The Mazda 6 is probably the most perfect family sedan out there. It has all the power you need, class leading fuel economy, great styling and an outstanding amount of features for the money. Now I just wish Mazda made a sky active v6 engine for this car ;)

This car looks better in person because Photos and Videos don't show anything. But Godamn this car looks better in red. Nice curves too lol

knifeyboy82 I am considering the Mazda 6 and the Accord EX-L. For me, pros and cons with both cars. I will have to do test drives and then make a decision. NOT a fan of the CVT but like other things that the Accord offers. For the Mazda, like the reviews on how it handles and looks and some of the features but not a fan of the interior colors and if I want real leather and heated front seats, I have to get the Grand Touring. Not a fan of that and I do not want to have to pay more for all the high tech things, too, that I have no interest in. So, like I said, pros and cons for me on both cars.

I have this in blue! :) love it!!!! It's definitely not underpowered, it's very nimble :) and I love the commander switch. Just sweet looking and great handling :)
Loved your reaction when you pressed the lock button twice, triggering the horn. I find it equally annoying on my car and wish Mazda would tone it down a little. My solution was to enable Walk Away Lock so I don't have to worry about using the keyfob.
The automatic transmission on this car is way better than the manual. This is why I bought this car. I put it on sport mode and I step on the accelerator half way and it goes really fast. I ONLY PUT V power gas.

I have the 2015 Mazda3 five door with the same infotainment system. It's awesome (for the most part). It's kinda slow on first start up especially when changing to Bluetooth, usb, or radio and before the update it would stop working occasionally. I just wish it had more redundancies, like physical buttons to change from AM, FM, XM, and Bluetooth.
NIce video Dave and I cannot wait to see your on-road review of this car. And I will look forward to your review of the new Accord, too, since I am also interested in the EX-L model. But regarding the interior of this Mazda, I am not a fan of that light-colored leather since it will show the dirt too easy.

I just brought one also same color but touring model. The car is great for what it is. I know it will last a long time so I'm happy with it.
The car looked nice for the most part, but to me, the handles sounded cheap and the doors as well when you closed/used them. The MPG is amazing, imagine if they used a CVT!
Let's just hope they don't EVER use a CVT.
Abandoned TN Oh I agree, CVT's are extremely boring. But they should offer a model with a CVT for the consumer that wants to get the best fuel economy they can get in a car of that size.
I drive this exact car and the mpg is a total lie. My average wont move off of 28 and I am a very economical driver

Great to see that analogue instrumental panel instead of that hopeless screen that will end up going out gradually cause of pixel and light death. Too bad this model isn't a hybrid.

I still like Mazda's overall, I do agree I think the HP is lacking on a car that size, it needs to be around 220hp or more imo. The other thing that I don't like is the stereo/ac control panel controls, it just doesn't look very clean. I'm just not a big fan of the Infotainment system setup, I prefer indash mounted setups. However; Mazda makes good dependable cars overall and I think one of the better car's for the buck.
They could've done a little more. Like put storage space next to the back seat cup-holders, make the screen a little bigger, and also make the tailgate actually lift all the way up. Also cooled seats could have been added as an option for a additional price imo. I can understand it if you are looking for a car that looks luxurious but that isn't really at all for a cheap price-tag. Only thing I can't argue with that much is it's great gas mileage, but yet again you are losing power for better mileage. So the sport mode is sort of useless.
+Karly O'Hare The sport mode changes the driving dynamic it's not just about hp . The transmission has a lot to do with how a car responds and feels too. A four cylinder family sedan that goes from zero to sixty in 7.5 seconds is respectable
fhhh Plus the Skyactiv engine loves to rev. Those complaining about lack of power has never driven the Mazda 6. I drive a CX 5 with the same engine and although the CX 5 is heavier than the 6 it never seems flat footed thanks to an engine that loves to be revved and a transmission that loves to downshift
Exactly. I drive my 2.3 (160 horsepower) 2008 Mazda6 very aggressively and I don't generally find it lacking for power. I'm the one doing the passing flying down the interstate. Mazda vehicles are meant to be revved. If you're not beyond 4500 RPM, heading upwards of 6500 RPM, then you're not even trying, nor having any fun.
Such a beautiful car with so much untapped potential. If only the Mazda 6 came with a V6 or V6 turbo and manual transmission in GT trim. I'd buy it in a second.

Nice redo on the interior!
Sat in one. Coming from a car with seat comfort issues. I kinda noticed how the top of the seat bolsters are arched inward which I wonder if will get annoying. Ford is one of few which does a good job of keeping shoulder area flat.
They did that on purpose..... if you're a 'bigger' person... you probably won't find the seats in the newer 6 to be that comfortable. It's just that simple.

The grill on a 2016 grand touring is different than my 2016 touring model. I have to wonder what is left out on my new car still good power, handling and looks.
The main problems with the 2016 Mazda 6:
- Poor fuel economy of 26MPG according to Everyman Driver and TFL Car. That's below the average for this segment.
- Underpowered engine and lack of turbo option.
- No AWD powertrain option.
- Cheap plastics in the interior.
- Gimmicky and (usually) annoying tech features like HUD and lane assist.
David Bennett The biggest turn-off about the 2016 Mazda 6 is the old-looking design.

Dave, did Mazda put LEDs for the interior lighting? I know the headlights are now LED but it appears as if the interior dome lights are as well.
This guy is very handsome! I couldn't even focus on the car, his voice and looks had me distracted. Then I seen the ring on his finger and I snapped back into focus. Aww man, he's off the market. Anyway great review, but I'm thinking I'll go with the Hyundai Sonata.

Dave, you know if the cx5 will get the same interior as this Mazda 6? Since the cx5 has a similar interior to the 2015 Mazda 6
happysean10 Ehh, not 100% correct. The climate controls and audio/infotainment has been updated, but it's still the same basic shape as before.
I really like my 2014 Mazda 6 touring (manual 6 speed). I only have 14,000 miles- is it worth upgrading to a 2016 Mazda 6 touring??? The dealer is sending me all these "deals" for my 2014 and to get into a new 2016....
The main differences between the 2014 and the 2016 relate to lighting, infotainment system and stuff like that. Unless you're a true Mazda fan you're not going to see a lot of exterior differences between the 2014 and the 2016.
Personally, I plan to go for the 2016 when I upgrade to a newer 6 this year. I want the newer infotainment system and the cool LED exterior lighting effects. It's all personal preference though.
No matter what, the 6 is a great car. I've had my 2008 Mazda6 for the past 8 years and I've loved it the whole time. Has been an amazing car for me. Lots of fun to drive too.
Thinking of going with the white leather interior but the maintenance is going to be 10x more work then black. Anyone have suggestions with stain removal or discoloration with white leather if that were to happen which most likely it will since I live in the city...
Get yourself a good leather cleaner/conditioner and stay on top of things. You'll be fine.
I just detailed a newer Cadillac recently (with all white leather interior) and it was trashed due to some dogs having a party in it.... found some good leather cleaner/conditioner and got it looking brand new again just like that.
The big thing is... if you get it stained, deal with it right away. This would be the same advice I would give anyone, irrespective of whether or not they have cloth or leather.

It would probably be best to go with a Mazda3 if you're looking for a first car and money isn't an issue since it's a little bit smaller and has a hatchback version so it will be easier to maneuver.
Is Mazda hurtin' for money that much that they can't offer a larger engine option? Ridiculous! And when the new CX-9 finally comes out next year, it will be the same engine with turbo added. Don't get me wrong, the 2.5 is a very descent engine for its size. It's just not a "balls to the wall" engine like a 3.0 version would be.

my Mazda 6 2009 has hydraulic hinges for the boot. why does the 2016 model have goose neck hinges in the boot?
Looks like Mazda doesn't do it anymore even on the CX 9. That saves some battery and a few seconds. In my opinion, I like it non-automatic
$33K for a 4 cylinder vehicle is too steep. If it were a turbo, maybe.

Oh how "great" is that! Don't tell me they ruined the looks of this car again. It was nice looking prior to the "smiley face" version of 2012-13. And now they get rid of the beautiful sharp looks of the 2014-2015 models.
Umm... the 2016 model looks VERY similar exterior wise to the 2014 model. Unless you're a die-hard Mazda fan you'd be hard pressed to find any significant differences. I fail to understand your point.
