The ring is from Viserys’ wife, Aemma. He kinda sees his wife when he sees Rhaenyra, but now Rhaenyra left so he’s all alone. That’s probably why he looked sad and kissed the ring.

Yes, many people say he's weak. His real weakness is he's really just a kind family man not fit for all the political machinations that a king has to bear the responsibility for.

@butera grande Nice, I didn't think about that. I recognize the ring and the sadness about his first wife but not linked it to the left of Rhaenyra and he clearly has a dear love for her because he loved his wife 🥲

@@peepinR I really like Viserys but he is weak and stupid and a spoiled brat sometimes.
First he clearly force Aemma for the C-section. After, and especially after the baby death, he is sad and full of remorses but he still do that to the women he loved.
Daemon, in the same situation, asks if his wife will survive and not the child, as Viserys does with Aemma. Besides, Daemon seems to say no to the doctor for the procedure. But Laenna chooses her death herself and it is also a victory for Aemma.
Then, he gets manipulated by Otto to such an extent that it's heartbreaking. He is completely immature because after naming Rhaenyra as heiress he should have either never remarried or married Laenna. He could never touch her and never impregnate her. He could clearly wait until she was at least older, no one would blame him. Not having heirs would only have stabilized Rhaenyra so might as well marry the kid with the perfect political alliance.
Instead, marrying his daughter's friend, seriously what a jerk. We're talking about Alice acting behind Rhaenyra's back, but her father consoling himself with his daughter's best friend? A brat's whim, there is no other reason for this choice. She was only a child manipulated by her father but he was an adult and the king.
In the 4th episode I wanted to hit him. Calling Alicent in the middle of the night to get laid without even seeming disturbed that the young girl seems to be looking at the ceiling, clearly not taking any pleasure...... Ok it's the king, marital duty etc but the fact that it seems completely not caring that Alicent did not react disturbed me much more than uncle Daemon who teaches Rhaenyra that sex can and should be a pleasure 😅🤣 Well, he didn't need to show her off in real life but they're Targaryens and they've been married as siblings since even before Aegon the Conqueror. Viserys and Daemon's parents were siblings from memory.
All of these decisions are stupid. He let Otto separate him from his brother who was far from the worst Targaryen in the world and who clearly could have calmed down if he had been smarter with him.
He should have accepted Daemon's marriage proposal. His marriage had clearly not been consummated and could have been annulled. He probably didn't even ask his daughter if she wanted to marry Daemon which was a perfect proposition for a Targaryen queen. Nope !! They prefer to marry her by force to her cousin, who is clearly gay, asking her to start making lots of little heirs!!! The worst is that we are surprised that Rhaenyra made them elsewhere .......
Anyway, Viserys is actually a complete disaster but the actor is so great that we forgive him.
Everything dramatic that going to happen will be, in most part, his fault.

Fun fact: Vhagar (Laenas dragon) is the last of the three og dragons from Aegon's conquest. His older sister-wife Visenia rode Vhagar during that time. (Aegon rode Balerion and his second sister-wife Rhaenys rode Meraxes but both of those dragons are dead already) So Vhagar is a pretty big deal in this show... It's so cool that we can see her alive 😊

If he didn't press the king to name Rhaenyra as heir, and continued with his plan to get the king married to Alicent, the moment Aegon was born he would automatically be heir. But Otto is a reactionary fool and his daughter is the same. They are petty and short sighted. Had Otto not been driven by his petty resentment towards Daemon, he wouldn't have suggested Viserys name Rhaenyra as heir, he would have just passed on the "heir for a day" comment and been rid of Daemon. It was an overreaction to get Viserys to name Rhaenyra as heir.

Only Viserys' daughter Rhaenyra's kids (here Jacaerys and Lucerys Valeryon) are his grandkids while his wife Alicent's (here Aegon and Aemond Targaryen) are in fact his direct kids (and thus Rhaenyra's step-brothers), even though they are all of similar young age.

Laena overheard Daemon talking to the maester about the C-section. She knew what happened to Queen Aemma in episode 1. She refused to die at the hands of men. She knew that both she & the baby were doomed so she chose to have Vhagar give her the death she wanted. Vhagar, having lost so many riders already, was so hesitant to do it because she didn't want to be alone & rider less once again. But Vhagar is also a female dragon & can empathize with Laena. Once she realized what Leana was feeling & the horrible painful death that awaited her (dying in childbirth), Vhagar gave her the mercy of a quick death by dragon fire.

And interestingly despite being a way more chaotic person and prone to violence and rash decisions than his brother, Daemon actually says no to the C section which I thought was interesting
Though they should have done a better job explaining that the baby was dead (stillborn) and Laena was going to die in a few hours and there was nothing they could do, and included the scene with Daemon and his daughters

7:58 , There are 2 ways to bond to a dragon I heard.
    1) They place the dragon egg in the crib of the baby, if they hatch they're usually bonded at birth.
    2) if the egg doesn't hatch in the crib, The Targaryen must CLAIM the Dragon on his / her own to become it's rider. It may be any dragon, Old or young. For example: VHAGAR (she dragon) is 140+ yrs Old , was not born to Laena she had to claim it, VHAGARs previous rider was Daemon & Viserys' Father Baelon "the brave" (King Jaehaerys 2nd son). Laena had to Claim it by bonding with it when it was already huge.

Laena's death is slightly different in the book. It is glossed over. The birth starts to go sideways, and all it says is that she tried to ride her dragon one last time. The baby also dies during the brith. I actually like the way they handled it in the show. I like that it was Laena's choice, and I like that Daemon has a micro shake of his head when the maester says Laena won't survive. It shows he would have made a different choice to Viserys, without him saying a word.

Pregnancy's are brutal... Shout out to all the women who have done it and more than once. Now Queen Aemma vs Lady Laena pregnancy's death scene, when it happened to the Queen King Viserys asked if the "BABY" would survive but Daemon asked if the "MOTHER/Laena" would survive... Oohh! Daemon was going to try an save Laena but Laena knew that both her and the baby were going to die and she made "HER" choice, A Dragon Riders Death. Alicent's daughter, Helaena, becomes a dragon rider later. In fact, she will end up being Dreamfyre's rider, that's the adult female dragon that scared young Aemond in the dragon pit. Not all those who have the ability to connect with dragons do so in childhood. Many of them, like Laena Velaryon didn't bond with their dragons until they were teenagers or young adults (like Jon Snow & Rhaegal). Only one of Laena's twin girls has a dragon, the other is still trying to get the egg that was placed in her cradle to finally hatch. That's when Laena tells her daughter, Rhaena, that she was 15 years old before she found & rode Vhagar for the first time. That is something I wish the show creators had included within that 10 year time jump. Where did Laena go to find Vhagar? What was the process of her riding Vhagar & "taming" her? That would have been so cool to see considering how gigantic the she-dragon is compared to the younger dragons in the show. Vhagar is the oldest & biggest dragon still alive & will have several riders over the course of her long life.
So the scene with the 4 boys in the dragon pit, Aegon & his two "half nephews" (Rhaenyra's dark haired sons) all have their own dragons, but Aemond (Alicent's 2nd boy) doesn't. This is why they tease & bully him because he never bonded with the egg that was placed inside his crib when he was a baby/toddler... Alicent has a 3rd son named Daeron, but he hasn't been introduced yet. Alicent's kids are Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond, & Daeron. Rhaenyra has 3 kids so far - Jacaerys, Lucaerys, & Joffrey Velaryon. Even though Alicent's kids have the last name Targaryen after their dad, they are dressed in green to represent Alicent's house instead of the red/black (which will eventually become Rhaenyra's colors). Right now, Jace & Luc are dressed in blue for House Velaryon becasue they go by that last name (for now).

    *DAEMON'S* *BOOK* *VS.* *TV* *EVENTS*
    *SPOILERS* *AHEAD*
"Viserys's first wife, Aemma Arryn, died birthing Baelon Targaryen, Viserys' second son, the first having died in the cradle. Baelon died a day after his birth, however. Daemon was observed in a brothel in the Street of Silk making drunken japes about the "heir for a day". When word of this reached the grieving Viserys, the enraged king had Rhaenyra declared heir and Princess of Dragonstone in response to his ungrateful brother's apathy. The furious Daemon resigned from the gold cloaks and flew with Mysaria on Caraxes to Dragonstone, and so was not present for Rhaenyra's ceremony in the Red Keep."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 1: Book accurate except we never really see and hear Daemon say, "heir for a day". And perhaps he said it and it was taken out of context?
    _
"Living on Dragonstone, Daemon impregnated his lover, Mysaria. He wanted to present her with a dragon egg, but the angry Viserys demanded that Daemon return the egg and return to Rhea in the Vale. Daemon sent Mysaria to Lys, but Mysaria's ship sailed through a storm in the narrow sea and Mysaria lost the child. This hardened Daemon against his brother."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 2: Daemon does steal an egg but to get Viserys'attention to speak to him and Mysaria never got pregnant.
    _
"In 106 AC, Daemon and Corlys Velaryon, Lord of the Tides, allied together for a private war for the Stepstones, with Daemon desiring his own kingdom and Corlys wanting to rid the Stepstones of rule by the Triarchy. While Corlys provided the Velaryon fleet, Daemon flew on his dragon, Caraxes, and led an army of adventurers and second sons."
"Daemon made many enemies from Lys, Myr, and Tyrosh, and he slew Craghas Drahar in 108 AC. After conquering all but two of the islands, Daemon declared himself King of the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea in 109 AC, being crowned by Corlys the Sea Snake. The Triarchy launched a massive fleet under Racallio Ryndoon to retake the isles, and Dorne joined the alliance against Daemon."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 3: This pretty much happened in the show. Just had Daemon losing the war after 3 years. Then added battle scenes that weren't written in the book. In Episode 6, they even mention the Tyroshi captain allying himself to Dorne.
    _
"Septon Eustace alleged that Daemon had seduced Rhaenyra, taking her maidenhood prior to her sixteenth name day, and that the two had been found by Ser Arryk Cargyll of the Kingsguard. Eustace's tale has Rhaenyra expressing her love for Daemon. The notorious Mushroom instead claimed that Daemon had been providing explicit lessons to the girl in how to seduce her champion, Ser Criston Cole of the Kingsguard, whom the girl was supposedly in love with. When Rhaenyra approached Criston, however, he spurned her. Lyonel Strong, Lord of Harrenhal, counseled the livid Viserys that Daemon should be executed for treason. Eustace, however, reminded the council about the taint of kinslaying, and Daemon was exiled instead. Daemon returned to Bloodstone in the Stepstones and resumed his struggle over his barren kingdom."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 4: Daemon seduces Rhaenyra who then seduces Criston and Criston doesn't reject her unlike in the books. There is no Septon Eustace or Mushroom giving these accounts. But Mushroom's account was more accurate to what was shown on TV.
    _
"In 115 AC, while she was hawking in the Vale, Lady Rhea fell from her horse and cracked her skull upon a stone. She lingered for nine days before finally feeling well enough to leave her bed, only to collapse and die within an hour of rising.
Upon learning of Rhea's death, Prince Daemon flew from Bloodstone to put his wife to rest. After arriving in the Vale, however, he claimed the lands, castles, and incomes of House Royce. Runestone passed to a nephew of Lady Rhea, however, and Daemon's claim was dismissed by Lady Jeyne Arryn, who warned him that he was unwelcome in the Vale."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 5: Rhea Royce did die from falling from a horse but it's implied that Daemon kills her with the stone.
    _
"Daemon abandoned the Stepstones and flew to the Vale of Arryn to claim Runestone, which had been Rhea's seat, but he was refused by House Royce. Sent away from the Vale by Lady Jeyne Arryn, Daemon turned to Driftmark, where he laid eyes upon the enchanting Laena Velaryon, the daughter of his friend, Lord Corlys, and he asked the Sea Snake for her hand in marriage. Laena was already betrothed to the son of a late Sealord of Braavos, but Daemon killed the Braavosi with Dark Sister in a duel. While singers say Daemon fell in love with Laena at first sight, others state Daemon married into mighty House Velaryon to check his own descent from power, as he had been pushed far down the line of succession and made many enemies in his adventures."
"Because the marriage had been without consent of King Viserys I Targaryen, Daemon and Laena left Westeros for Essos. Mushroom claims the pair went to the ruins of Valyria, but more reliable sources indicate they toured the Free Cities, visiting Pentos, Volantis, Qohor, and Norvos. They returned for some time to Pentos, where they learned that Laena was pregnant, causing their daughters Baela and Rhaena to be born there in 116 AC."
"When the twins were half a year old, the family returned to Driftmark. Daemon wrote his brother begging leave to present his daughters to court to receive a royal blessing. The small council advised the king to refuse, but Viserys told Grand Maester Mellos, "Daemon is a father now. He will have changed."
"Viserys' daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, was wed to Laena's brother, Ser Laenor Velaryon. While Rhaenrya disliked her stepmother, Queen Alicent Hightower, she became fond of Laena, and the two often flew together on their dragons. With the blessing of King Viserys, Rhaenyra betrothed her two eldest sons, Jacaerys and Lucerys Velaryon, to Baela and Rhaena."
"Laena died in 120 AC, the Year of the Red Spring, trying to birth a son who died as well."
"Harwin died in a fire at Harrenhal that same year, with it also killing his father, Lord Lyonel Strong. The fire was said to be an accident and blamed on the curse of Harrenhal. Other non-mystical suspects included Prince Daemon Targaryen, whose motive would have been eliminating a rival for Princess Rhaenyra's affections; Lord Corlys Velaryon, as revenge for Harwin cuckolding his son; Harwin's brother, Larys, to claim the inheritance of Harrenhal; and King Viserys I, to eliminate the man who brought dishonor on his House."
What happened in the TV show/Episode 6: Most of the events with Laena did happen. Or whatever events were shown since it was a 10-year time jump. Harwin and Lyonel did die in a fire at Harrenhal but if was no accident or curse. Larys was the perpetrator. Neither Daemon or Corlys were involved.
    _
*According* *to* *Mushroom,* Qarl had killed Laenor on behalf of Prince Daemon Targaryen, although there was no shred of proof for this.
What happens in the TV show/Episode 7: ?????????
My guess is Daemon won't be the one ordering Laenor killed as I believe Laenor will die in the next episode by his newest boyfriend. The one Rhaenyra asked to bring. There is no Mushroom in the TV show unless we assume it's the imp we saw in the Green Wedding for about 2 seconds.
Even if that's Mushroom, he had no shred of proof from the book that Daemon had Laenor killed since he's friends with his father and fought alongside Laenor in the Stepstones. Laenor actually saves Daemon's life on Seasmoke.

I think Alicent never realized how power hungry Larys is. I think she saw him as a master of whispers and that’s it, which of course means valuable information for Alicent. My question is when he says “you’ll reward me” what reward does he want that Alicent can give? I would think having private dinners with the queen is enough but clearly not

Alicent could turn in Larys now but he was banking on one thing - who are Alicent's allies at court? In the last episode he revealed he knew she doesn't have many friends. Now Alicent only has Ser Criston and Larys himself to confide in, she's unlikely to undermine that relationship and I think Larys knows it.

Pay close attention to what Helena says and it's very important,I wish they had shown us more about Harwin and Laena that watching the series for the agent feels more pain when the characters die, so when I saw the two characters die I was sad for the death of the two but not to the point of crying for them two characters, you know,I think the writers didn't want to show too much of the two characters for a simple reason and because they probably don't think it's important to the story
When Laena says she wants her husband back what she married is true because the daemon is depressed and just realizing that he just stays at home reading a book and not sleeping well the daemon gets depressed he misses Viserys and Rhaenyra just that he doesn't want to see them, the daemon that we know he doesn't see and so
The Daemon had spoken no with his head but still Laena died and sad I prefer what they did in the series than the book in the book she loses the baby then she gets depressed then one night she decides to go to her dragon but on the way she falls down the stairs and dies so I prefer it in the series and more exciting because we see her bond with the dragon,Daemon loved his wife so much that he made no sign, he loves her and his daughters only the writers don't show it anymore in the book asa de fire and blood that he loves his daughters and his wife the most Unfortunately the writers prefer not to show it had two deleted scenes one and the daemon hugging his daughters already the other deleted scene and the daemon sending his daughters to the bedroom because they were seeing their mother in the fourth trying to have the baby that's why the daemon arrives at the time of Laena's death and couldn't prevent her death
A curiosity for those who watched Doctor Who, this actor who plays Aegon he is the son of David Tennant, he is David he has worked with Matt both have been Doctor Who and now Matt is working with the son of David Tennant
I recommend you watch Doctor Who is very good this series if I'm not mistaken it has 13 seasons it's very worth watching I recommend you watch Doctor Who

[No Spoilers here] In the books, Leana gives a birth to a deformed baby, is dead and she was most certainly going to die by blood lose but she wanted to ride vaghar a last time and she was walking towards her, but died while walking down the steps, and deamon carried her to her bed which is quite different here, but i would like to think when the maestor said, the child will not come which i mean he's saying that the infant is dead, and deamon didn't chose to cut her like her brother did and Leana jst took on her hands to die like that. (I'm no expert, but if the scene was like the child was born dead, leana is devastated and she knows that she's gonna die aswell and same scene as she tells vaghar to kill her or die while riding her would have been better ig) cause most viewers get thrown when she just wanted to die with her unborn baby which is not quite clearly says it's dead. That's all, great reaction as always.

21:38 That's wholesome, but Rhaenyra wasn't actually trying to repair their friendship. Just a few moments ago she kept on antagonizing Alicent by rebutting everything that she was saying. The marriage proposal between Rhaenyra's son and Alicent's daughter was made out of self interest. Rhaenyra knows that most people now know that her sons are bastards, and her eldest son is the next in line for the throne after her. So, to strengthen her son's position, it would be great for him to marry a true Targaryen. She also knew that Alicent will not agree to this and that will make Alicent appear bad. It was a win-win for Rhaenyra.

They were all born in Valeria. Remember when Leana Valerion was 12 and she was talking to Vaceryes about Vahgar? She ended up riding Vahgar. I told you that you shouldn't get attached to any of these characters and here is the truth. Neither Aegon II or Rhaenyra are worthy to sit on the Iron Throne(Yes I know what happens so do not even try to make up any excuses for them). Also Cole is not wrong when it comes to warfare and children like Jacerys would go into battle at that age during those times. Tho I'm not supporting his brutal training methods but he wasn't wrong and at this point everyone knows that Rhaenyra's children are bastards(it is GOT after all and no secret stays that way forever).
Also Vhagar is a female and is the last of three great dragons of conquest. Vhagar was the youngest out of the three Balerion was the oldest and Mercaxes was the middle. Vhagar found out about her siblings deaths(Balerion died of old age and Mercaxes died from a scorpion bolt to the eye) and Vhagar has had three riders up to this point(Viserya & Baelon Targrayen and Leana Valeryon) and after losing her child Leana wanted to die and wished Vhagar to burn her and Vhagar didn't want to but she granted her rider's wish. Vhagar is Queen of the Dragons. But she has seen more death and she is alone and saddened. The sad thing is that it was the dragons that are the true victims here and when the storm that will be known as the Dance of Dragons comes we will all weep.

    *SPOILERS* *AHEAD*
Blood and Cheese is still quite ahead. I see that happen by Season 2. That's when more viewers will start to HATE Daemon. That's much, much worse than killing his first wife he didn't love and contradicts Daemon becoming a good father. I read another 6-year time jump from Episode 7 to 8. We'll see the adult versions of Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond by Ep 8.
The TV writers are making Daemon look worse than he is. He's now "bisexual" suggesting he's cheating on Laena with a random servant guy. 🤣 Annoying af. Now Marlon Brando was bi and I think he's the greatest actor to ever live. Neil Patrick Harris is straight up gay and I love NPH. But why change this? TV Daemon also showed he isn't a great father like he is in the book.
I just feel if book Daemon is the standard or a 10/10, TV Daemon is like a 8/10. Not quite as great. TV Daemon got one great episode (Ep 3) and now he's becoming worse and worse. It's like he peaked in Ep 3 and now he's becoming a joke or unredeemable because he killed Rhea Royce and that's unforgivable to some viewers. In the book, it never really said he killed his wife.
Wait after Luke dies and Blood and Cheese happens. Daemon and Aemond will look like the two worst characters in the series. The Dance practically ends after they kill each other although even Matt Smith said recently we don't really know if Daemon died? No body of him was ever found. It's still open-ended.
I guess GRRM left it like that to leave the HOT D finale open enough to be altered. Wouldn't it be cool if Daemon does live at the end like Bruce Wayne after The Dark Knight Rises? Live quietly back in Pentos with Nettles? Perhaps he's the one to poison Aegon II to avenge Rhaenyra's death so his Aegon III can rule the throne? We'll see. But so far, I feel a tad disappointed by how he's shown for TV.
I shouldn't be surprised at all. Book versions of Jon, Dany, and Stannis I've heard are way better. If Daemon got it bad, I think Criston Cole got much worse. He is more of a bad*ss in the book and they just made him on TV look like an idiot, simp, and c*nt. TV writers basically ruined who I believe is the best character in GOT in Jaime Lannister with that weak S8E5 of him dying from a pile of bricks next to Cersei. If TV writers can ruin Jaime, they can ruin Daemon too.
IMO, I believe Daemon Targaryen and Jaime Lannister are the two greatest characters from GOT/HOT D. They're not just my top 2 favs but they're the GOATs of their respected TV shows. I prefer the more complicated characters. The torn souls. These are real deep characters dealing with all kinds of emotions and we feel all kinds of emotions for them. The ones I can love and hate but I'm still rooting for to find their peace.
I prefer the redemption stories. Like I prefer Anakin's redemption (OG Trilogy) over his fall from grace (Prequels). I prefer seeing happiness for a "bad" character at the end than a good guy/Gary Stu character getting another happy finale that we can see a mile away. The bad characters who can turn good at the end are the more fascinating stories to watch. It's like watching the ending to The Shawshank Redemption.
Never forget how much so many of us HATED Jaime in S1 and S2. Then by S3E3 when he heard Brienne was going to get gang raped, we watch Jaime needing to tell a lie to save her. That's the moment when we realized there was way more to Jaime than the d*uche who hated Ned in S1. We realize we were wrong about Jaime. He was only misunderstood and that he was a good man. Well, until he went back to Cersei in S8E5. SMH.
Even though Matt Smith isn't as handsome as Nicolaj, Daemon does seem more charismatic and likeable to viewers than how Jaime was in S1 and S2. Jaime was universally reviled early on while Daemon is universally praised. I just hope Daemon doesn't get ruined at the end by TV writers like Jaime did. Another popular character from the book getting ruined by HBO who only want to show how evil Daemon is when book fans know he is a lot more than that.
Then again, we must remember this isn't Disney. This isn't some cartoon. GOT/HOT D are not the type of shows to feel good. It's tragedy full of tragic characters. Look at the main character Rhaenyra. Look at her aliases as a queen. They're all derogatory. I guess if we want to root for the Mary Sues and Gary Stus with the feel-good stories and happy endings, this is the wrong show for us. Just when we see Daemon trying to live a domesticated and happy life, Laena dies. Just when we think it's going good, it goes bad.

The show is way better after the time jump because that’s when the main story begins. The first 5 episodes were backstory. These actresses will be our Rhaenyra and Alicent for the rest of the series so get over it.

    First off, love your reaction.
Alicent had anxiety issues visible since the first episode (fingernail picking) and they have sporadically gotten worse as the show progressed. As far as she is concerned she is completely alone in court. Her paranoia has grown after looking at each of Rhaenyra's kids not looking like Laenor at all and people choosing to dismiss it because the King does. Her allies are a bitter knight who acts more like a thug (Ser Criston) who cannot help her at all politically and a quiet dude who even though is an effective spymaster (Larys) has no political power base since his dad (Lyonel) protects his brother (Harwin). Her kids are a teenager who would be into porn and video games if they existed (Aegon), a bitter kid who is goaded into doing stupid things (Aemond), and a girl who is wholly uninterested in lady pursuits (Helaena). She is so frustrated that everyone just chooses to ignore Rhaenyra's transgressions while she has done everything by the book and goes ignored. Still, she tries to do things by the book, insisting that honor and decency will prevail. Alicent is also deeply religious as well and the Faith of the Seven (GoT's version of the Catholic Church) condemns bastardy in every way possible (hence why in your reaction to GoT Jon Snow is always frowned upon), so Alicent is even more furious because Rhaenyra commits blasphemy and gets away with it because she is the heir and she DARES to suggest that her lawful daughter marry a bastard even though that would be the best political compromise to ensure her kid's safety. She is just so angry that Rhaenyra is allowed to get away with all this SHE FAILS TO SEE that this is the best outcome for her kids.
As for Rhaenyra, she may have matured as you say but she is also terrified as well. I see many people calling Alicent out for wanting to see the child at birth but she never said that Rhaenrya should come. Rhae is just as terrified of Alicent as she is of her. Rhae wants to be near every time Alicent and Viserys speak of anything because Viserys listens to Alicent's council. Her arrangement with Laenor in episode 5 was "let us have one kid then we can do what we want" but it's clear that none of the kids look like Laenor at ALL. Westeros is deeply religious and all it takes is one lord saying the wrong thing at the wrong time for it all to explode. Remember, there has not been a war within Westeros for decades and there are many people and houses who are looking for a fight (the Brackens and Blackwoods), the legitimacy of RHaenyra's kids being contested with accusations of Bastardy would be enough for many for it to be a war. Rhaenyra knows this deep down and sought to compromise because after Harwin's actions it was confirmed by many nobles present that those were STRONG BOYS. Marrying Helaena to Jace would quell the rumors and secure the position of Rhaenyra's kids. Her decision to leave for Dragonstone is based on protecting her kids from the Rumors spreading in the capital. from a motherly perspective, this is a good decision but politically it is terrible since it allows Alicent to have more influence in the politics of the realm. Do not forget that Otto is gonna come back and with no one to contest him directly it will make things a lot worse for Rhaenyra's camp.
The Strongs are also in an awkward position. Lyonel loves his son so much that he knows that he is compromised. He got his position at the hand of the King because of his impartial advice. the council scene shows us how that reputation is now in shambles because every time he agrees with Rhaenyra on anything it will be seen as clear favoritism due to his son's intimate relationship with her. Lyonel knows he is pretty much looked at as Otto was, a man favoring his kin over the matters of the realm. so he tries to resign because it is an Honorable thing to do, but Viserys refuses. Larys is still a mystery and I end up with more questions. He sees how alone Alicent is and how desperate she is becoming and proceeds to hit three birds with one stone. by killing his father and brother he does not just allow Otto to return but he also installs himself as Lord of Harrenhal, a powerful political position from which he could help Alicent further (Harrenhal, despite being a ruined castle, has vast lands and riches to it). the third thing is that he places himself in a position where he can't be fired by Alicent because if he is accused by her (Only she knows and only she can do anything to him) all he has to say is " the Queen wished it LOL" and Alicent loses her power as well. I hope there is something else than just "I want power" trope that we have yet to see.
The weakest plotline in my opinion is the Laena and Daemon plotline. Daemon loves Laena but he feels aimless and is wasting away. Even though he wants to be with Rhaenyra deep down he knows his presence only causes more problems. We are also shown his main character flaw; his pride and ego regarding his Valyrian Bloodline. He teaches his daughter Baena (who has a dragon) Valyrian and spends time with her while her other daughter is ignored. Laena sees this and despite her efforts Daemon still ignores her. The status quo is broken with Laena’s death. I think what many miss the point about Laena’s death is that by killing herself, Vhaegar has no rider and the potential exists for her dragonless daughter to inherit the largest of them all. She did not just for her “dragon rider’s death” but for her daughter.
The episode's message overall is in Larys' final speech. that our kids and the love we have for them are our downfalls:
Rhaenyra's love for her children makes her abandon the capital, giving Alicent's faction more power.
Alicent's love for her kids prevents her from seeing the best option for their safety and has her stuck with a very scary person.
Lyonel's love of Harwin compromised his position as an impartial advisor.
Laena's love for her daughters led to her being willing to commit suicide by dragon.
Viserys' love for Rhaenyra leads the country into a state of war.
