    Get the bud union flush with the ground level and pull up the tree so the bud union is an inch above soil

    It works better if you pour the fungi into the water that the roots were in for 1 hour. I also plan on planting all my fruit trees in hugelkultur beds and hugelkultur forest floors that are at least 12" high after waiting 6 months for the floor and beds to settle. By then there will be plenty of mycelium colonization throughout the bed and floor as I incorporate plenty of woody materials including wood chips.

    Great instructional video, thank you. Question: I've been told not to fertilize my new five foot Granny Smith Apple trees when I plant them. However, I see you fertilized your tree so I'm wondering whether or not I should fertilze my apple trees when I plant them...?

    I bought a Haven Peach tree from a local nursery. the root ball had almost all the roots trimmed back, and were only about 1 inch long. I planted it anyway, figuring if I keep it moist in good soil with some fresh manure, it "may" restore the root base. But, why in the world would they ever sell a tree with trimmed roots back to almost nothing?

    My leader branch snapped when I was planting the tree - will it be ok?

    • @dustinooley2701
      @dustinooley2701 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short answer is yes, but it depends on where it snapped. Do you have buds on the main trunk below the break? Cut just above the next bud below the break, and that bud can become your leader.

    Ah man don't fertilize a newly planted tree. Great soil you have!

    • @chilleffect
      @chilleffect 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a myth. I fertilize my newly planted trees. You just have to be aware of what you are doing. How much and what kind of fertilizer.

    • @bluetreedog1205

      I've always let them use their roots to seek out goodness in the soil creating a firm root system and later if needed fed if you have reasonable soil and they are well mulched

    I would feed that bone meal to my Red Wiggler worms in their bin. Their castings turn mineral ions into amino acid chelates which trees and plants can absorb.

      Fairchase Outdoors placement of bud union is critical in dwarf rootstock if union is 3 above ground then growth for the tree is poor I've seen this so many times

  • @katehache

    It is confusing how many conflicting opinions there are. I have watched videos where people say you shouldn't cut the roots to fit the hole. It sure is tempting though.

    Worst way of planting a new tree. NEVER fertilise a young tree. You want the tree to focus on developing roots, not growth above ground.
