    Great update guys and excellent first time pointing. Remember the golden rule, ' you can always add water, but you can't take it out!'....C'mon Esse!

    Amazing work. So interesting to see. Like seeing cat and dog visiting neighbors!

    Nice job on the pointing...I've watched many hours and tutorials and you have the knack. Nice to see the healthy foundations...it's a good feeling to know you won't be falling thru the floor. With summer just around the corner, there will be a lot of renovations going on in France. I'm looking forward to yours. Aloha🌺

      It definitely makes a difference. Everything seems much more solid now.

    Your videos are getting better and better. Such a dramatic opening! I love to see you having fun. I imagine #Esse cook stoves will be ever so grateful for the free advertising. 😎

    Esse...dont make me come down there, just give them a dang stove, willya?? Love how you both get so much done! Your new underpinnings are impressive! I have a cast iron tub that I want removed from my old house cuz I am afraid it will wind up in the cellar! Nice pointing job, Karen! Love this series!!

    Nice job on the pointing, I'm sure you know but if not, when you buy the sand and lime individually, buy white sand and lime ( if your after a light colour) and mix them three to one, take the old mortar out to around a min of 2 inches... throw the new mix into the gaps on the end of your trowel... cheers

    Re my previous comment, I hadn't realised you were putting in 2 !

      Good catch, though. The original plan was for one large beam but by using two we were able to support the structure while removing the old beam.

      So true! I (Tim) expect to have lost more than a few kilos by the time it's all through!

    The cantou looks great! Are you leaving it as a focal point, or rebuilding the chimney? It's going to be a lovely home, even if you have to "camp" for awhile!

      Thanks! We'll probably do a stainless steel chimney for the cooker.

    Has Tim figured out his family tree and found where in France his family name is from?

      I think you would have to go pretty far back in my lineage to find any French-ness. I am stereotypical American melting pot: German, English, Greek, and Italian. Karen has relatives in Strasbourg, Germany, and Austria.

    Did you have the I beam size calculated ? It looks a bit light to me ...........

    • @LivingaFrenchLife
      @LivingaFrenchLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. One of those would have been too little support. It made better sense to split the load because the floor joists are not continuous and it made it easier to get the old beam out.
