The car seen at 6:45 is the new 2024 Santa Fe! I personally prefer my third generation 2018 version :) Also, great video! I enjoy the Mirage videos. The fuel mileage is exceptional, far better than anything I've ever seen in my car, which would be around 27 mpg. The Mirage seems pretty good power-wise on the highway too.
Thanks! I get comments often asking me to drive the speed limit in a video. I despise driving the speed limit because it uses more fuel and I don't like going that fast but for this one time on Christmas I made a video for you guys going faster. :-) Also 27 miles per gallon in a humongous SUV is pretty good. I don't quite understand why someone would get such a large SUV in the first place. Something like a station wagon would be better. Or a Subaru impreza. They get significantly better gas mileage. And are safer to others like bikers and people on foot. If they SUV hits somebody it's a lot worse than if a car hits somebody.
I have the same mentality as you. I prefer going around 55. It's less stressful, less chaotic, better gas mileage, etc. My Mirage has maintained 65-70 just fine at the times I go that speed. The other day, I made a pass on a 2-lane road, passing 2 cars, one towing a trailer, both going 50 in a 65mph zone. I pushed the gas pedal only halfway down to make the pass, and in no time flat, the car was going 80 during the quick pass. It wasn't downhill either; it was level. So despite what people say, the Mirage does have acceptable passing power. I was driving to San Antonio a couple weeks ago, straight into consistent 10-20mph winds, at about 65mph, and the actual mpgs was around 42. For the overnight drive back, I had the wind at my back and empty roads, so I went slower and got great mileage to balance it out. At 11k miles, the car's estimate is saying 51.1 lifetime, actual is 47.75.
You are doing quite good for life time MPG! 47.75 Is a solid number! Last time I went to Texas, I was in the Ford Maverick, and I did feel the need to speed up around El Paso, the speed limit was 80 MPH, the big semi's in the right lane where slamming on the brakes down to 60 not able to pass because the left lane was a wall of closely following cars going 80+. I sped up to 65, then 70, and they still where mad it seemed. Next time, I'm taking the side roads, 55 max. (: If I where you, I would have stayed behind the trailer getting near 70 MPG at 50 MPH.. I am not sure though. I can't work out which is better, 50, or 55 MPH. I only have 1 tank at 50, 1 tank at 55, and the 55 tank according to math was better, the 50 tank according to the car was better, by a lot, it was 70 MPG instead of the car saying 62 or so at 55. So that is still an ongoing project! (:
@@extralock1045 Yeah, the car's estimates definitely can be quite off from actual, same with my Honda Fit. I usually settle in behind someone going slightly slower than me, as I usually am going faster than what I want to go, just due to the super fast flow of heavy traffic in most places I go. I have driven in Orange Country many times, as I have a friend that lives there, and I stay with him when I'm doing the theme parks in the area or going to shows with him. I made that particular pass because I was running (not late but) on-time, so I didn't want to give up a couple minutes in that case, as I was doing 65. But I bring that up just as proof that the Mirage definitely has adequate passing power, despite what the nay-sayers say. Watch out on the side roads in Texas. Most of those have a speed limit of 70-75, even with just the 1 lane per direction, and most people who drive the side roads are on there because they want to go faster than what they were able to do on the interstate. They get furious with me for not doing over 100.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan Holy! People on the side roads want to go 100!? I actually live part time in Orange County! How did you like it here? I find in California, 55 MPH is perfectly good. (: My mom has a pass for Knotts Berry Farm, and goes there nearly daily.
@@extralock1045 I have loved every visit I've had to Orange County. Knott's is a great park! I love the coasters & the theming & atmosphere, and school days didn't have long lines for me. Magic Mountain is another one of my favorites, but I do have to drive through LA to get there. I like that people aren't driving 100+, but a big reason why is because of the extra traffic. But that does allow me to drive more the speed that I actually prefer to do. The side roads in Texas do have some people that want to go ridiculously fast, but even the more reasonable drivers are still doing 10 over the 70-75mph speed limit on back roads. Oklahoma drivers are a little more reasonable, but still fast. Speed limits keep getting raised throughout this part of the country.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan The sad part, even if the speed limit is raised to 100 MPH, people will still go 15 over. Why not drive the speed you want? I try to, and for the most part it seems fine. On the 2 lane roads, instead of going slightly slower than the speed of cars, if you go very far below, the person behind won't need to speed up to pass, they can just pass, at least if there are no on coming cars, I hope there isn't. Rural Nevada, up near Ely, and Austin, was very rural. I stuck to 53, to 55 MPH. The cars I did see went pretty fast, but likely due to the lack of cell service and other people around, they kept the speed more reasonable. (:
I do highly agree! People call me dangerous and a road hazard and annoying and a road rage inducer, ETC, for going 55, even 65 people get mad.. When I do the limit, people seem to get mad too it seems. 55 Is the best for MPG by far. (:
To be honest, trying to go 65 seems to be more stressful, almost impossible to maintain (road conditions), so you get worn out and pay more on fuel for it. My verdict not worth these 10 mph for the stress and 0 time saved.
Wow, almost 800 views already before I even watched it. Do your channel statistics differentiate between the same viewers popping back on and off like I do with your longer videos as opposed to individual viewers? (If that made sense)
I highly agree, this car can go plenty fast. But people I talk to in person don't think it can go the speed limit, and MANY, MANY people online say it can't and is a road hazard and dangerously slow... It isn't. It does just fine. I think it's an unnecessary video too, being it goes down the road just fine at 55, but it's alright, I made the video anyway. (:

I had mine at 90 mph on I-15 for over an hour. Still was getting 39mpg average.
90 Is really fast! 55 Is best. But these can still get absurdly good MPG at absurdly fast speeds. I heard going 70-75 the car gets about ~43 MPG.

55-65 would be optimal for increased gas mileage, safety, and easier unexpected braking

I really like your videos. I own a G4 ES but I abuse mine a lot more than you do. On the highway I might do 75-80. I do live in Pennsylvania though.
That is quite fast! Do you change the CVT oil every 30,000 miles?
I rarely use cruise control. I just don't care for it.
Most don't use it, I'm surprised, as it saves a bit of fuel.
You say you're driving like a normal person in this video ... 😆
I think so! I am not going 55 tops, I am going all the way up to 69 MPH! ;o

Yes! It does... Kind of. I sent you a screenshot of what it says. (:
As someone with a kei car that has a 660cc engine, and can reach 130km/h with no problems, this video seems a little unnecessary lol.
