Thanks for clicking and watching this reaction of Gravity Falls. Just to note I had tons of issues with copyright claims on this video. There's a three minute section towards the end of the episode where I had to mute a lot of the show audio. This video took eight attempts to upload because of that. Just letting you all know. Thanks again everyone! Mike
Real sorry about that, but hey either way I cannot wait to watch this. I genuinely haven’t been this addicted to a series since the Mandalorian came out
Originally when the show was airing, fans had somehow gotten extremely close to finding the authors identity (don't ask how) So Alex decided to post a picture of McGucket with six fingers writing a journal on a website, let it sit until fans noticed, deleted it, then sent out an angry tweet about the "leak" This was about a year before this episode came out so until then, fans were thrown off so hard.
He posted it on Reddit with an anonymous account then deleted it and went to Twitter posted a tweet saying "I am fuming " or something along those lines let it sit for a few hours deleted it
Funny thing btw, at the end credits scene when Stan drops his pen, mug and notebook into the portal, the items come out of a portal in a rick and morty episode in the background! I always loved that fact as it is another connection in the vast multiverse of animation that my headcanon says is all connected..
@@babarjaputak2314 Although, when you think about it -- it might be that Alex thought this episode would originally air before the Rick and Morty one (and closer in time to it), but it's now infamous how much Disney screwed around with the schedule of the show in Season 2. (In a way, though, the fact that the objects came out of a portal in the R&M ep *before* they went into the portal in this one is way funnier.)
*_“You can’t break what’s already broken!”_* I think that line will haunt me until the day I die, honestly. Aside from him being hilarious pretty much every other time he appears, this was the episode that really cemented McGucket’s status as my favorite secondary character in the whole show. I especially love how, yes, his memories of his old life are coming back to him, but he has by no means lost the weird hillbilly he’s become since. This incredible inventor is still the same guy who ate his way thru a dinosaur and I’m here for it. This big plot/lore revelation is in the same episode as “Why does my beard have a bandage?” and it’s amazing. I love _Gravity Falls._ 💜
as soon as you said “why does his beard have a bandaid on it?” i was like oh he’s gonna lose his mind when mcgucket asks that exact question in the episode 😂
The episode acknowledged the weird bandage on McGucket's beard… but did you notice that the re-play of his memories actually _explains_ how it came about? In his memory labelled "Day 189" (18:34) he recounts an accident, which gave him the cast and bandage - and then he forgets about it. He never has the cast removed and has been wearing it for 30 years, and in the following memories, you can see the beard grow from underneath the bandage, carrying it along. Also, contrary to what the subtitles say, in the last memory, he is _not_ speaking "gibberish" - he is speaking _code!_ "YROO XRKSVI! GIRZMTOV."
Just a warning about spoilers, be very careful when picking your next episode. If you accidentally scroll down too far while picking the next episode of Gravity Falls, you might end up seeing the title of a future episode that could give away major spoilers
A little backstory When the show was still airing on Disney, someone on Tumblr was SO CLOSE to finding out the truth about who the author is that creator Alex Hirsch had to make a fake leak where McGuckett was apparently the author.
I absolutely LOVE this episode, it's one of my favorites. It takes the trope of only the main characters knowing about magic/weird stuff/whatever gimmick the show has so they can have the spotlight while the audience is supposed to accept it because "cartoon logic" and actually gives us a believable and compelling explanation for it, it's great. Not just that, it gives us an explanation for why all the "haha, quirky town's people" (or, to quote Stan from Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained "the people of this town are literally the dumbest people on earth") are the way they are. It's because they're low-key getting brain damage from getting their memories erased over and over. I also like how they managed to make a cult that's both amusing (just how CASUAL the members are about it ("unsee you later" "Did you practice your chanting?")) and terrifying. Additionally, the episode really endeared me to McGucket. I, admittedly, didn't care about him much during my first watch, but this truly managed to turn it around. Aside from him seeing his memories (which was an amazing scene, I especially like the silence after the memories have been shown and the black and white "particle screen" effect on McGucket's face) there was also one line that really stood out to me. When he kept getting hit by the memory gun and said "You can't break what's already broken". It's just so sad. He truly is a tragic character. The cipher of the end card for this episode: Gideon's tantrums, misspelled tattoos, Shandra's rejections, society's views, A fear of witches, a life of regret, these are the things that they try to forget.
IMO, the Society of the Blind Eye is the most terrifying thing in the show. Because it is the invention of humans, kept going by regular townsfolk who think they are "doing good" while all along they're doing so much damage, while fostering an unhealthy approach to dealing with things that disturb you or are weird. Supernatural threats are one thing, but regular people doing that to other people is way more scary than anything else. I also think that ending poem is genius, because in a very concise way, it adds a little depth to each of the characters we saw under the robes, and is a great call-back to some earlier episodes. (For example: "a fear of witches" has to be Farmer Sprott, who in "The Time Traveler's Pig" asked Mabel if she was "some kind of witch", and when she answered "Yes" on the second time loop, immediately said, "Welp, time to round up a mob" while lighting a torch. Clearly, witches are on his mind! Or... not, given that he's a member of the SOTBE and probably constantly erasing the thought of witches so he doesn't worry about them.)
So if you take into consideration the fact the ray has messed up everyone's minds, who do you think got the worst of it. I think that the two cops actually used to be competent but because of them zapping them so many times, they became the lovable idiots we know in the show. I especially think the tall one got hit really hard because he can't read.
I've thought about that too, and frankly it makes sense that the cops would be zapped more than most folk in Gravity Falls, and not just based on how they act. They're the ones who are most likely to be exposed to "weird stuff" when people see something weird, freak out, and call the cops, so it makes total sense that they'd be zapped more than most.
@@randalthor741 Also it makes sense since one of the few things that hadn't been wiped was their "secret mission" from the 'Irrational treasure' episode. They clearly remembered it better than most things because they hadn't specifically targeted that memory.
Especially when you consider that a sheriff is an elected county official, which means that Blubs was elected by the people of Roadkill County - not just the people of Gravity Falls. Presumably people outside Gravity Falls wouldn't be electing someone totally incompetent to the position.
From the second episode I guessed McGucket had a bigger mystery behind him, but I hadn't guessed he was involved in the town-wide coverup when I first watched it. Still such a great explanation about how the average townsfolk are seemingly oblivious when surrounded by weirdness, maintaining the status quo across episodes.
Don’t worry, most of us are die hard fans of the show, we understand the let down that spoilers can bring, I’m just gonna watch your reactions until the last episode
I really like the way they wrote mcgucket in this episode and in general, because it's a very clever way of portraying addiction and how it affects not only those who are addicts, but those around him. if you'll remember, mcgucket has a pretty rocky relationship with his son, and his wife left him a while ago. it's incredibly sad for him and sad to think about, but they portrayed it pretty accurately
@@MikeyVenture You mentioned wanting to rewatch the series once you finish, and for real, rewatching it with what we learn about McGucket in mind is a trip! When you think back to what a kooky joke character he was in the beginning, you would never expect the show to turn around and give him this much depth, but here we are. (At the same time, you're totally right to point out that from the very first ep in which we see him, the show was signalling that there's more to him than just a "hillbilly" joke, given they also made him a genius inventor of amazing robots.)
No spoilers, and I don't know if you have the actual copy of Journal 3, but I do! And it's kinda implied his wife left him before he founded the Society/made the Ray gun. So it was him moving to Gravity Falls, away from his wife and kid that made that skism happen. But I think it's a testament to his son actually moving to Gravity Falls later in his life (If I remember correctly the journal said his son was 8/9 when McGucket left) to watch over him. It's still incredibly messed up and wrong for him to ignore McGucket and have him live in a dump. But at least he didn't abandon him completely!
This is the "take everything you thought you knew and throw it away" episode of Gravity Falls for me. I'm glad McGucket has seemingly grown on you or at least you respect him a bit more now because he's a really great character with a surprising amount of depth for someone who was mainly the crazy hermit comic relief for a long time.
"Everything before 1982", the same date circled on the calendar in that secret room in the Mystery Hack. Also Stan said something about working on that machine for 30 years, which would also mean since 1982. These aren't spoilers since they've all been stated or shown in episodes you've reacted to already, so just *reminding* you of stuff you've already seen. There's also the lyrics of "Heat of the Moment" by Asia, "And now you find yourself in '82. The disco hotspots hold no charm for you", which is completely irrelevant.
7:33 Fun fact, sweetbreads means organs. Found it out watching Good luck Charlie, he made French food, they didn't realize traditional French food wasn't stuff like French Toast. They were disgusted and asked what it was. PJ said one was. Kidney and another was Liver I think
I love watching your reactions, especially when you point out things like Soos being actually pissed at Wendy for chucking the CD out the window, it's the little things that are often the best
I really love this episode because it explains not only how mcgucket became who he was now but also that it explains why the people of gravity falls aren't aware of the super natural
There was a fun little cross over between Rick and morty and this episode, in one of the episodes of Rick and morty you can see the stuff Stan dropped fall out of a portal
Dude you are one of the best reacting channels I’ve watched, you really pay attention to the stuff that most people don’t think about, makes me smile every time you mention the animation or a music score, as an artist it just makes me happy that someone is noticing the hard work people put in to stuff like this! Im so excited to see how you react to the rest of the show!
I've been watching this alongside you and I had a completely different theory about the portal, but now I think ur theory adds a lot to mine. I was thinking that Stan must be in a contract with Bill to make the machine. because I don't think Stan has shown at all that he has the knowledge or capabilities of building something like this on his own, even with the journals. but then your theory about trying to get a loved one back makes a lot of sense. the show spends a lot of time talking about how Stan is undatable. maybe his significant other is the author ? and they were contracted with Bill to make the machine, but they somehow broke free and destroyed it. so maybe bill captured them and is now using it as leverage to make Stan make the machine for him. makes a lot of sense to me
No real spoilers, but I would like to suggest you to pay attention to the end of the clip of McGucket's memories. I mean, the moment he brought his hands to his face. Look carefully at that, you may have an hint of what he was afraid for in the first place.
This episode is so cool, all the little puzzle pieces about the town and specifically mcgucket just click into place and it’s so epic to watch, I loved your reaction!!
Love this episode. Alot of theories about Fiddleford being connected to the author have been around since before this episode. And alot of us who spent time like Dipper with our theory boards flipped out while watching this episode.
over the next few episodes, look at stans hand: it’s still bandaged. it’s been confirmed by the creator to let the audience know the stories are interconnected. though the next few episodes don’t deal with the portal we haven’t forgotten about it, and it’s worth it when the payoff finally comes
I just love this episode so much, there is so much lore in this one. A perfect ramp up to the pay-off of this whole mystery. (the pay-off won't be here in a while but still!) I also love the coincidence of you pointing out the band-aid on McGuckets beard and then the episode did too. Amazing
I won’t confirm whether your theory is right or not, but it is a very interesting one. We learn a lot about McGucket in this episode, but the most interesting one to me is we learn his first name in this episode. It’s Fiddleford.
1. 14:43, Her dad once put a fish in a headlock, I do not blame her AT ALL!! 2. Blind Ivan’s actor is Peter Serafinowicz. 3. Poor Mermando, wish they had an episode where they helped him outta that engagement.
Wooo! Binged all your gravity falls videos in 2 days Love your reaction to it and reminds me of 14 year old me every time a new episode came out Soon my absolutely favourite episodes are up
Wow I appreciate that so much! That’s a lot of content there haha. And yeah this show makes me feel like a kid again when I watch it. Puts a huge smile on my face every time I watch it
If you notice, the bandaid was on his chin prior to growing a beard when we see his past. It's still there, he just didn't remove it, so it moved with the hair
I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS! And your theories are also cool. There is so much mystery and secrets and even if you think you have something figured out, the show throws a twist or something at you that makes you go: Wait what? Only a few more episodes until the author will be revealed. This is going to be awesome.
I kind of think that saying stuff like that is what Mikey was complaining about, regarding setting up expectations. Even giving him a hint about when he might find out the answers is a spoiler in a way. That's what he wants people to be more careful about.
My entire life has been incredibly sad, lonely, and depressing. I've been suicidal for most of my life and it just gets worse as time goes on, yet I'd never want to erase any of my memories, no matter how sad. If something happened, it happened... And if I don't remember, it happened for nothing. I wouldn't want to give up a part of my life, even though it's almost exclusively been sad. I have also seen a lot of paranormal and occult stuff. I've had to deal with stuff most people don't even know is real. But I still don't want to forget.
Ugh I know! I’m sure it wraps up nicely, but I would love more in this world. It doesn’t even have to be the main plot stuff. Like more shorts would be great
*Spoilers for Adventure Time* Watching McGucket's memories recorded like that, seeing how he slowly degrades as time goes on... It's almost exactly like watching Simon's videotape in Adventure Time, about his decent into madness.
Man I love Fiddleford, he’s got such a sad backstory of being roped in the way he was to a world of nothingness and pain. I love your reactions through this and that you understand the sadness of the episode. Still January 3rd. 22/?
Kinda makes me wonder why didn't the society had messed w pines family or Gideon or Pacifica or Soos or Wendy, the characters that have encountered the paranormal before.
In the comments after you reacted to s2 ep3 the golf war. One of the commenters mentioned that Pacifica Northwest memories we erased by the society of the blind eye, presumably because of what happened in the episode. Pacifica does indeed have a memory tube in the pile as they’re sorting. But in gravity falls, who knows what Pacifica has actually seen and when. It also seems that the society of the blind eyes modus of operandi seems to be to kidnap the people as they are just in the process of seeing what they saw. Pacifica seems to have gotten home in that episode. Thanks to Stan dipper, Mabel and Soos, So it’s entirely possible that Pacifica didn’t have the memories erased of the golf incident, It would also explain how she could back slide a little, yet, still maintain some identity of what dipper and Mabel had done for her, Enough at least to deal with the incident that occurs later in the season. But yes Pacific it does have a memory tube; what she saw we don’t know Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of season two with you
I always saw McGucket's downward spiral as a form of substance abuse. But the positive message at the end showed he was willing to face his mistakes and begin rebuilding himself. He may never be a 'whole' mane again, but he can heal with time and care. Lots of codes in this episode. In the journal is the authors private code: IF MY SUSPICIONS ARE CORRECT, THIS IS THE WORK OF FIDDLEFORD. DOES HE REALLY HAVE TO GO TO SUCH GREAT LENGTHS TO FORGET? McGucket's nonsense at the end of his recorded memories can be translated too: [REDACTED to avoid spoilers] Credits code: IGNORANCE IS BLISS. BUT BLISS IS BORING. Numbers code: GIDEON’S TANTRUMS, MISSPELLED TATTOOS, SHANDRA’S REJECTIONS, SOCIETY’S VIEWS, A FEAR OF WITCHES, A LIFE OF REGRET, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT THEY TRY TO FORGET.
“…whether it’s the author, a loved one, someone he lost…” NO. FREAKING. WAY. Basically ALL three guesses are correct! I’m SO glad I’m 2 years late to this video, because I know I won’t spoil anything. (People who spoil things are Gabe-level jerks.)
"I think... he's searching for someone. Whether it's the author of this book, or a loved one, or someone he lost... I don't know." It's actually amazing how you were right on the money about ALL of those, and they all ended up being the same person.

I love watching your reactions, especially when you point out things like Soos being actually pissed at Wendy for chucking the CD out the window, it's the little things that are often the best
Thank you! And agreed. I try my best to notice little moments like characters facial expressions. It says so much
When I was in high school I used to draw the Blind Eye symbol everywhere, like on the walls and tables. Nobody knew what it ment
I really love this episode because it explains not only how mcgucket became who he was now but also that it explains why the people of gravity falls aren't aware of the super natural
Favourite episode right here I literally have the blind eye symbol spray painted on my wall in my beadroom
So much hard work goes into making these shows. I try to emphasize the importance of every bit that help make these shows great
I've been watching this alongside you and I had a completely different theory about the portal, but now I think ur theory adds a lot to mine.
Unsee you guys in 17 hours
Can’t wait to Unsee you guys in 15 hours.
Unsee you guys in 14 hours...
Unsee you guys in 10 hours
Unsee y'all in 3 hours
Unsee you in 3 hours
This episode is so cool, all the little puzzle pieces about the town and specifically mcgucket just click into place and it’s so epic to watch, I loved your reaction!!
I just wanna say that you are getting closer and closer to one of the biggest lore bombs in cartoon history
This episode is so satisfying, because it explains so much... And yet it still leaves so much more unexplained!
I know! The show does a great job balancing that all out
i think every episode after this has lore and story
What about Love God?
@@MattTOB618 well
maybe not that one
Love this episode. Alot of theories about Fiddleford being connected to the author have been around since before this episode. And alot of us who spent time like Dipper with our theory boards flipped out while watching this episode.
over the next few episodes, look at stans hand: it’s still bandaged. it’s been confirmed by the creator to let the audience know the stories are interconnected. though the next few episodes don’t deal with the portal we haven’t forgotten about it, and it’s worth it when the payoff finally comes
The one thing everyone forgets until this episode is that F. Mcgucket it is a father 👌
Ah yes, one the greatest mysteries in Gravity Falls has finally been addressed...why does McGucket have a bandage on his beard?
Definitely a top 5 mystery 😂
This episode still holds up
The hype is real!! HUUUUUGE episode reaction incoming!!
5:38 Same year as the calendar from Carpet episode, never realized
I just love this episode so much, there is so much lore in this one. A perfect ramp up to the pay-off of this whole mystery. (the pay-off won't be here in a while but still!) I also love the coincidence of you pointing out the band-aid on McGuckets beard and then the episode did too. Amazing
To find the mug and the pen of Stan you have to see the épisode of Rick et Morty : "Close Rick counters of the Rick Kind."
I won’t confirm whether your theory is right or not, but it is a very interesting one.
We learn a lot about McGucket in this episode, but the most interesting one to me is we learn his first name in this episode. It’s Fiddleford.
We already knew his first name from the end credits of "Little Dipper"
Careful, this show reads your mind lol! Just when you ask what deal was with the bandaid the show brings it up 😁
Man, seeing Muguckett in season 1 hits different now, doesn't it? What happened to him was so tragic.
Great reaction! What a reveal!
Yeah they are starting to throw all sorts of twists and turns now
This is probably one of my favorite episodes in the series
1. 14:43, Her dad once put a fish in a headlock, I do not blame her AT ALL!!
2. Blind Ivan’s actor is Peter Serafinowicz.
3. Poor Mermando, wish they had an episode where they helped him outta that engagement.
U can see the agents when they are driving to the museum
I can't wait for 2x10
One of my fav ep ever
Same here :D
Toot Toot went on to become a famous musician and create the single catchiest pop song to ever exist. It remains stuck in Wendy's head to this day...
Wooo! Binged all your gravity falls videos in 2 days
Love your reaction to it and reminds me of 14 year old me every time a new episode came out
Soon my absolutely favourite episodes are up
Wow I appreciate that so much! That’s a lot of content there haha. And yeah this show makes me feel like a kid again when I watch it. Puts a huge smile on my face every time I watch it
Oh boy the plot thickens.
I'm so excited for you to watch the next episodes but also so nervous 😂😂😂
If you notice, the bandaid was on his chin prior to growing a beard when we see his past. It's still there, he just didn't remove it, so it moved with the hair
So excited for you to get to the next few episodes, they're my absolute favourites in the series (along with the finale)! Love your reactions, too!
Thanks so much for watching and I’m glad you are enjoying them. Season 2 has been incredible
YES ONE OF MY FAVORITE EPISODES!! Great reaction :D I’m so exited because your getting to the real good, lore heavy stuff :].
Sad I missed the premier but an amazing reaction as always! Can't wait to continue on this journey with you, Mikey!
Sorry you had to miss it! Thankfully there will be more, and I’ve been enjoying sharing my experience of the show with everyone :)
If a gravity falls episode this serious you better bet that its important for the characters and story
Thx for the reaction and the blind eye explains so much huh
Ive enjoyed your journey through gravity falls so much I don't want it to end in half a season 😭
Ugh I know! I’m sure it wraps up nicely, but I would love more in this world. It doesn’t even have to be the main plot stuff. Like more shorts would be great
I love your reactions so much, I love this show
It makes me happy so many are enjoying the reactions!
The calendar in Carpet Diem had the year 1982 on it, same year McGucket claims he doesn't remember anthing before that
*Spoilers for Adventure Time*
Watching McGucket's memories recorded like that, seeing how he slowly degrades as time goes on... It's almost exactly like watching Simon's videotape in Adventure Time, about his decent into madness.
Oh meant "descent", not "decent", but won't edit because the heart disappears xD
This was a great episode, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
what's so funny about their confessions is that I've literally experienced Mable, Dipper, _and_ Wendy's all in my own life XD
18:53: "YROO XRXKIVY GIRZMATOV" is actually a message, when decoded, says, "Bill Cipher Triangle".
Man I love Fiddleford, he’s got such a sad backstory of being roped in the way he was to a world of nothingness and pain. I love your reactions through this and that you understand the sadness of the episode. Still January 3rd. 22/?
Сoоl episode
But doesn't make any sense
I mean...if there society that erases memory about weird stuff, than why they okay with whole Pines family?
Oh buddy you are in for a BIG plot twist that’s all I am going to say also I love you and videos
Kinda makes me wonder why didn't the society had messed w pines family or Gideon or Pacifica or Soos or Wendy, the characters that have encountered the paranormal before.
Awesome reaction!! Can't wait for next episode!
But yes Pacific it does have a memory tube; what she saw we don’t know
Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of season two with you
It’s funny how all 3 of his suggestions of who Stan was looking for are technically correct 😂
Haha I watched this again to hear what I said, and yeah you’re right 😂
And it only gets darker lol
I always saw McGucket's downward spiral as a form of substance abuse. But the positive message at the end showed he was willing to face his mistakes and begin rebuilding himself. He may never be a 'whole' mane again, but he can heal with time and care.
Lots of codes in this episode. In the journal is the authors private code:
IF MY SUSPICIONS ARE CORRECT, THIS IS THE WORK OF FIDDLEFORD. DOES HE REALLY HAVE TO GO TO SUCH GREAT LENGTHS TO FORGET?
McGucket's nonsense at the end of his recorded memories can be translated too:
[REDACTED to avoid spoilers]
Credits code:
IGNORANCE IS BLISS. BUT BLISS IS BORING.
Numbers code:
GIDEON’S TANTRUMS, MISSPELLED TATTOOS,
SHANDRA’S REJECTIONS, SOCIETY’S VIEWS,
A FEAR OF WITCHES, A LIFE OF REGRET,
THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT THEY TRY TO FORGET.
I cant wait
4:05: The show said "SIKE!"
Wow this Recation is on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
old mcgucket did the triangle on the in memories show bill
“…whether it’s the author, a loved one, someone he lost…”
NO. FREAKING. WAY. Basically ALL three guesses are correct! I’m SO glad I’m 2 years late to this video, because I know I won’t spoil anything. (People who spoil things are Gabe-level jerks.)
just sayin 2x5 isnt filler cos it makes how soos acts later in the show make sense
poor fiddleford
more GF reactions!! Love it!
Согласен!!
I'm trying not to spoil so forgive me if it does but the answer you are looking for will be answered very soon in terms of episodes count
12:10 LMAOOO
"I think... he's searching for someone. Whether it's the author of this book, or a loved one, or someone he lost... I don't know." It's actually amazing how you were right on the money about ALL of those, and they all ended up being the same person.
Don't be ashamed of your gender.
