That's terrible. My mom and dad both used to sew. My mom taught us all how to embroidery and on the weekends we all gathered around mom and dad and sewed quilts. My dad would sew his own curtains for the camper/topper on his truck. He was really good.
Way back in the day, I was in home ec. I got cooking down and the hand sewing but, not the sewing machine lol
Any sewing machine homework I had, my dad would do it for me lol
      I'm 58 and still can't use a machine lol

I'm SO happy to see your Vid. I've been embroidering for 45 years. My most precious piece took me 3 months (of daily work... 4 hours every day (when I lived in Italy).
I spent 2 years in Extreme Isolation, so I spent that time, working/completing a linen piece that was one of my great grandmothers heirloom pieces... of numerous that I inherited.
Daily Embroidery became my daily prayer & meditation...
I used simple stitches that became Creatively intricate & complex.
I havent picked up any awaiting embroidery projects.
You've inspired & motivated me to start this week
    May 17th, 2020..

For the bobbins and tracking your colours if you don't want to write on the bobbin itself, keep one of the tags on the end that you begin winding with, then wind over it as usual. It will flatten out and you won't notice. Then, when your at the end of your thread and you need more but you've forgotten what colour it is the original tag will be there for you.
    Great work!💗

Watching this even though I already know how to embroider. I have always wanted to hand embroider a pair of jeans, so that is the project I took on during my newfound free time. Just some advice: If you want to embroider on a stretchy piece of clothing, iron interfacing on the back so that the hoop does not stretch it out of shape.

    • @klbs9630
      @klbs9630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

Stefan Makara interfacing is something that adds structure and stability to garments during construction. The easiest home style is an iron on interfacing you can get at any fabric store. There’s different thickness types but it’s typically white and feels rough and bumpy on one side because the “glue dots” that the iron activates to adhere it to the surface you iron the smooth side of the surface to your fabric and it melts the glue dots to your fabric creating stiffness. If you ask someone in the fabric department at your craft store they can help you and it usually comes with instructions. Make sure you don’t put the iron on the glue side or you’ll hate your life lol but interfacing is an inexpensive item that can help a lot of things involving clothing and fabric

It is easier to tie the end of the thread before you start embroidering, so you don't have to hold it all the time or worry about losing it. A simple knot will do it, and it doesn't even show. It helps secure the whole design overall

Ok here’s a tip I just though of: for an easy project, practice different stitches all around the edges (chain stitch, back stitch, ect) and smack in the middle, just write Create! Or something, that way it’s nice and easy to help you practice, plus it will look really nice in the end

  • @emmapicott449

So, I do a lot of cross stitching, and have been thinking of getting into embroidery, too, and I have a tip for keeping your thread from tangling too much! When you separate the strand from the skein, you can hold the strand up and it will untwist a bunch. This works while you’re working with the thread, too, just hold the hoop up so that the thread with the needle on it dangles down and it will untwist, which helps keep it from tangling up too much! It will still tangle, but nowhere near as much as before, lol.

Very cool video. Popped up during a search and I enjoyed it. I think what I took away from this the most is that you don't get bogged down with techniques and technical stitches - you just thread the needle and fill in the space. I like that approach. And although I am interested in learning this and that stitch and this and that knot - my initial thought, when thinking that I wanted to try embroidering something and watching a ton of intricate videos, was - why can't I just grab a needle and some thread and just do something - make up my own techniques and come up with my own process for filling in a space? And months and months later I come across this video where you basically say that's what you did. I'm encouraged now - I wanted to make a journal for my landlord and do some embroidery on it (hence my interest in watching a lot of videos on it), but it seemed like I needed to know more than I knew right now. Having seen your video - I am gonna go get me a crap load of embroidery thread, draw me a design on some fabric, and fill it in however I see fit! Thanks for this. Your designs were simple, but still cute and still looks like embroidery. I will probably do some different styles and techniques though!!! And hey - IF I manage to squeeze a few technical stitches and fancy effects in - that will be a bonus! :D

I've been making friendship bracelets for a while. And I thought about buying a kit of thread, as you said not only are the colours meh, but they're kind of pricey. its far far better to just by one or 2 each of the colours you need.
Thank you for the informational video, I've never done embroidering, and well its the pandemic still so I figure let's try a new craft that shouldn't be too expensive since I have 90% of the things I need. (i just bought the needles and the hoops will be coming in a couple days.)
