1st Time Filming in this awesome area of YORKSHIRE. 09/08/23

- This video covers Swinton Station and Mexborough Station, both places I have never filmed at before.
We picked a great day which included some special workings.
Its was also great to meet Donny Pete and his dog Charlie who you will see in this video.

Pleasant surroundings, vintage traction, plus some 150s and HSTs can’t be bad.
I have been wanting to do some filming in this area for a long time Bryan, and I wasn't disappointed with what we got to film with all that proper traction.
We saw more than I expected to when I did the planning for the day.

Fair enough mate, in years gone bye there was locos stabled all over the place, but some blooming woman closed all the mines.
That was a very sad time for me in the early 80s.

The coal traffic in this area Ian must have been brilliant, thanks to that woman its all good now, but are we any better off, I would like to think so ??
I will give it another go in the future as it was a good day, but we did have them extra working, ATB Mike.

Ps, most of the locos I saw were 56s and class 58s with the odd 47, I think the drivers were proud men, invariably with coller and ties
On .Two communities, the ASLEF Men and the NUM heroes .Very busy through Casleford at the level crossing , plenty of gas again from the pits .I'd be coming back over here , Poynton, and to see all that was fascinating 👏 👌

Yes it was the day I went Andrew, a very lucky day with them extra workings.

I have been waiting for this one and it was well worth the wait because as you know i was a bit further down the line and saw most of what you caught at Swinton and Mexborough, which is a great little station. Oh and the Spoons ain't bad either is it. Thanks for sharing Mike and am already looking forward to the next instalment.

Thanks for this comment Colin, as I said in the description it was a cracking day as I was with Ben who is always good for a chat about out hobby, and meeting Pete was good.
We did two Spoons on the day so yes that will be on the next part of this super day.

Was good to have some proper old traction to film mate.
Long time since I saw that route. I lived north of Darlington for the 80s. Coming home to Brum we passed by occasionally. I had an aunt who was born in Mexborough too. Folks there have quite a distinct accent. And where did TYS units end up . . . So many connections in one video, incredible!! Been to Conisborough Castle too 🤣 👍👍👍👍👍
That is great Robert that this video has brought so many memoires and them connections with this area.
When I was filming some of the 150 units TYS came into my mind.

Great video as usual. However I find it odd that Tinsley and Rotherham liner trains go through Mexborough to get to Felixstowe, they're going the wrong way lol!
Yes Nigel I know how you are thinking, maybe its because its the best way of getting them over to the Gainsborough line through to Lincoln.

Excellent video Mike!! You got some excellent variety of footage there!! Shame 150001 and 002 left GWR! That class 20 tone made me jump through my headphones aaha good to see them as well as all the freight you got there! Nice to see the XC HST as well! At 16:39 that freight is going quite fast for a corner of that sharpness!!

Victoria street Kilnhurst,not Wentworth road Swinton at the beginning.
Google maps tells me the bridge on was standing on was Wentworth Road, yes Victoria Street is just meters away.
Am I right in thinking that 66098 was hauling a load of "Electric car fuel"? 🤔🤣
