  • The image of Philip II has come to us distorted by his enemies’ accounts. In this video I talk about his courtly training, giving a radical distinct image from the traditional obscure and fanatical figure, an image that cannot be held any longer due to the new research. The emperor Charles V, already organizing his succession, was aware of the Spanish monarchy’s ritual poverty. He commanded the introduction of the Burgundian protocol. Therefore, it was essential to train his son in the most elaborated etiquette used in the North. In 1548, Prince Philip, with a large royal courtship, departed from the port of Rosas, in a journey through the Spanish crown European territories. This trip will discover him the opulence of the court festivities and the excitement of night time meetings, and dancing, of course, was part of that training.
