  • Meet Nancy and Jonathan. A few years ago they were planning a camping trip to Norway. But the weather wasn’t looking so great and that’s when they decided to go sailing in Greece instead. A bit of an experiment, since Nance had never sailed before. But things worked out well. Let’s find out how they went from a slight change of plans, to buying a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 and sailing around the world.

You've got a good boat there , My pick (2 cabin version & in mast or in boom mainsail) definitely a step up from the glued together later models , Rule No.1 in cruising ' Dont have a time table' - Enjoy , Life's not a rehearsal .

Welcome to the cruising community. My wife and I circumnavigated in the 1980s, presently cruising the Bahamas. Keep the videos coming.

Very good presentation of how to make a “production boat” into a premium world cruiser. Many of us are doing just that by taking on some of these same improvements mentioned here.

Favourite comment, which I’m surprised doesn’t seem to faze more people: “I put across through any boat where the traveller crosses through the middle of the cockpit” Agree, particularly when it’s right in front of the companion way, knee-high.

Completely agree. Would prefer a classic boat but there are some deal breakers which mean that comfort will trump all else and I'll likely end up with one of these.

Nice video. A mid 40ft Sailboat really seems to be a very good Sweet spot in size, both big enough and heavy enough, without Outrageous increases in Maintenance costs that can shoot up dramatically once you go over 50 ft boat kength. For solo sailing, under 40ft long term can be really nice. I was quite happy with my last boat a solid 32ft Endeavour long keel Shallow Draft, but being somewhat disabled now, to be able to keep sailing has forced a major rethink, as to get my boat and myself anywhere, I am going to need a delivery skipper and Crew fairly often, so comfy space for them, and a decent galley and large food and water storage (and a Watermaker at some point) have increased in importance, which got me to that sweet spot boat size, and ease of boat , Sails, etc handling so I can still single hand the boat if it becomes necessary. I did notice that you have a dark colour Bimini over the Cockpit, and I think you will be surprised just how hot that Cockpit can get as a result, so until you can get something lighter colour, you may want to sort cans out in the cabins, starting with the forward berth, pushing air towards the stern then up the companionway to get a lot of air movement into the Cockpit and away off the stern. We'll done on the induction hob, they make a lot of sense and can save a lot of gas. A bit of a drain on the battery Bank, but a Pressure cooker, and a hob plus gas compatible deep Frypan can give fast breadmaking with Frybread recipes, plenty of which are available on TH-cam, including Navaho fry read, and Hillbilly bread recipes to get ideas with, which should workmok with an induction hob. If you have a Rear Cockpit Solar Arch, it reduces or eliminates shading losses with rigid Solar Panels (I'm planning 4 x 250 watt High efficiency Monocrystalline panels that weigh 15kg each, but you can put something else just under them to hold fresh fruit and vegetables, by having a port to Starboard "Hammock" made from the side deck guard rail netting sold by the metre in many Chandlers, so the fruit and vegetables will be in the shade and in easy reach, with a quick look telling you what you have left and what may need using next. What is your TH-cam channel by the way isntbthis the channel of who was doing the filming ? Best Wishes and Fair Winds, maybe see you out there. Bob. 👍

Very good presentation of how to make a “production boat” into a premium world cruiser. Many of us are doing just that by taking on some of these same improvements mentioned here. I have removed the Panda generator that was located under my nav seat on my Hunter 44DS and installed 900 amp hrs of lithium to store the 810 watts of solar on my arch, and augmented, if needed by a 260 amp smart alternator on the main drive Yanmar. I like the “3 high volume bilge pumps”. Vlotte vaart!

Je kan het automatisch ondertitelen bij TH-cam. Wil je weten hoe? Laat ff weten. Ik heb dat ook nodig.
