No, Viserys is definitely gone. Since you use subtitles like I do, once the episode proper starts, click on the subtitle settings and select "English CC" instead of "English". They are a little more verbose, accurate, and they include descriptions of certain sounds. In this case, right after Viserys said "My love." mine was followed with (breathing stops).

Apparently the scene where Daemon picks up Viserys Crown was improvised, it was never supposed to even fall but Matt Smith improvised to pick it up for him and him and Paddy never broke character and they walked up for Daemon to crown him and the directors kept it. Great actors understand the characters they play …Salute to Matt and especially Paddy this episode👏🏾👏🏾 👑
Slight correction: It fell off Paddy during rehearsal, Matt picked it up and put it on Paddy's head and everyone was like "that's a good idea", then they changed it and re-filmed properly it with Viserys dropping the crown. So it's not the actual blooper/ad lib we see on screen, but it's cool none the less.

Great reaction!! A couple things I'd add: 1) I think Rhaenyra and Alicent actually were being sincere. From Rhaenyra's perspective, she is now realizing just how sick her father has been and how she hasn't been there for him - but all along, Alicent has. From Alicent's perspective, her scenes with Aegon are key. She judged Rhaenyra for having consensual relationships outside of marriage but now she is having to cover up her married son repeatedly raping servants, which is much worse. She thinks very poorly of Aegon and at this point genuinely believes Rhaenyra would be a better ruler than him. 2) As for Jace dancing with Heleana (Aegon's sister/wife), he probably did want to annoy Aegon - but I think he also was motivated by Heleana's speech about how her husband ignores her. I think Jace was trying to make her feel included and seen in that moment.
Right and it shows alicent truly did believe her children would be in danger if they don’t take the throne and that she believes she could make aegon a great ruler but he’s just not up for it if only aemond was the oldest. They were sincere but ofc viserys final words ignite the war as she feels like now she has to honor him.
I think Alicent know her son aegon cannot deserve throne and also she raised cup to rhaenyra she truly believe that rhaenyra make a good queen but viserys miscommunication happen
At least Aegon ain’t having bastards and trying to pass them off as legitimate. As bad as rape is what Rhaenyra is doing is actually worse because she is destroying entire houses and causing potential war. Aegon would be the type of ruler to do bad things that don’t matter in the long term Rhaenyra is the type that would do things that would ruin things on a long term scale.

Her sons are true Targeryans, which means that they are continuing that line. If her sons marry Baela and Rhaena they are also continuing and even strengthening the Valeyrion line. Corlys and Leanor both are aware of this and decided to consider them blood and wanted them to inherit so it's not like it's just Rhaenyra forcing this on the family as an outsider. What do you think she should have done considering she: a) married Leanor on her father's orders; and b) tried to have children with him but couldn't? She was expected to have children to strengthen her claim and continue her line. She was put in an impossible position in which her only option was to find someone outside her marriage. Alicent was teary-eyed when she was listening to Rhaenyra's apology so I didn't doubt the sincerity at all. *pretty sure all she wanted was acknowledgement of her devotion
The reason for Aemond suddenly losing his composure was because when they served a pig in front of Aemond Luke laughed at. As a child, Aemond was bullied with a pig by Aegon, Jace and Luke. He is still salty about that and losing the eye.
Vizzy T's long ass walk to the throne made me emotional as hell. Daemon helping him the rest of the way legit sent me over the edge. It's crazy how the actors, director, composer, and writers could have such a simple scene make such a huge impact. First time I teared watching GoT since Hodor holding the door.
To be fair , it seems that is more Lucerys who started the fight laughing at Aemon because the pig reminded him when they give him the "dragon". It's too early to tell , but all children seem pretty bad for now , except Jace and maybe Helena. Which I find symbolic that they are the ones dancing together , maybe they are the hope of peace.
That's totally stupid nonsense. Lucerys just chuckled a bit because he remembered that from them growing up. Aemond's reaction is completely out of place. He should have just chuckled along and made peace, but like Alicent earlier he refuses to let go of the past and what has happened, clinging to his own trauma instead of letting it go. It's simply unbelievable bullshit to claim Lucerys started the fight by just chuckling a little. That being said, Aemond wasn't the one who started the fight either. Sure, he started triggering Jace and Luke with the bastard insinuations in return (though judging by his demeanor, it seems like he would have used literally any excuse at that point and was going to do it anyway), but they should have just let it be and let Aemond at least let off some steam that way; by now they should have come to terms with the fact that everyone present there knows, or at least has an extremely strong and correct suspicion that they are indeed bastards, and learned to not react in that way. The one who actually started the fight was Jace; he was the one who threw the first punch.

Aemond got angry at lucerys because 1. Lucerys was the guys who took his eye. 2. He was laughing at him because the pig was right next to him. It reminded him of his brother and Aegon making fun of Aemond with the pig. Calling it a dragon the pink dread.
Viserys was seeing the ring on his hand that belonged to his ex-wife Aemma, in the chapter where she dies he starts seeing that ring a lot and remembering her.

About Laena's daughters being separated - Driftmark and Dragonstone are pretty close, so they could easily visit each other (especially on dragon's back)
You two are the only ones I've seen that realized Viserys thought he was talking to Rhaenyra at the end. Everyone else was confused as to why he was saying all that lol.
Love how protective Rhaenyra is of her children. Crazy that in episode one, she hated the idea of having kids, now here she is, about to have her 6th. Ser Crispin didn't really beat Daemon, he attacked him while his back was turned. Daemon actually beat him in that fight, but like Oberyn, he got cocky.
Dont forget Crispin could have simply run over deamon with his horse after he knocked him down and and deamon pulled the sword. It was courtesy he even fought him on even ground.

Criston Cole, whatever you may think of him, is one of the best fighters in the 7Ks. Criston beat Daemon fair and square in the book. Also Criston absolutely beat him in jousting, which is arguably the most important part of actual medieval combat (lancing on heavy horse).

Alicent definitely was being sincere, she misses her friend, loves her husband and hates the fighting and the stress. The only person from the adult generation that truly cannot bring himself to believe in reconciliation at all is Otto, who forced Alicent into this situation the first place.
I blame Otto the most but I also somewhat blame Jaehaerys the I as well. If it wasn't for the latter choosing Viserys, maybe history would be very different. Of course, given the time period and all, it would still had made a huge mess with or without Jaehaerys. At the end of the day, it still would had left someone bitter or resentful regardless of what choice was made. Someone was going to be pissed.
@@marti9734 I think people mistake her lack of romantic/sexual desire for him as a lack of love. Many people somehow completely miss the genuine care and devotion she has shown him for 21 years (we see her dismissing the servants and bathing him and his wounds as early as episode 4, which Viserys appreciates), and we see it in this episode as well, where you can see genuine worry when he’s walking to the throne, and genuine gentleness and care at the very end, even when no one was around to see it. She’s a complicated character, but I don’t know how some people have developed the idea that she’s some evil snake/Cersei like figure.
@Ali Chaudhry frankly one might say Viserys was too soft for his position, but I would say he was well suited enough to maintain relative peace and prosperity. And if Otto was trully loyale to his king and was really concerned about safety of his daughter and grandchildren he would instruct Alicent to support Rhaenyra's claim to prevent a civil war, because lords of Westeros wouldnt say shit agains Dragon house. So yeah I fully blame Otto because he put everyhting in motion
I think Alicent really did make peace and she probably did think Rhaenyra would be a good queen. She thought it from the very beginning. It was Otto who scared her thinking that Rhaenyra would kill her kids. But, since then she knows how shit Aegon is. She despises him. She basically disowns him. So, she thinks he’s going to be a shit king. But, now because of her misunderstanding and her duty and loyalty to Viserys she thinks she must now place Aegon on the throne. She will not like it but she feels strongly that it was the kings final words so it must be done.

George RR Martin: Kudos to Paddy Considine, for his portrayal of King Viserys, the First of His Name. The character he created for the show is so much more powerful and tragic and fully-fleshed than my own version in FIRE & BLOOD that I am half tempted to go back and rip up those chapters and rewrite the whole history of his reign. Paddy deserves an Emmy for this episode alone. If he doesn’t get one, hey, there’s no justice.
That’s why when people say “the book is always better” that’s not necessarily true. A good actor can give a character layers that you won’t see on the page.

Rhaenyra can’t tell Rhaenys about Laenor. That would make her marriage to Daemon illegitimate, her sons with him bastards and her a criminal. And people would find out if Rhaenys went to Essos or tried to make contact (even just to verify). The risk is too high.
Daemon & Aemond look more like father & son than Viserys & Aemond do - LOL. During that epic stare down between them, their inner thoughts were probably "Geez, it's like I'm looking in the mirror at my younger/older self." Similar features & "don't take no shit" personalities in both the uncle & nephew. During the throne room scene, You can see how Aemond admired the way Daemon handled the disrespect that Vaemond was showing by calling out Rhaenyra & her sons and flat out insulting the King to his face. Oh yeah, he's gonna die now but that was pretty bad ass scene. Ok, well bye-bye Vaemond, it was nice knowing ya... 😵 It's getting difficult keeping all these "aemon" names straight & now we have another Aegon (the younger) to confuse with Alicent's Aegon. I need to start writing all this down, my old brain can't keep up. 😄Plus another little Viserys, but he's just a toddler & old Vis is gone now so... The scene of him fighting to walk on his own to the throne, the bedside scenes with Rhaenyra, & then his death upon seeing Aemma again were so sad. 😢

I think I have to say this but in the little heir tournament that deamon and Sir Criston fought, deamon knocked him down first and then turned his back. Sir criston can’t fck with deamon in a fight and neither can Aemond👀

I think when Helena said "beware the beast beneath the boards", she wS referring to the board on which the king was building the city prototype. As you may noticed there is always some sort of smoke coming out from it. It maybe that tbere is a dragon egg laying there on hot stones or coal.
Nothing is random, Aemond as you recall was bullied heavily, by his older brother Aegon and his nephews who joined in the fun by calling him pig rider. He tried to temper his resentment for the sake of his grandfather by not uttering a single word. and yet whether intentional or not when the roasted pig was presented in from of him, luke couldn't help but giggle at the reference. This pig moment combined with the fact that the little shit that took his eye is laughing is what triggers him to go Daemon lite mode. This isn't to say he isn't a complete sociopath, but he didn't randomly go off on them.
Daemon Targaryen actually loves his brother and you can clearly see it the first episode of the season at Aemma funeral Daemon said to Rhaenyra "Your father needs you more now than he ever has". There was also many times where Viserys exiled him from kings landing and Daemon never lost his cool for his brother. And now in episode 8 where he picks up the crown and help his brother to the throne clearly shows how much respect and love he has for his brother.
Alicent is indeed being sincere here, at this point she hates her son and is kinda okay with Rhaenyra becoming queen. Well, of course, the prophecy is another thing, she misunderstood it and now she must make her son king even against her will because she truly belives that's what kings last wish was. Also, in episode 3 Viserys mentioned to Alicent his dream of his son Aegon wearing crown, he was uncertain about naming Rhaenyra an heir at that time.
Also lets be real she also wants it to be true. Even if she sided with Rhaenyra... do you think her father would have stopped?? Yeahhhhh sure. What about her children then? She might hate Aegon BUT he is still her kid... she loves them and wants to protect them. She is in a SHIT situation, theres NO WIN for her

Man, talk about some acting! Paddy crushed it. If he doesn’t get some love at one of the awards shows for his portrayal of Viserys Targaryen it’ll be a freaking travesty. Visersrys sucking up the pain to sit the throne for his daughter was a total legendary move. I know even the most stoic people in the crowd were moved by that scene. So powerful. Plus Daemon helping Viserys at the foot of the throne on the stairs was such a moving & emotional moment as well. Madison was adorable as this episode was just a tear jerker for her. I love that Christian & Madison really suspend their disbelief & really get into it. Good art whether its something like painting or acting is meant to & should stir the soul. I’ve never understood those people who never get moved by powerful works like emotional songs or movies; it’s like they have no soul. You guys are a cute couple & it’s nice seeing how supportive that you are of each other in your reaction videos. Anyway, Paddy & Matt have been total bosses in their roles. Thrones was the groundbreaker & had more sprawl & more characters but Dragon keeps us focus on just a few families in fewer locations so it’s tighter & more focused on specific characters which drives the show more than the action, battles or dragons. I think that’s one of the big reasons for it’s success. The characters in all their nuance, complexities & ambivalent natures are all relatable & multilayered that they drive the show. Plus these actors even all the kids who seamlessly acted as characters at certain stages & ages knocked it out of the park. Thrones had some excellent actors but I think the likes of Paddy & Matt raised the bar a bit as they’ve been the focus of so much of the story & Season 1. I’d argue the acting might be some of the best we’ve seen in either series. HOTD had the unenviable & impossible task of matching Thrones success & I think despite it being the same world, GRRM’s writing & the execution by all the writers, directors & actors have mad HOTD compelling as its own show that is fresh & enjoyable in its own right & defies comparison despite the obvious connection & desire to compare the two shows. HOTD has surpassed my hopes & expectations🙂👍 So good!
One thing that most reactors miss is the fact that Aemond gets upset in the dinner because they bring out a roasted pig and places it in front of him. The pig is a poke at him when they brought out a pig in the dragon pit during their childhood, and the Strong boy laughed to top it off. Aemond will be a monster soon, not because he is inately evil, but he is made into one

Rhaenys is older than Viserys and she looks essentially the same, she did in Episode 1, and she still is a badass dragon rider. Thats how bad Viserys was suffering

Wish black stans and green stans were more like you guys (open minded and neutral when necessary). If I had to choose between the two I would pick black. However just because I’m team black doesn’t mean I agree with everything black does (and you guys might not as well when more seasons come 😬😬😬). It also doesn’t mean I hate everyone in green and can’t feel sympathy or understand people in green (like Heleana and sorry not sorry Aemond). Unfortunately many people online don’t know how to be open minded.
I was in tears when Daemon helped Viserys up the throne. At the end of the day blood was thicker than water. #TeamBlack until the bitter end 🤧🏴🖤. I also love how Rheanrya was so loving with her children never did she harm them. Great children with great morals unlike the other "ones".
Alicent was at a point where she almost came to her senses and desperately needed something to justify her beliefs. She interpreted Viserys' final words as exactly the words she wanted to hear to justify those beliefs.
Daemon back to snatching up those dragon eggs but this time it’s legit. The dragon eggs are more precious than gold. The blacks vs the greens check the colors everyone is wearing.
If I remember correctly, the close caption for the episode says something like "final breaths' or 'last breaths" right after he says his first wife's name.
Thank God this show only drops one episode per week. I'm a psychological wreck at the end of every episode, and need a week to heal before the next episode begins.
God Viserys was such a great character and Paddy Considine was just glorious in the role, his performance in this episode is the best single episode performance in the franchise imo. This episode really got me emotionally speaking. I had tears rolling down my face almost the whole time. I did not see Vaemond's death coming the way it did. To be fair, while he was still not wrong in what he was saying, he still shouldn't had said it out loud. Dude was asking for a death wish and that's what he got LOL.
I very much appreciated the fact that this show actually decided to be more realistic with the two Targaryen siblings of Viserys and the Queen. The older sibling is NOT always the wiser and stronger and that is very much the way things are usually portrayed. The older brother was always a little dirtbag, jacking off in the window and just being and all around weasel. It's no wonder the younger sibling who was brave and wanted to tame a dragon would turn into the stronger warrior.
Daemon used his Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister to execute Vaemond. The blade belonged in the past to Queen Visenya Targaryen, (Aegon the Conqueror's older sister-wife). It’s said that her spirit still sings within the blade's steel and guides Dark Sister to strike true. Btw, I love Daemon. He's such a complex and interesting character, no wonder he's G.R.R Martin's favorite Targaryen 😌 He's amazing in the books; an excellent warrior, the best dragon rider and so charismatic ( he's a 'bad boy' type, handsome badass, who doesn't give a f.. lol) He looks completely different in the show but Matt Smith gives outstanding performance and he nailed Daemon's personality 💯 So, now I love the show version of Daemon as well 🔥🖤 Kinda funny how at the beginning of the season some ppl thought Daemon is a villain... while a true villain wasn't born yet, at that point lol. Now we have an adult Aemond who is pretty much a psychopath and compared to him Daemon will be a hero lmao
Rhaenyera won't tell Rhaenys that Laenor is still alive even though that would benefit Rhaenyera because of her (platonic) love for Laenor. She loves him so much she'll keep his secret no matter what. This is similar to Ned Stark keeping secret Jon's parentage despite doing so made him an "adulterer" (most lords won't care they father numerous bastards anyway but Ned's honor was the most precious thing about him and he'd sacrifice it to save Jon) and made Catelyn be forever bitter about it.
12:59 Yes, Criston Cole defeated Daemon, but it was in a Tournament, in which, although it is not necessarily to the death, it can culminate in it, since killing someone in a Tournament in Westeros is NOT a crime. Therefore in that fight, Daemon and Criston fought with all their might and without flinching (and yes, Daemon lost and gave up). But here, Criston and Aemond are basically training and entertaining the Court in the training yard. Therefore, neither Aemond nor Cole are fighting with all their strength, especially Criston, since if he kills a prince like Aemond or harms him, he is a dead man (it is strange that No has been executed for beating Laenor, the Son of a Great Lord, who was marrying the Heir to the Iron Throne). In Conclusion, I would NOT take for granted that Aemond is better than Daemon

What Viserys mumbles at the end to Alicent, while under the influence of Milk of the Poppy, does not matter. That was why the council was called where the lords of the land all gathered together in one place and swore loyalty to the heir to the throne (Rhaenyra), in public, in front of witnesses, so that there would be no confusion about the succession. Rhaenyra is the heir, period. Alicent is simply hearing what she wants to hear and is running with it. It has no basis in the law. Side-note: This is what got Ned Stark in trouble as well. The note about Ned being the Protector of the Realm (written by King Robert) was also not done in front of witnesses either. For all official business where power or property is going to be transferred to another, like royal successions, wills, marriages, etc., you must have witnesses!
He stood up when Jace did because he was hoping he’d start a fight, sat down in disappointed when he didn’t then provoked them when Luke laughed at him. Aemond’s petty and vengeful, he hasn’t forgotten being bullied and maimed by his nephews. Also like you said even though Aegon doesn’t take his duties seriously, Aemond has used his hate to become a deadly warrior for Team Green. I think they’re trying to set up a mutual respect for each other cause anytime one of them does anything it shows the other guy’s facial reaction lmao

Thanks for another amazing reaction. This episode had me bawling wow. What a character Viserys was. And the set up that this creates going forward. Idk if this is a common opinion or not, but this season of HoTD is by far my favourite of either of the shows, I was heavily invested in GoT too of course, and it had amazing moments too. But rarely did it have me this emotionally hooked. Fantastic all around, can't wait for next weeks episode.
Aemond was justified in his anger here in my opinion, Jace pointed out memories of their "fond youth" in which Jace, Luke, and Aegon spent bullying Aemond, aswell as them taking his eye, and Luke was stupid as fuck for laughing at a guy who turned into a beast that he bullied when he was younger, in the book it was rumoured that Luke actually asked the royal chef to specifically prepare the pig for Aemond.
You guys made up your mind about Alicent and she can do no right in your eyes...LOL. Alicent believes tradition and duty, she married Viserys and bore his children when she didn't have too (special tea). She knows how much pain Viserys is really in and I don't think she really want Aegon on the throne seeing the man he's becoming (him raping chamber maids). That said,I think she'll will honor Viserys dying wishes not understanding cause their 4 Aegon. Visery did die,if you have the captions it says "My Love" (breathing stops) then credits rolls.

No, Viserys is definitely gone. Since you use subtitles like I do, once the episode proper starts, click on the subtitle settings and select "English CC" instead of "English". They are a little more verbose, accurate, and they include descriptions of certain sounds. In this case, right after Viserys said "My love." mine was followed with (breathing stops).

Apparently the scene where Daemon picks up Viserys Crown was improvised, it was never supposed to even fall but Matt Smith improvised to pick it up for him and him and Paddy never broke character and they walked up for Daemon to crown him and the directors kept it. Slight correction: It fell off Paddy during rehearsal, Matt picked it up and put it on Paddy's head and everyone was like "that's a good idea", then they changed it and re-filmed properly it with Viserys dropping the crown. So it's not the actual blooper/ad lib we see on screen, but it's cool none the less.

Great reaction!! A couple things I'd add:
1) I think Rhaenyra and Alicent actually were being sincere. From Rhaenyra's perspective, she is now realizing just how sick her father has been and how she hasn't been there for him - but all along, Alicent has.
From Alicent's perspective, her scenes with Aegon are key. She judged Rhaenyra for having consensual relationships outside of marriage but now she is having to cover up her married son repeatedly raping servants, which is much worse. She thinks very poorly of Aegon and at this point genuinely believes Rhaenyra would be a better ruler than him.
2) As for Jace dancing with Heleana (Aegon's sister/wife), he probably did want to annoy Aegon - but I think he also was motivated by Heleana's speech about how her husband ignores her. I think Jace was trying to make her feel included and seen in that moment.
Right and it shows alicent truly did believe her children would be in danger if they don’t take the throne and that she believes she could make aegon a great ruler but he’s just not up for it if only aemond was the oldest. They were sincere but ofc viserys final words ignite the war as she feels like now she has to honor him.
I think Alicent know her son aegon cannot deserve throne and also she raised cup to rhaenyra she truly believe that rhaenyra make a good queen but viserys miscommunication happen

As bad as rape is what Rhaenyra is doing is actually worse because she is destroying entire houses and causing potential war. Aegon would be the type of ruler to do bad things that don’t matter in the long term Rhaenyra is the type that would do things that would ruin things on a long term scale.

But you say Rhaenyra is destroying houses. Which houses? Her sons are true Targeryans, which means that they are continuing that line. If her sons marry Baela and Rhaena they are also continuing and even strengthening the Valeyrion line. With that in mind, why do you care so much that they are bastards? Corlys and Leanor both are aware of this and decided to consider them blood and wanted them to inherit so it's not like it's just Rhaenyra forcing this on the family as an outsider.
As far as judging Rhaenyra generally, I am also genuinely curious. What do you think she should have done considering she: a) married Leanor on her father's orders; and b) tried to have children with him but couldn't? She was expected to have children to strengthen her claim and continue her line. She was put in an impossible position in which her only option was to find someone outside her marriage. So that's what she did. Do you really think that means she would be a worse ruler than a petulant, cruel rapist who doesnt even want to be king?
I'm glad y'all caught the miscommunication between Alicent and Viserys at the end, a lot of reactors seems to have missed that.
Alicent was teary-eyed when she was listening to Rhaenyra's apology so I didn't doubt the sincerity at all.

The reason for Aemond suddenly losing his composure was because when they served a pig in front of Aemond Luke laughed at. As a child, Aemond was bullied with a pig by Aegon, Jace and Luke. He is still salty about that and losing the eye.
Viserys walking to the throne is one of the greatest moments in the history of TV.
Vizzy T's long ass walk to the throne made me emotional as hell. Daemon helping him the rest of the way legit sent me over the edge. It's crazy how the actors, director, composer, and writers could have such a simple scene make such a huge impact. First time I teared watching GoT since Hodor holding the door.
To be fair , it seems that is more Lucerys who started the fight laughing at Aemon because the pig reminded him when they give him the "dragon". It's too early to tell , but all children seem pretty bad for now , except Jace and maybe Helena. Which I find symbolic that they are the ones dancing together , maybe they are the hope of peace.

That's totally stupid nonsense. Lucerys just chuckled a bit because he remembered that from them growing up. Aemond's reaction is completely out of place. He should have just chuckled along and made peace, but like Alicent earlier he refuses to let go of the past and what has happened, clinging to his own trauma instead of letting it go. It's simply unbelievable bullshit to claim Lucerys started the fight by just chuckling a little.
That being said, Aemond wasn't the one who started the fight either. Sure, he started triggering Jace and Luke with the bastard insinuations in return (though judging by his demeanor, it seems like he would have used literally any excuse at that point and was going to do it anyway), but they should have just let it be and let Aemond at least let off some steam that way; by now they should have come to terms with the fact that everyone present there knows, or at least has an extremely strong and correct suspicion that they are indeed bastards, and learned to not react in that way.
The one who actually started the fight was Jace; he was the one who threw the first punch.

Love how protective Rhaenyra is of her children. Crazy that in episode one, she hated the idea of having kids, now here she is, about to have her 6th. Ser Crispin didn't really beat Daemon, he attacked him while his back was turned. Daemon actually beat him in that fight, but like Oberyn, he got cocky.
Dont forget Crispin could have simply run over deamon with his horse after he knocked him down and and deamon pulled the sword. It was courtesy he even fought him on even ground.

Alicent definitely was being sincere, she misses her friend, loves her husband and hates the fighting and the stress.
The only person from the adult generation that truly cannot bring himself to believe in reconciliation at all is Otto, who forced Alicent into this situation the first place.
I blame Otto the most but I also somewhat blame Jaehaerys the I as well. If it wasn't for the latter choosing Viserys, maybe history would be very different.
Of course, given the time period and all, it would still had made a huge mess with or without Jaehaerys. At the end of the day, it still would had left someone bitter or resentful regardless of what choice was made. Someone was going to be pissed.

@@marti9734 I think people mistake her lack of romantic/sexual desire for him as a lack of love. Many people somehow completely miss the genuine care and devotion she has shown him for 21 years (we see her dismissing the servants and bathing him and his wounds as early as episode 4, which Viserys appreciates), and we see it in this episode as well, where you can see genuine worry when he’s walking to the throne, and genuine gentleness and care at the very end, even when no one was around to see it.
She’s a complicated character, but I don’t know how some people have developed the idea that she’s some evil snake/Cersei like figure.

I think Alicent really did make peace and she probably did think Rhaenyra would be a good queen. She thought it from the very beginning. It was Otto who scared her thinking that Rhaenyra would kill her kids. But, since then she knows how shit Aegon is. She despises him. She basically disowns him. So, she thinks he’s going to be a shit king. But, now because of her misunderstanding and her duty and loyalty to Viserys she thinks she must now place Aegon on the throne. She will not like it but she feels strongly that it was the kings final words so it must be done.

George RR Martin: Kudos to Paddy Considine, for his portrayal of King Viserys, the First of His Name. The character he created for the show is so much more powerful and tragic and fully-fleshed than my own version in FIRE & BLOOD that I am half tempted to go back and rip up those chapters and rewrite the whole history of his reign. Paddy deserves an Emmy for this episode alone. If he doesn’t get one, hey, there’s no justice.
That’s why when people say “the book is always better” that’s not necessarily true. A good actor can give a character layers that you won’t see on the page.

Rhaenyra can’t tell Rhaenys about Laenor. That would make her marriage to Daemon illegitimate, her sons with him bastards and her a criminal. And people would find out if Rhaenys went to Essos or tried to make contact (even just to verify). The risk is too high.
I know this is going to sound odd, but I felt really relieved to see in the after episode that Paddy Considine is fine.

Daemon & Aemond look more like father & son than Viserys & Aemond do - LOL. During that epic stare down between them, their inner thoughts were probably "Geez, it's like I'm looking in the mirror at my younger/older self." Similar features & "don't take no shit" personalities in both the uncle & nephew. During the throne room scene, You can see how Aemond admired the way Daemon handled the disrespect that Vaemond was showing by calling out Rhaenyra & her sons and flat out insulting the King to his face. Oh yeah, he's gonna die now but that was pretty bad ass scene. Ok, well bye-bye Vaemond, it was nice knowing ya... 😵
It's getting difficult keeping all these "aemon" names straight & now we have another Aegon (the younger) to confuse with Alicent's Aegon. I need to start writing all this down, my old brain can't keep up. 😄Plus another little Viserys, but he's just a toddler & old Vis is gone now so... The scene of him fighting to walk on his own to the throne, the bedside scenes with Rhaenyra, & then his death upon seeing Aemma again were so sad. 😢

I think when Helena said "beware the beast beneath the boards", she wS referring to the board on which the king was building the city prototype. As you may noticed there is always some sort of smoke coming out from it. It maybe that tbere is a dragon egg laying there on hot stones or coal.

Daemon's "Dark Sister" is no Needle LOL!
Nothing is random, Aemond as you recall was bullied heavily, by his older brother Aegon and his nephews who joined in the fun by calling him pig rider. He tried to temper his resentment for the sake of his grandfather by not uttering a single word. and yet whether intentional or not when the roasted pig was presented in from of him, luke couldn't help but giggle at the reference. This pig moment combined with the fact that the little shit that took his eye is laughing is what triggers him to go Daemon lite mode. This isn't to say he isn't a complete sociopath, but he didn't randomly go off on them.
Daemon Targaryen actually loves his brother and you can clearly see it the first episode of the season at Aemma funeral Daemon said to Rhaenyra "Your father needs you more now than he ever has". There was also many times where Viserys exiled him from kings landing and Daemon never lost his cool for his brother. And now in episode 8 where he picks up the crown and help his brother to the throne clearly shows how much respect and love he has for his brother.
Alicent is indeed being sincere here, at this point she hates her son and is kinda okay with Rhaenyra becoming queen. Well, of course, the prophecy is another thing, she misunderstood it and now she must make her son king even against her will because she truly belives that's what kings last wish was. Also, in episode 3 Viserys mentioned to Alicent his dream of his son Aegon wearing crown, he was uncertain about naming Rhaenyra an heir at that time.
Also lets be real she also wants it to be true. Even if she sided with Rhaenyra... do you think her father would have stopped?? Yeahhhhh sure. What about her children then? She might hate Aegon BUT he is still her kid... she loves them and wants to protect them.

Man, talk about some acting! Paddy crushed it. If he doesn’t get some love at one of the awards shows for his portrayal of Viserys Targaryen it’ll be a freaking travesty.
Visersrys sucking up the pain to sit the throne for his daughter was a total legendary move. I know even the most stoic people in the crowd were moved by that scene. So powerful. Plus Daemon helping Viserys at the foot of the throne on the stairs was such a moving & emotional moment as well. Madison was adorable as this episode was just a tear jerker for her. I love that Christian & Madison really suspend their disbelief & really get into it. Good art whether its something like painting or acting is meant to & should stir the soul. I’ve never understood those people who never get moved by powerful works like emotional songs or movies; it’s like they have no soul. You guys are a cute couple & it’s nice seeing how supportive that you are of each other in your reaction videos.
Anyway, Paddy & Matt have been total bosses in their roles. Thrones was the groundbreaker & had more sprawl & more characters but Dragon keeps us focus on just a few families in fewer locations so it’s tighter & more focused on specific characters which drives the show more than the action, battles or dragons. I think that’s one of the big reasons for it’s success. The characters in all their nuance, complexities & ambivalent natures are all relatable & multilayered that they drive the show. Plus these actors even all the kids who seamlessly acted as characters at certain stages & ages knocked it out of the park. Thrones had some excellent actors but I think the likes of Paddy & Matt raised the bar a bit as they’ve been the focus of so much of the story & Season 1. I’d argue the acting might be some of the best we’ve seen in either series.
HOTD had the unenviable & impossible task of matching Thrones success & I think despite it being the same world, GRRM’s writing & the execution by all the writers, directors & actors have mad HOTD compelling as its own show that is fresh & enjoyable in its own right & defies comparison despite the obvious connection & desire to compare the two shows. HOTD has surpassed my hopes & expectations🙂👍 So good!

However just because I’m team black doesn’t mean I agree with everything black does (and you guys might not as well when more seasons come 😬😬😬). I was in tears when Daemon helped Viserys up the throne. At the end of the day blood was thicker than water. #TeamBlack until the bitter end 🤧🏴🖤. I also love how Rheanrya was so loving with her children never did she harm them. Great children with great morals unlike the other "ones".

God Viserys was such a great character and Paddy Considine was just glorious in the role, his performance in this episode is the best single episode performance in the franchise imo. I very much appreciated the fact that this show actually decided to be more realistic with the two Targaryen siblings of Viserys and the Queen. The older sibling is NOT always the wiser and stronger and that is very much the way things are usually portrayed. The older brother was always a little dirtbag, jacking off in the window and just being and all around weasel. It's no wonder the younger sibling who was brave and wanted to tame a dragon would turn into the stronger warrior.

Daemon used his Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister to execute Vaemond. The blade belonged in the past to Queen Visenya Targaryen, (Aegon the Conqueror's older sister-wife). It’s said that her spirit still sings within the blade's steel and guides Dark Sister to strike true.
Btw, I love Daemon. He's such a complex and interesting character, no wonder he's G.R.R Martin's favorite Targaryen 😌 He's amazing in the books; an excellent warrior, the best dragon rider and so charismatic ( he's a 'bad boy' type, handsome badass, who doesn't give a f.. lol) He looks completely different in the show but Matt Smith gives outstanding performance and he nailed Daemon's personality 💯 So, now I love the show version of Daemon as well 🔥🖤

This is similar to Ned Stark keeping secret Jon's parentage despite doing so made him an "adulterer" (most lords won't care they father numerous bastards anyway but Ned's honor was the most precious thing about him and he'd sacrifice it to save Jon) and made Catelyn be forever bitter about it.
But Rhaenys was never against Laenor's tastes nor do I think would she be angry with his choice

12:59 Yes, Criston Cole defeated Daemon, but it was in a Tournament, in which, although it is not necessarily to the death, it can culminate in it, since killing someone in a Tournament in Westeros is NOT a crime. Therefore in that fight, Daemon and Criston fought with all their might and without flinching (and yes, Daemon lost and gave up). But here, Criston and Aemond are basically training and entertaining the Court in the training yard. Therefore, neither Aemond nor Cole are fighting with all their strength, especially Criston, since if he kills a prince like Aemond or harms him, he is a dead man (it is strange that No has been executed for beating Laenor, the Son of a Great Lord, who was marrying the Heir to the Iron Throne). In Conclusion, I would NOT take for granted that Aemond is better than Daemon

What Viserys mumbles at the end to Alicent, while under the influence of Milk of the Poppy, does not matter. That was why the council was called where the lords of the land all gathered together in one place and swore loyalty to the heir to the throne (Rhaenyra), in public, in front of witnesses, so that there would be no confusion about the succession. Rhaenyra is the heir, period. Alicent is simply hearing what she wants to hear and is running with it. It has no basis in the law. Side-note: This is what got Ned Stark in trouble as well. The note about Ned being the Protector of the Realm (written by King Robert) was also not done in front of witnesses either. For all official business where power or property is going to be transferred to another, like royal successions, wills, marriages, etc., you must have witnesses!
He stood up when Jace did because he was hoping he’d start a fight, sat down in disappointed when he didn’t then provoked them when Luke laughed at him. Aemond’s petty and vengeful, he hasn’t forgotten being bullied and maimed by his nephews. If you've ever seen fanart of Viserys and Daemon when they were very young, the baby cast as Viserys II has the absolute perfect hair. I bet that's exactly what Viserys looked like when he was a baby.
Also cole only beat Daemon because he was showboating and turned his back while criston eas on the ground lol besides aemond been training with criston his whole life and criston used the flail against daemon to surprise him because people don’t normally use that in fights in tourney but aemond been preparing for the flail all his life…not the same at all

Idk if this is a common opinion or not, but this season of HoTD is by far my favourite of either of the shows, I was heavily invested in GoT too of course, and it had amazing moments too. But rarely did it have me this emotionally hooked. Fantastic all around, can't wait for next weeks episode.
Viserys' slow and sad death just makes everyone forget that this civil war is his fault.

Aemond was justified in his anger here in my opinion, Jace pointed out memories of their "fond youth" in which Jace, Luke, and Aegon spent bullying Aemond, aswell as them taking his eye, and Luke was stupid as fuck for laughing at a guy who turned into a beast that he bullied when he was younger, in the book it was rumoured that Luke actually asked the royal chef to specifically prepare the pig for Aemond.
You guys made up your mind about Alicent and she can do no right in your eyes...LOL. Alicent believes tradition and duty, she married Viserys and bore his children when she didn't have too (special tea). She knows how much pain Viserys is really in and I don't think she really want Aegon on the throne seeing the man he's becoming (him raping chamber maids). That said,I think she'll will honor Viserys dying wishes not understanding cause their 4 Aegon. Visery did die,if you have the captions it says "My Love" (breathing stops) then credits rolls.
