My wife's grandfather bought a 111 brand new. Its been sitting in my inlaws barn for years. Im a john deere guy but i like them all. Been contemplating getting it out and going. This vid probably the push i needed to start on it. Great vid as always!
Can’t beat them! My dad still has his 1969 John Deere 112 with a Tecumseh engine. Has all the implements with it. He’ll pass it down to me when he’s ready. Has the dozer blade, plow, mower deck & one other attachment
I am almost 70 yrs old and messing with old lawn and garden tractors has always been a hobby of mine. It’s just gets in your blood taking that old junk and hearing it come to life. I just drug one in last night.
Great video! Love the content! I myself have way too many old riders sitting around waiting their turn to be fixed and I love tinkering with them and making them come to life! Like the IMI cap as well, I live in TN and before I retired I worked in a rock quarry and IMI was one of our customers...small world! Keep up the content as we really enjoy it! Blessing to you and have a great week!
Hello and greetings from Sweden! Good work there saving this old mower and yes since many new mowers these days comes with bad and cheap parts it is these old ones to have :)
I'm with you I absolutely hate John Deere though because I live in Iowa and people that own John Deere seem to think that they're ridiculously awesome If it ain't red leave it in the shed! Lol 1:35
I had a 111 back in early 2000's and whoever bought it before me it was bought at a John Deere dealer and it originally came with a 11hp briggs on it and I think I had either the later model cause my gas tank was in the back now when I think about it I think it was an 84 or 85. I lived in Missouri and had about 2 acres to mow and I had to to some repairs on it and after the repairs it worked awesome I wish I would have kept it.
It's a "jump pack" i made with a U1 battery. It has a connector for straight battery feed and a connector with my winch controller. I'll go over it in another video here soon. Thanks for watching!
My dad had a 111 years ago. Bought it out of a junk pile for $100. Mowed with it for an entire season smoking like a freight train and then had the engine rebuilt. Miss that mower. Only reason we got rid of it is because the deck rusted out completely.
I had a 111 20 plus years ago and once I fixed it up it ran awesome and I had a pretty big property maybe a little too big for the mower but it handled it like it was nothing especially in certain areas where I had really thick and long grass and it only had a 11hp briggs on it.
My ex wifes uncle had a old Craftsman in his barn, I asked him one day what he was going to do with it, he said he had a job I could do for it, so I did, tied it to the ball on my bumper and drug it home, after putting 4 tires on it cleaned the carb, put new plug and condenser on new gas after cleaning the tank, started it up and drove it to his house, he was shocked to see it running again.
in all my years of messing with small engines ive only seen 3 american made sparks plugs fail where the spark plug failed without an egine problem the chinese spark plugs however ive had 4 of them fail in 6 different motors i think the longest lasting one was in a pressure washer it lasted about 45 maybe 50 hours before it failed all the others failed in less than 20 hours now when i buy some chinese gasoline powered whatver the first thing i do is change the spark plug and inspect the air filter if it looks junky i change it
you should feel special to work on the BESR LAWN TRACTOR EVER MADE i have a lot of brands in the pass 50 years and to me john deere qas and is the best ever
I wondered that ! Everything I looked up said it should have an 11hp and as you saw it was a 12hp. But I will say that the parts I ordered were looked up using the serial number on the engine itself.
magneto: i had the same thing happen to me. No spark, turned it over, worked just fine those chinkety chinese carbs can drive you crazy. but what do you expect for a nickel?
Absolutely loved this video!
Thanks! Revivals are my favorite thing to do
Love the doxie dog, made himself comfy in the chair at the very end! Watching you work made him tired!

Keeps me out of trouble and if you do it right, the hobby pays for itself!
Great job love the will it run videos. Some how they relax me. Hopefully it can cut grass again soon.
One good thing about working on a Deere is that they do have a loyal following and there will always be a buyer for the old stuff.
This one sold 1 day after listing it. Thanks for watching!

i enjoyed the video as usual. Think I'll have a cold snack too.
That's the spirit!
Straightforward and simple, glad another machine has been saved from the scrap yard.
Thanks for watching!
good job- I have been working on lawn equipment for over 65 years- I maybe 3 times found an engine would not run because of a bad plug
I'm glad im not the only one! Thanks for watching!
i will not work on anything that is newer then 10 years old- this new garbage is garbage@@LaidOffGarage
Getting it running again is a win!😊
Great video - that should be a 1981. I own an 82 and an 85 and I love using them.
It was a neat little tractor for sure!
My brother had one of those there great little mowers

Good save. God bless.
They didn't want the starter to fall off i guess lol
I have an old John Deere X495 diesel lawn mower that is still running great after 20 to 25 years and used every day
My junk yard 111 find , the only thing that was wrong with mine was that valve clips were worn out,and dropped the exhaust valve.
On the plugs me and always sandblasted the end of the plugs and never replaced them
Made it to the newest video…good to see you doing something for once Levi lol
Your comment almost slipped through the cracks but I found it lol!
At 28:37….time for TWO cold snacks
I'm with you I absolutely hate John Deere though because I live in Iowa and people that own John Deere seem to think that they're ridiculously awesome If it ain't red leave it in the shed! Lol 1:35
Shut your up
It’s a damn lawnmower
I had the 116. Blew the engine & had another 18hp to drop in. Pulley swapped it, & it would do 15mph. No brakes, but it was fun to drive.
Now that sounds right up my alley !
Definitely tell an engineer had a hand in it. They made it to where anyone working on it would bust a knuckle to get the starter off
I had the same problem with the steering locking up on my 111 also

4:49 What kind of sorcery jumping Apparatus do you have hooking up there I wanna know more about that thing that looks interesting? Lol

I had this 111 model as a kid in the early 80's i loved it till we moved in 1998
Quality background music.
Choices are limited but I enjoy that one as well lol! Thanks for watching!
Glad you didn't give up on her
If the key doesn't work Try the seat switch !
Don't forget clutch, brake, and possibly PTO switches....Seat switch was long gone on this one. But that is a good tip!
A way to tell the year would be like the numbers that would make most sense on a serial number

That guy liked mowing really tall grass judging by what was under the flywheel cover
Never heard of the 111. Looks like MTD probably made it.
I haven't either but I just assumed it's because I know nothing about John Deere lol!

MTD never made anything Deere. All the newer Deere's are junk.
JUNK yard Deere lives again
lol, are those tires the world famous run flat low profile high performance tires that J D recommends?
I hope thats a good name brand spark plug cause most of those cheap no name plugs you from like amazon don't work
😮

Thats what I like to hear! Thanks for watching!
Make it mow again it's to nice
I thought this was a video from married with small engines lol
lol! I had to go check out their channel and I see exactly what you mean

spelling it not my strong point
Lol! It happens! I'll leave all the John Deeres for you then!
I think the reason that carburetor wasn't right was because that engine has been replaced at some point with a 12-horse from something else
I wondered that ! Everything I looked up said it should have an 11hp and as you saw it was a 12hp. But I will say that the parts I ordered were looked up using the serial number on the engine itself.
Yeah the former owner didn't like taking care of his lawn tractor
What state are you in?
Good ole Hoosier State!
@@LaidOffGarage Too far. lol
I’d buy it if I had the money
Finish the restore and then sell it!
Surprised you can locate parts.
About the only option nowadays are Chinese made replacements. Which is nice because they're cheap, but the quality is sometimes lacking..
You're using the wrong style fuel filter if that carb is gravity fed.
What’s the correct fuel filter look like ?
Gravity fed carbs take the smaller solid color, flatter round pancake style filter.
Sit on the seat!
Seat switch was long gone
Does hipa have any parts not made in china
The carb is from china. Original carb.
Great video but dump the rap
Different strokes for different folks! Thanks for watching !
Why i do not like China. Taiwan at least has served better for me.
John Deere is not for me.I will never own one
This was my first but may not be my last!
HI, THAT CHINESE STUFF CANNOT BE EXACT COPY OTHERWISE THERE IN BREACH INTERNATIOAL PATIENT/COPYWRITE OF PRODUCT
