    We crossed paths in New Jersey (Troop 284 NY) the boys thought it was so cool you mentioned them in your video. Excited to see you in Vermont; I plan on through hiking the Long Trail in 2017.

    Wow, Vermont is beautiful. And when I visited Smokey Mountain Nation Park, I went to a place called Ghost Town In The Sky. To get there we had to ride a chair lift just like that. It was so cool. I love nature and the sights and sounds she makes. The hostel looks cool and you got to meet Thor, Waldo and Cookie.lol :)

      no, not at all. I have been watching your vlogs and then was packing my pack for a hike in the NY catskills and got in the woodstock mood and put on a play list glancing at the videos,
      and then it hit me. lol Why i felt the need to comment on that...... I have no idea.

    I'm planning on hiking the AT this year, and I'm terrified of snakes! Any advice? how to deal with them if there on the path or if i stumble across one?

    • @brithansgen534
      @brithansgen534 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Learn to identify them. Get familiar with them from a distance, first through knowledge. Read about the different types of pet snakes and what they need or how they act. Most snakes are really not dangerous. They like pathways and roads to get warm, because there's usually a break in the trees over a pathway. If you give them enough warning, they will see that they can't eat you and will want to run away - but if you threaten them, they will defend themselves. Dixie does it right when she sees a snake, she gets their attention and then backs off until they are comfortable enough to move along. There really aren't any snakes in the US who would hunt or actively go after something bigger than themselves. They are not stupid, even with pea brains - and aren't going to try to cuddle up to an unknown mammal for warmth, or something bigger than themselves for dinner. Mastering fear is often about knowledge.

  • @TLww4soup

    Your 'aside' commentary on the Yellow Deli folks warmed my heart. To me the fuss is about fear...the trail will wring that out of you after 1600+ miles. I'm not a group think person so it's not for me. But I was taught the golden rule growing up and those folks were non judgemental and kind to me. Your future "hypothetical" kids are fortunate. I didn't eat a restaurant or store bough egg til I went to college. My family was a tight little farming group (no religious affiliations..just remembered the depression) and we looked after and provided for ourselves and our neighbors. I now practice "closed loop" year round indoor/outdoor horticulture and gardening in Oregon. Are you familiar with the "closed loop" concept? I also make my own wild crafted medicines (my father was given an 8 percent chance to live a year from mesothelioma...he skipped chemo and i shipped him my tonics..still do..5 years later!) oh, and his eyesight and blood pressure were "cured" at 78 years old as well. AND youre a college football and peach cobbler fan!!! We must be long lost siblings! Your trip has been inspiring. I used to hike the northern california redwoods and parts (2 years all) of the PCT then tore every ligament in my left knee in a fall....I've been nervous about packing but after watching and listening to your journey ...my gear is being inventoried,, knee brace updated and I will be doing a 5 day Redwoods sachet in 2 weeks. Thanks again for your example and good natured sharing Ms. Jessica. Oh, and GO BUCKEYES *wah wah wah* (at least you're not a Bama fan..they loathe my team :) Happy Trails and if you're ever out west (PCT etc), I'd be happy to provide any supports along the Oregon course you may need. Look forward to checking out what you're doing with microgreens!!! It sounds similar to what I do for "a living"...if you love it, it's not a job. Peace to you and yours.

    Two questions. In terms of the actual hiking, was the North or South end the hardest part? And having done this already, would you recommend going North or South? (As an aside, if you do it again, will you go South next time?)

      The White Mountains in NH are BEASTS. Maine is also no walk in the park. I will always go NOBO. I recommend that for beginners for sure. Going north trains you for what you encounter in the last couple states.

    Hey.. My name is smoke, and I did the A.T last year. By a flip flop. I plan on doing the PCT here very soon. How much water did you carry with you through the desert?
    I can't even comprehend the journey I accomplished. What should I make from the AT. It has been hard for me to relate to anybody now. It's very frustrating.
    What guide did you use for the pct, and by what means did you do getting to the trail head beginning the pct?

    What is the point of hiking during the day if you are just going to have to backtrack to come back to the same hostel at night? Do you skip that portion of trail the next day, or have to hike it again?

    • @PatrickDickey52761
      @PatrickDickey52761 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm guessing they skip that portion the next day. It seems like it's a way to hike the trail, but have a decent place to sleep at night. A change of pace, of sorts.

    • @beccareddish9103
      @beccareddish9103 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Usually "trail miles" are different from miles you'd cover if you drove to the same place. The trail tends to wind and zigzag so you could go 10 miles on the trail but one could drive 3 miles to get to the next road crossing so when people slack pack, the place they're staying is often really not all that far from their intended end of the day hiking-wise. So the next day they'd get a ride back to the place they were picked up the day before!

      Oh please! The Catholic church, the Southern Baptist, Hindu's and all organized religions for that matter are cults. All of them for the most part take new born children and brainwash them before they have any chance to make their own decisions about this universe.

    • @DeMiTriDreams
      @DeMiTriDreams 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Wesley Skinner not exactly.. these people live on communes where every aspect of their lives is controlled and supervised.. you don't get that from just going to church.. I think it's just different levels of being a cult and regular community churches are pretty low on that level.

    What's the difference between a choice and a so called Cult ? I guess it's just a matter of which side of the question your on !!! I was raised on garden food and farm raised meats so I never wondered where our food came from ! I learned how to milk a cow when I was four ( 4 ). Most city kids now days think that meat comes wrapped in plastic from a store ! I feel sorry for them !

    Child Discipline
    “When there is a stubborn child you should shorten the child’s life?”
    Whether is a stubborn child you should shorten the child’s life. It limits the family. - Training up our children in the way they should go
    Yesterday I was down at the river and Yochanan (Haggai’s son) was swimming and I saw that he had stripes on his bottom. I thought that if there were other people there and they saw those marks, they would know that he has a father who loves his him. - Breaking of Bread 7/15/89
    From the cradle to the grave you must discipline your children. From the age of 6 months you would start disciplining them with a rod on the palm of their hands and then you would stop when they are about one year old. From there you would discipline the children with a rod on their buttocks until they submit ….. Elbert Spriggs (Yoneq)
    Our children need to fear the rod. The severity of our discipline should cause them to never want to be disciplined again. Don’t be afraid of your “baby.” That he is going to be more than you can handle if you confront his bad attitudes or deal with his disobedience. For we have no other purpose than to deal with our children… So, take action and “beat the tar out of him.” - Letter from Abel 4/6/85
    The method needs to be controlled, slow and hard. He should never want another wippen (sic) as long as he lives. Elders Meeting 2/11/78
    Reproof gives wisdom to the child. Submission comes only through reverent submission (fear) of the Lord. Execute judgment and draw blood. - Elders Meeting 2/11/78
    A six month old baby can be trained what no means. Lightly use the rod and your hand. When the baby is wiggling when their diaper is changed, spank them to stop wiggling. - Apostolic Workers Meeting 3/16/88
    A man who beats his son frequently will reap the benefits. He will be proud of him among his acquaintances. - Letter from Abel 4/6/85
    Bend his neck and bruise his ribs while he is young. Allow him no independence in childhood, or he will hurt you very deeply. Be strict with your son and persevere if not then you will nurture his insolence.
    - Letter from Abel 4/6/85

    Last VT part. Cool to see it from a different perspective. Thank you. Getting close to the end. Couple more videos to go. Thank you for this series. I’ve enjoyed it. Be part of the greatest love story ever told....
    God Loves YOU.
    He loves YOU soooo much He pays attention to everything you do.
    God Loves YOU soooo much He came down from On High (a place of infinite joy and happiness) to humbly take the form of a Human being. Walk through what it’s like to have to be cared for, eat, work, live.
    He then was wrongfully and painfully tortured, spit on and mocked. He was nailed to a cross and hung there... 9 hours... until His fleshly body gave out.
    He did all of that... just to get closer to YOU.
    God Loves you soooo much.
    But do YOU Love HIM?
    Admit to God that you’ve done bad things in your life. Things you can never take back. Admit to God you’ve thought things you know you shouldn’t have. Admit to God that you’ve said somethings you know you shouldn’t have. Admit to God you’ve done somethings you know were wrong. Admit to God that you have hurt people. Admit to God that you have done things that you know are wrong and you don’t have the power to make it right.
    Confess that Jesus Christ is God. That He walked among us as the Christ sent by God to bring us back to Him.
    Profess Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.
    Get baptized by full immersion in water. Die to your old self and be reborn.
    Pray to God for wisdom and Truth.
    Receive the Holy Spirit.
    Trust the Holy Spirit that will dwell in YOU and Listen to nothing else.
    May God Bless You and keep you safe.

      Cults always treat potential new members well. There's a reason why they have a hostel open to basically homeless young people who don't know much about the world. These naive hikers are prime recruiting for them.
