This is one of my favorite episodes. Every main arc episode has only given us clues up to this point, but this episode finally gave us at least one actual answer. Even though we still don't have the answers we want, we finally learned the origin of Fiddleford McGucket.
This also explains why more people in the town aren't talking about supernatural stuff and why word hasn't gotten to the outside about gravity falls weirdness.
Jaxcraft 28 that thing about Bill always confused me. I thought he was obligated to uphold his end whenever he makes a bargain with a mortal being. But he wasn't remotely responsible for showing this hint to Dipper.
See, all this time I was thinking he *wasn't* bound to uphold his end of the bargain at all, not even with an ironic twist, and he just "made bad deals." But now that I think of it... I suppose it's plausible that this could "count" as giving Dipper a "hint."

The secret messages of this show will drive you insane! You need a key word that helps you decode the "Vigenere" cipher. But the key word is always hidden in the show, somewhere within the background with a symbol of a key in front of it so you don't confuse it with just random text.

I am wondering if Stan might be the author myself or at least definitely knows the author. What is he trying to do? He is so determined. I wonder if not being able to forget all the strange things that are happening in Gravity Falls will change the town. Also, I should probably get to watching Rick and Morty.
Absolutely watch Rick and Morty. Unlike Gravity Falls which is uplifting and delightful, R&M is depressing and disturbing (and obviously far, far more mature in its content) but it is no less of a masterpiece.

I believe for the first season the trick was 3 letters back, the whisper at the end of the intro backwards said that. Something similar for season 2 I believe.
"Episodes 1-6 use the Caesar cipher, episodes 7-13 use the Atbash cipher, episodes 14-19 use the A1Z26 cipher, episode 20 uses a combined cipher (a combination of the A1Z26, Atbash, and Caesar ciphers), episodes 21-40 use the keyed Vigenère cipher." So basically, for this season you need to find the key in each episode.
The stuff at the end credits uses Caesar ciphers, Atbash ciphers, the A1Z26 cipher, and keyed Vigenère ciphers. You can google these and try to figure it out, or just look up the solutions up online. The earlier episodes use the simpler ones, and it was designed to be solved by a community, not an individual. :) (Also, your hair is ridiculously on-point for someone who was up till 1 am. Did you attend the opening of an art gallery before filming this? I believe the expression is dang girl.)
At the title card of every episode in season 1, there's a reversed whipser that's a clue to the code. In season 2, they use the vigenere cipher and the key is hidden somewhere in each episode. As always such a joy to watch you. Your charisma just shines through, even when you just watch in silence. This episode is an emotional turning point for the show. For the first time we catch a glimpse at just how deep the rabbit hole goes and how extremely serious the danger that lurks at the end really is, and we learn how the mysteries of the town affects its citizens in a very real way. When I first watched this episode I got the exact same kind of chills, I got when I first watched Twin Peaks (the original 90s series) In a way GF is Twin Peaks for kids.

The Society of the Blind Eye, I like this episode but I just realize how Sisterly Mabel and Wendy are! I like how they defend Lazy Suzy, she is a kind and nice diner owner. Also, I like that they brought the Gnomes back they were funny lol
Short story on the codes: they're all already solved. They actually kept them pretty simple. The backwards voice of the intro says what type of cipher the codes for the episode have, and they litter in encrypted messages and the keys to them throughout the episode. All in all: the codes are just kinda hype phrases for the story. Hinting at Grunkle Stan's secrets before they were revealed, little gag lines, and occasional ones that STILL haunt people. Like: "The Handyman knows more than you think." which sure sounds like Soos. An answer for that one is never found, but it sure is mysterious.
There are actually hints all over the show, very well hidden, to what Stan is up to in the basement. They are not easy to spot especially for first-time viewers but a few very dedicated folks did actually figure it out before it was revealed later on. I am VERY curious what you will say to that...
At the end of the theme song for each episode you can hear someone faintly whisper something quickly. If you take the whisper and reverse it, it's actually someone saying how to decipher the cipher at the end of the episode
I have to keep myself from jamming my hands on the keyboard from excitement!!! Season 2 is amazing, and my absolute favorite episode is Season 2 Episode 11, so I cannot wait!!! I also love this end credit scene, it's so ominous

To figure out the cypher, listen to the whispering at the end of the theme song backwards, it's different every episode and tells you how to figure it out
the intro is usually the key to cracking the codes... the whispering is a backwards message dropping hints. there have been several hints dropped about the author so far, and i do mean several. carpet diem, dreamscapers, into the bunker, the gobble wonker episode, and even some of the shorts. but they are so subtle though, lol.
