Been watching these back to back and it's amazing how you have matured along the way as a hiker. Gone is the large group with music, in is a tight bunch with goals to complete long days - very impressive transformation.
2020-12 in the pandemic blues, and I've been enjoying your informational/educational videos. Decided I would check out the "beginnings". It's been a lot of fun seeing your adventures and I'm looking forward to doing a little light backpacking in Spring 2021 on the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin.
There is my very favorite youtube triple crown through-hiker. Dixie, You are an inspiration. I want to hike the Appalaichan trail. I bicycled 35,000 miles through 19 countries. That kept weight off the feet. My only experience long distance walking was a 15 mile forced march on a dry dusty riverbed. Everybody in front of the column breathed clean. Everybody else choked sick with dust. They should have rotated to be fair. That was the army. You are the prettiest, most engaging, intelligent, sharp personality on this medium. You cut an attractive figure. Do it while you are still young. Time brings change.
Osprey Aura 50 AG $ 138... Frog Kids Bath Pool $35... Watching Dixie washing the backpack inside the pool... PRICELESS.... And the cutest moment in H.W. videos...
I donT usally make comments but i wanted so much to tell you i am very sorry that your dog passed. I have three and i know i would be devistated. I wish you luck and who knows mabye one day ill see ya in the woods. You got this Girl. Like a Boss. I wish you all the best Dixie.
Btw., I wish that oneday I could sit with you and your crew and tell y'all just how happy and inspired your adventures make me feel. And Rebel's fam has an awesome looking garden. Keep it up. I can't wait for your next update. Be safe to You and everyone traveling with you. btw., I'm hoping to meet kind people as well when I finally hit the road on my own "adventure" in less than a week and a half. oh, and Dixie, just in case I haven't mentioned, YOU ARE WAY AWESOME! and tell Rigga she has a great smile and you whole Fam is AMAZING! Be safe : )
oh my gosh were you guys line dancing at Hummels!!???? I go there every week! I've been watching your videos and this almost gave me a heart attack! amazing!
ok serious question-big fan by the way. Dixie, where did you get the jeans you're wearing in this vid? were they in a re-supply box? Surely you didn't carry them all the way from GA, right?
Another good tip besides good new shoes for keeping the swelling down in your feet is to lay down with your butt up against a wall or tree or rock to use gravity to get the blood to flow back down to your torso where you need it. Maybe you've learned this now that you're hiking the PCT but I do this every day after working 10 hours on my feet at Amazon! I also like to rub my feet with burt's bees hand salve-- it gives me an excuse to rub my feet, oil to make it easier, and it smells good! Don't know if the packaging is great for hiking... I think it's made out of aluminum, but the salve isn't watery so at least it doesn't have excess water weight! Plus it smells nice and keeps blisters at bay and softens callouses. I think the nickname is something like "a farmer's friend." I usually get it at walgreens in Texas but I'd imagine that any chain drugstore would sell it. Hope your feet are doing well!
Putting feet up is excellent! I'm a cashier and also occasionally do this, on my longer days, as well as when I hike. Darwin on the Trail also does this when he takes a napping break. He'll put his feet up a tree and rest for 20-30min.
Rocksylvania! I hiked from the top of Peter's Mountain to Clarks Ferry (Susquehanna River) and back. About 12 miles. Absolutely horrible hike. Whoever laid out the trail on this leg was a sadist. It is not well-marked. But if you ever get confused, just follow the rocks- because this part is very rocky. So much so, that you really have to watch your footing, and you miss all the scenery. There are 3 very nice vistas on this section. A single one, and a double (on both sides of the mountain). My initial goal was to hike just the Pennsylvania area of the AT but this section totally demoralized me. A 12-mile descent into the bowels of Hell. Trekking poles will make this a much better jaunt (which I did not have).
You and your crew are Awesome! btw., how in the world does someone end up with a nickname Mountain Goat? Does it have anything to do with eating everything in sight or agility in moving amongst rocks, boulders and cliffs?
Hey there Dixie! I have enjoyed following your adventure with "the fam". When u'all finish the trail you and Rebel Yell should get all dressed up in a nice dress and a tux and go to a Ball, and dance, you would be a cute couple. One of the values of the AT is that it is a place to encounter the wild and wilderness. Inherent in that is some degree of physical and mental hardship, but also great joy. I sort of like more of the purist type hikers like Gator Miller, who are out there to encounter the wild. Some of the social aspects can detract from that wild encounter. Sorry about your feet giving you problems, but trail runners are really only for people who are traveling more on the ultralight side. A good pair of lightweight boots offers protection, and prevents injury. Anyway, good luck, wishing you joy on your journey in the wild. Happy trails!
..yeah...guys lose weight, women gain muscle. The problem there is that by intelligence most women can kick a guys butt...now they can kick it physically, too!!...But seriously, the BIIIGGGG problem is like your appetite took a few days to kick in waaayyy back in Gee-orgia??...now when you stop hiking you gotta STOP yourself from eating cuz you now arent doing the miles to work it off and if youre not careful you can wind up the Michelen man...or woman.

I've truly enjoyed watching your journey. It's such a great perspective of the trail. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I'm just guessing but, maybe she was just borrowing the jeans from somebody in this house, while she did her laundry? not sure though.

Not doing to bad for a 'Bama girl in Yankee land ! People are just people where ever you go !
Great video love the closeness of the family's.
What happened to Body Glide?
NICE VIDEO THANKS FRIEND
Where is Dixie now? Wondering if I'm going to cross her path next week going south through CT and NY
did you bump into her on the trail
Nice JP-D name drop there. Were you aware that Scott Jurek ("WebWalker") was making his FKT run during your through?
I'm glad I'm not the only one that associates Sheetz with PA. It was a main food staple in college!
How do you navigate on the trail?
You and your crew are Awesome! btw., how in the world does someone end up with a nickname Mountain Goat? Does it have anything to do with eating everything in sight or agility in moving amongst rocks, boulders and cliffs?
Piroj Muangthong earlier on in the vlogs she said it's because he hikes like a mountain goat. Sorry I'm going back through all her vlogs 😬
Did you see any rattlesnakes? They hunt them in PA.
There was a HUGE rattlesnake on the video prior to this one #23
Auburn is like 20 mins from me

Joe Bletso I'm happy I'm not the only one who thought this. Rebel Yell and Dixie seem really close, and they both always sit and hike together.
Plantar fasciitis by the sound of it
why does the bald guy always have a tie on

Soy
How about a little more AT hiking/camping and less town stuff... 2.5 minutes of hiking out of a 14 minute video.
Are you hiking with your boyfriend?
+Darrell Whitman No sir, she isn't hiking with her boyfriend.
