Turned out great man, the only thing I saw that I would recommend for the future, if you look at the clear coat it kinda deflects the light in a disoriented way which is called orange peel. If you wanna take it to the next step, wet sand your clear coat with like 1500 - 2000 grit and buff over with a cutting & polishing compound, it will come out like a mirror.
Awesome job, man! Thanks for being so detailed in explaining. Some people might call it over kill, but I found it extremely helpful for anyone who doesn't realize what you can do with spray cans. Definitely earned my "subscribe". Also, if you put some links in your description, I bet a lot of people would buy through those links and make you some money. 💰 🤑
This video is honestly underrated cause you did a great job! Very meticulous but pays off! 🤙🏼 after watching your video it gave me the last bit of confidence I needed to pull the trigger on my project.
Came out good bro just water sand it and polish and it's perfect take all the orange peele away also what brand are your glasses Ive been looking for a set like them or similar thanks bro good job
Another good option is to used a diamond concrete grinding wheel on a right angle grinder .The wheel is for flattening nibs in concrete . Cost about 25.00 . Use that to score the surface of the chrome . Every square inch . The scoring is VERY deep and also preps the surface for attaching fiberglass cloth and resin , to patch holes in the chrome . The chrome is now rough enough to accept Bondo . Takes about an hour score the surface of the chrome . Now just resurface and paint as usual . Works great.
@@mattbirch93 On my pickup , there is a removeable chrome overlay . I think it is backed up with copper . But dont worry about burning through the chrome . The chrome is so slippery that the rougher the surface becomes the better . As long as the chrome is sound structurally you can grind off a lot. Any rust holes should get the loose rusties ground off and then use heavy weight Fiberglass cloth to patch hole . Then cover everything with thin layer of bondo , just like a car door or panel .
This is great video. Thanks for sharing commonly. I have recently bought a chrome bumper for my truck. But the color is metallic. I mean the color is like mirror, it is colorless and shiny. It is brand new bumper. I want it in white color because the front bumper of my truck is white. Can I directly use the paint that is used in the video? or do I have to make sanding and priming on the whole surfaces of this brand new bumper?
wow that’s beautiful, excellent job. I would like to hear or see an update of it a couple years later how is it doing. What part of the country do you live in by the way just curious I’m up north in Minnesota.
Hello. @Bradley Walsh 1.) How did you know how much base cost to use? (How did you know when it matches as closest as possible) - I watched you used two full cans, but was wondering how you knew that was time to stop with the base. 2.) So If the primer is dead smooth, without any debris or anything in it, you don’t have to sand it? 3.) How did you know how much primer to use? Great Video and Lesson.
You used 2 full cans of base and 2 full cans of clear on just the bumper? I'ma have to buy more cans then Wana do my front and rear really nice job man i usually use regular gloss clear coat recently ordered some 2k clear excited to try it
Followed all your steps, used the same materials, read all the comments and in 1 of them you briefly said you polish and wax, can you write me back telling me what polish and what steps you did to get a glass finish?
Your lower pass is a little light on both your mid and clear coats. You really need to be sure to continue your pass all the way along the bumper not stop in the middle. You should also prep with sand blasting media for ultimate adhesion.
Nice job Brad, for spray can, but the gloss wasnt there under the number plate section, and definately lots of peel, which you get from spray cans. If people dont have the space or inclination to have a compressor, then would do spray cans, but nowhere near the atomisation from a good spray gun, not to mention the cost. But great work and thanks for the video.
Paul Noone I've used spraymax 2k countless times with results nearly comparable to my Iwata HVLP. I guess you don't know but after the clear dries you sand with 1500-2500 then compound/polish/wax.. And Fords naturally come from the factory with a fair amount of orange peal. So probably about the same as his final product. But you can either spend $23 on Spraymax 2k clear or $400 HVLP gun/$800 compressor/$90 clear & activator/rent or purchase/build spray booth for $8,000.. Then after that small fortune you still cut n polish for glass results if thats what you're going for.. Plus cleaning your gun and the hours etxta... Why I use Spraymax 2k, which is the same as any 2 part clear you shoot through a HVLP for smaller projects. And tossing the can is the entirety of the cleanup... He may have had an unusually hot day that made the clear dry too fast causing the orange peal.. But a little tlc and it would have the same results. Some people don't have $15,000 to be able to paint a bumper so $20 for the same results makes sense to me.
Awesome video! 1) How many cans of layers of primer did you use? 2) did you use 120 grit and then put your primer over that? 3) how is the bumper holding up now?
Great video AND Serious question....why would one not use 2k epoxy primer or etching primer? Does the 2k clear do such a good job that it solves the bonding issue with chrome? Or is adequate sanding really enough with the standard primer to have good adhesion? I use 2k clear on metal and plastics (Topcoat) but have a project coming up doing some chrome and would really like to feel confident about either using or not using the epoxy primer or etching primer... I have just watched 30 videos of idiots painting chrome that will last until the video gets recorded if they are careful... Help me Obi Wan Kenobi you're my only hope!...... :)
That paint dust is absolutely terrible for your lungs. Doing jobs like this often, with no lung protection, WILL take 10 years off your life. Fact for all you DIYers

I did this years ago on my 09 Silverado, it did last but I rushed the process and it did chip overtime. Going to do this on my 21 Silverado 2500
Just wished you posted a photo of the finish product on your truck. Thanks!!
That came out killer absolute professional results

can we before painting white, painting rock guard paint? to protect for rocks? and then do the White ?

Would this same procedure work on a plastic material like grill moulding & trim ? Thinking about a DIY job for my ram.
Yes, but don't go with as aggressive sandpaper as it can Marr the plastic.
No hate or any but did bro just sand down a white bumper just to paint it white again
what type of material is the chrome usually in on cars? plastic? It can't be "real" chrome anyway, it's very expensive, right?
Is this primer as good as epoxy primer most videos I saw, state that they used epoxy primer for chrome bumper?
Hey bud great video got a question tho where did you get the cans for the base coat color match at
good job, but you should always use etching primer on bare metal,
Where do you get your paint color matched and put in a spray can
Where did you get the summit white paint
Where and how did you get the base paint?
Where’d you get your color matched to the paint code of your truck spray cans?
This is where I get mine. www.jerzyautopaint.com/
Great video im doing my bumpers next
How did your bumpers go ?
@@brad6192 yes sir it went well overall I like it
Looks good, how has it held up after 2 years?
Hey did you use a special kind of sandpaper or did you just use regular sandpaper ?
Great job!
How did it hold up?
Where did you go to get the exact paint for the base coat ? A local body shop ?
Where did you you get your rattle cans from?
If you have an Orileys auto parts is where I've gotten mine. You can find your paint code on the driver's door or the trunk lid
Followed all your steps, used the same materials, read all the comments and in 1 of them you briefly said you polish and wax, can you write me back telling me what polish and what steps you did to get a glass finish?
Where did you get your base coat paint cans at ?
Where did you go that someone mixed up your paint and put it in a can
Can you post a link for the base and clear?
Will this work on chrome wheels?
That summit white color?
how has it held up so far??
Is this just for chrome? Or can it be done for other metal. Like a black bumper
Nice work! I’m thinkin of doing this too. How well has this held up?
I have to redo my front bumper. Same concept, color matched. just curious why did you go all way down to the chrome?
These where chrome bumpers before
How is this holding up now?!
have u check out the new chrome paint it looks like real chrome
How many cans of each did u get for the bumpers?
What type of primer did you use
Where did you get the clear coat paint? And what type of primer did you use?
From a local body shop. For primer I used transtar
Why didn't you use a compound and then polish it out . The shine would have looked even better
Do you sand it with the 60 or the 100 first?
You always start with the lowest grit, moving up to the highest

music was annoying as hell
