific time where you see that?

    • @JasonScarboro
      @JasonScarboro 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skylab Flight Systems It's pretty much throughout the entire flight. Any time the aircraft or camera moves over the water. A lot of it is concentrated towards the bottom area of the picture. Just watch the video there is no way you can miss it.

    • @SkylabFlightSystems
      @SkylabFlightSystems  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jason Scarboro Clearly I'm missing it then. I don't see artifacting at all in the footage. The only issue I noted in the footage was a slight fisheye noticed when the camera pans across the buildings.
