+obsiosiris Since the exclusivity deal with (THQ?) lapsed they have been much more lenient with their licensing policy. I'm under the impression that you don't pay a fee for the right to use the IP, but pay royalties on the sales you make. Hence why everyone is willing to jump on the Warhammer game bandwagon.
I just play it in normal chess mode with the cool cameras switched off. Looks sweet to see the pieces duke it out kind of like Battle Chess from my youth.

i actually love the game, but not a fan of the Regicide mode. I love the basic Classic Chess mode because it reminds me of my classic 486 days with Battle Chess, but with Warhammer

Scrolling through comments, can't see it, so here's some interesting stuff:
The reason behind all the shitty warhammer games coming out is that Games Workshop made the licence free, or basically free, not too long ago, and of course all the niemands jumped on it like flies on turd. Up until recently, they were way more protective (in the case of vidyagames, can't comment on books or movies). Relic Entertainment were one of the few in a while who had a deal with them.
+Zambicus The worst offender was Storm of Vengeance. Warhammer Quest and Death Wing had a horrible microtransaction legacy from its IOS days but the PC incarnations werent that bad. I used to like Heroquest and Space Crusade as a kid so it's probably a nostalgia thing. Warhammer Quest and Deathwing remind me of those games respectively but to be fair they got rid of the microtransactions from them. For cheap (i.e. a fiver, they arent that bad).

What's funny is that if this game was a physical board game I'd buy this
+WillisAwesomeFTW Go grab a cheap chess set, print out some tokens for the different creatures (go cut out circles of cardboard and then glue some pictures onto them), pull out two ten sided dice, and you have a better version of this game.
Imagine, for a couple bucks, you get all of what this game has to offer, minus the faulty RNG, minus the microtransactions, and minus all the other bullshit.
Can you check out Pulsar Lost Colony on Steam? It's a fun little Indie in Early Access and it's best described as a FPS Version of FTL. I think it's good, but it has a steep learning curve. Please consider checking it out, i think it needs more attention. It's 22,99$ on Steam.

I actually like this game quite a bit. But maybe that is because I am used to Warhammer's RNG nature for more than a decade now. And Regicide does combine chess and RNG pretty well in my opinion. You can play regular chess and don't suffer from RNG or try to use the Warhammer mechanics but then have to rely on your dice luck. But I totally understand that most players will get frustrated with this game pretty quickly.
Christ mac, if you thought this RNG was bad cant wait till (and if ofc) you give Bloodbowl 2 a go.

Ironically, the best Warhammer game hasn't been made because it funds the shops. The tabletop. When they transfer that authentically to a computer game then I will be happy. Soulstorm was amazing though.

I liked regicide, call it a bastardisation of chess and warhammer i suppose that's a fair descrpition. Hence the RNG to reflect the dice aspect you see in warhammer. It also puts a bit more emphasis on players to use chess skills. The criticism of the points, account mode etc all valid though. I've had a good laugh playing against friends though.

There are indeed many 40k warhammer games but there are more fantasy games coming this and next year and most of them seem good so far. For example Warhammer Vermintide and Warhammer total war. The Developers who make an warhamer game at least try to do something unique with it :). Recently there was a new warhammer game announced in wich you are exploring the sea's of the fantasy world what has never been seen so far. I actually like there are many different warhammer game's coming out. The one's i like i follow and the one's i dont i ignore.

Whats really shitty is that when the devs were answering questions prior to release they were like yeah we will try and add new factions and things to the game via updates. Now after everyone has bought it they bait and switch with this micro transaction bullshit god I really hate than in new games, if I pay money for a game I dont wanna ever see real money advertisements in the game to unlock parts of the game I should have gotten to start with, absolutely disgusting and shows really how little the devs and publishers think of their players.
To expand I dont mind DLC as long as its worth it but when you know they are making this content alongside the main game only to rip pieces out of the main game and devolve the experience akin to an ad based free mobile game it just makes you feel raped inside. thank god for steam refund these days and fuck them too.

Warhammer 40,000 is dead as a video game franchise unless Dawn of War III comes soon. I recently beat Space Marine, and was bored out of my mind. I have no idea why you and Total Biscuit gave it such a glowing commendation... must be a British thing :p
+Morgannin thosands of people are playing dawn of war soulstorm with the ultimate apocalypse mod. And thousands of people are playing right now the retribution expansion for dow2, you should check both out, specially the ultimate apocalypse, you got a lot of videos on youtube. A warhammer rts can't get a lot better than UA seriously, looks like a product from relic itself, very polished.

And the thing with the shop is exactly what those dlc defenders will never get i am afraid. Without real money shop or dlc you would have all the faction at start or would be able to play them for far far far less time. The design suffers greatly! Every fucking time.
