I've embroidered for years, mostly cross-stitch. My mom tried to teach me regular embroidery when I was a kid, but I wasn't very patient. 😊 Then I had some friends who did cross-stitch, and it intrigued me. One of the things about pulling the strands of floss like you did is pretty standard. But I find that the threads can get tangled and can sometimes be a royal pain to untangle. So one of my friends, who had rheumatoid arthritis, came up to with a way to separate them that I've used ever since. Take a cut ends of the floss in one hand between your thumb and forefinger, and tap the end until the strand ends start to separate. Then, just pull the strands out, one by one, from the rest of them. The floss in your hand will bunch up against your finger and thumb, and look like they're tangled, but they're not. Especially if you cut a length like you showed Then lay the strand you pulled down where you won't lose it. I have several times, so i just stick each strand in my mouth. Straighten the floss in your hand, and repeat. So, no tangles. By putting them in my mouth I keep track of them and I can get the ends moistened for threading. Yeah, I know that's probably not good for the floss, but it's what I've done for years without problems, so it's habit. Anyway, I hope this was understandable and possibly even helpful.

Thank you! Everyone has different techniques and some might work better for others.

That was a great video. Now that you mentioned it your right. I never noticed how few talk about basic beginning things.

i'm glad! I've gotten so many kits and things that just go right into making the project, but the first part feels a mystery. Happy to share what I've learned.

@@bookhoarding I was lucky when I was learning to have a friend nearby who was around to answer all my questions! No matter the craft we all sometimes fall into the assumption that people have base knowledge and will just set it up in “the usual way”

@@robintheparttimesewer6798 exactly! I constantly see instructions say "usual way" and that's so confusing for newbies.

I didn’t realize that one should also wax embroidery floss…

you don't have to, and I'm sure most don't. I find it easier to thread and manipulate for my needs, especially when using lower quality floss (which I find more apt to tangle).
