    I was there, I had a great time! I just didn't want it to end. And I was a little disappointed they didn't do whole wide world. I was really hoping they would do one hit to the body, but they might never do that one again. All in all, they were awesome as always 👍🏻🎸

    After watching your review of opening night of the Hackney Diamonds Tour, I watched the whole concert on TH-cam. The sound and visual quality of the footage was excellent. I came away from it in agreement with most of your review. First and foremost, Mick is a human marvel. I have never seen any other octogenarian, in person or on film, move like the Energizer Bunny - with rhythm. He just keeps going and going, all the while singing as if his voice is as immune to the aging process as his body is. He still holds stadium-size audiences in the palm of his hand, just as he did some six decades ago. I can’t imagine anyone doubting that he is the greatest frontman in rock ‘n’ roll history. As for the other two remaining members of The Rolling Stones, I found them to be mostly underwhelming, though I liked Keith’s performance of “Little T & A,” which was a very welcome surprise on the setlist (IMHO). Aside from his performance of that number, Keith looked, to me, like he was barely playing. Ronnie’s lackluster solos made me long for Mick Taylor. I agree with you regarding how the rhythm section was slow on some songs, most glaringly obvious on “Gimme Shelter.” I especially missed Charlie on that one. But Darryl and Steve did, as you said, roll as well as rock on other songs. The ancillary players all were top notch, contributing greatly to the overall excellent sound of most of the songs. In particular, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” was a show stopper. The Stones don’t need to bring out Lady Gaga for it when they hit L.A. (as has been rumored) because Chanel Haynes was spectacular on it (IMHO). The other songs on the setlist were pretty much what I expected, though “Get Off of My Cloud,” “Rocks Off” and ESPECIALLY “Out of Time” were the unanticipated gems that I love. I’m also happy that the super fun “Mess It Up” was chosen from Hackney Diamonds, from which I think there should be more than just three songs. The Stones, especially by this point in the band’s career, should be bold enough to include more. I, for one, would be happy if two more new tunes replaced “Start Me Up” (which is such an obvious and overplayed opener) and “Miss You” (which despite being super popular is not, in my opinion, a masterpiece like “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” etc. Assuming this is the Stones’ last tour, I say the band should go back to its “bad boy; we don’t back down” roots and play “Brown Sugar” as the opening song. (Anyone who knows the song and knows The Stones’ history knows that the song is a narrator’s account of what actually took place during one of the most despicable times in America’s history. A time that should never be forgotten.The onus to get the facts is on the individual. I’ll always be disappointed that “Brown Sugar” was canceled because Mick lacked conviction and the courage to stand by it.)

      I haven't seen the whole concert beyond those opening songs I saw, but yea it wasn't the same Keith it seems. Perhaps he was under the weather or something. Maybe just showing his age. It's so apparent because of the marvel of Mick Jagger - the guys not even human...lol. How he does it, I can't conceive. I did think Little T&A was pretty great though. Yea between the two of them, certain songs (Sympathy for example) are crying out for a good guitar solo....which doesn't come anymore. I guess we have the legendary guitar weaving....but for me nothing beats a great lyrical musical guitar solo. Well we have the albums with Mick Taylor especially. Still what I saw I really enjoyed.

    I watched the whole show, and then more clips from other posters. Wow. Yes, I have to agree with all the comments about Sir Mick - he's just SO impressive. Keith looked even more faded than in the past (I was gingerly expecting him to really mess up) but what really hit me was Ronnie: he seemed to be really off his game, and not moving well. I did a little reading on line, and found that he's had a couple of bouts of cancer in his lungs - one so serious that a portion of his left lung was removed. That may explain it. I liked "Mess It Up" more than I thought I would. I think some of the older tunes - Start Me Up, and Miss you as one other commenter said - should be let go. But, really, for these dudes to be putting on a two hour show is not small feat. Bravo!

      I think Mick is beyond human - he's incredible and approaching 81 years of age. Unbelievable. Keith does look older and I hope he is well. Ronnie has been through a lot over the last few years. Cancer bouts and big surgeries. Both of their guitar abilities have been declining over the years. Due to health and aging it's to be expected. With everything, from what I saw looked like a good performance and it's only the opening show. Usually gets better over time as well. We will see. I am looking forward to the show I'm seeing to come.

      Absolutely Tarr - Once when I saw the Stones in 1981, they were playing Let It Bleed. They got completely lost and literally stopped the song and did it again. And I LOVED it. It's live, it's raw and it usually works but sometimes the wheels fall off. And that's what live music is supposed to be about. This lip synching / playing to tracks has got to stop and the artists who do must be called out. It's called FRAUD in my book. The "Eagles" or current incarnation - are you kidding me. They're famous for their vocals and it's FAKE!!! At their prices. Unbelievable. Yep - leave it to The Stones at their age to still play live. Warts and All - I'll take it - perfection is for the albums. But that's the world we live in. I scream at the TV when I see the fucking Grammys do it. The award show for music and it's to backing tracks - INSANE.

    I'm surprised they performed 'Get off My Cloud'. The only live version I've heard was the 'Love You Live' 1976 concert. It's a song they obviously played when released, but not played as often as 'Satisfaction'. Now, 'Out of Time', is a deep cut on the UK version of Aftermath. Not sure if they ever played that live (of course, I haven't heard EVERY live performance of the Stones). Unless you have and played the Aftermath album, younger fans may not even know it's a Stones song (or they think it's a new song!).
    I've seen Keith with his gnarly/arthritic fingers. There's no way he is as nimble on the guitar as he used to be. I'm assuming Ron Wood had pretty much taken over the lead guitar spot over the past few years.
    Can you tell if there were extra musicians on stage to fill out the sound or was it basically the Stones with backup singers? I know viewing a video from a camera is not ideal, but the sound can give you some hint, maybe?

Always surprised about Get Off Of My Cloud - a relative rarity live. I saw it in '75 and No Security tour - always great live. They have the two keyboard players, they've had for decades - Leavell and Clifford and the horns - that's all I saw. @@user-tr4jj9pt7x It was a different musical world back then. In the 70's and 80's, FM radio would play new songs and sometimes new albums in their entirety. Fans wanted to hear the new stuff. Now radio will not play new music from classic rock artists. I've talked about this on other videos many times. It's a disgrace. Now with the enormous cost of tickets, service charges etc, the bands cater to the general audience, which wants to hear the four songs they know and can later on tell their friends they saw Satisfaction, Paint It Black and the few others they know. so I’m guessing they’re not playing midnight rambler anymore??? it’s a huge show highlight for me! it was noticeably absent, but I also noticed they only gave Texas 18 songs as opposed to 19 songs they give other cities, so hopefully they keep it on their other shows, as well as keep “out of time” as a regular song on every show, if you ask me it’s a great replacement for brown sugar, and Keith actually sounded great on “little t&a” as opposed to when they last played it in 2016, as for the hackney diamonds songs, I feel they will swap out sweet sounds and/ or mess it up at every show, and keep angry at every show, but mick sounded and looked tired at this show, I watched every clip and the full show and he just looked off compared to the previous tour, hopefully they progress through the tour, and get back into things, I mean after all, it’s been a year since they last toured and they’re 80 and their late 70s so I’ll cut them some slack, and the I personally liked the no filter stage more better.

      A few others have also said they felt Mick looked and sounded tired. I only saw the first third from a cell phone - I didn't really see that, at least at that point. I can't imagine them deleting Sweet Sounds. I can see them swapping out Mess It Up. I'd like to see Whole Wide World. I can see them reinserting a 2nd Keith song and my guess would be Tell Me Straight, so another song from Hackney. I sure hope they keep Out Of Time in, the one song I want to see more than any.

  • @anthonyaswe4174
    @anthonyaswe4174 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great perspective Alan...I did not watch any of the ubiquitous cell phone video postings...just because that sort of thing isn't 'my thing' (i.e. Hey, here it is right now, isn't this cool, I'm here, I'm cool, look at this...), but I did catch some of (what I thought was) a live stream of the show from another podcast--and I was hearing tunes that were NOT on the setlist, so I'm not sure what that was about, since I was only dropping in intermittently...perhaps they were rehearsals, I really don't know...BUT regarding the set list itself:
    --only 18 songs, including encores? Really? You have one of the biggest catalogs in popular music history--and we're starting to approach a 90 minute show? Yes, I know a lot of the tunes have a long run time, and it probably is going to top out at 2 hours max, much like the No Filter shows. But still, if you want to play a good chunk of your standards, then you're going to have to commit to a 2-2 1/2 hour performance. I know, easy for me to say.
    --only one song by Keith? I don't get it....this other podcast I was listening to, I swore I heard Before they Make Me Run and Wanna Hold You, at different intervals! I was beginning to think Keith did multiple songs throughout the set! Why the hell not???
    --a couple of glaring omissions on the standard/classic side: no Midnight Rambler, always one of my favorites, and to me, one of their defining songs; no Street Fighting Man; no Only Rock 'n Roll; no Happy--to me, all of them are 'must do's'. And I'm still mad about Brown Sugar.
    --not enough of Hackney Diamonds. Play the new album, will ya? When we chatted before, I think I predicted 3 songs at most, and sure enough, that's it. I mean, if they actually played more of it, my feeling is more people would buy/download/stream the dang thing, and it would have a bigger presence in the market. But, just keep ignoring your newer music and let people continue to think its irrelevant. And I understand you're not going to play the whole album, but they could have at least done 5 tunes from the thing.
    That being said, I hope the performance, sound, is as good as others are saying it is. I don't mean to complain, I just like to see them keep up the standard they deserve. And good points about their Super Bowl show way back when, Alan...the days of live bands playing that thing are done--in fact, I guess they never really happened, save for them.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thanks Anthony. I hear you. The set was a big short for the last few years. And Keith doing only one song is....strange. My gut, and I could be wrong, is they were dealing with a curfew of some sort. No doubt, I think they'll add a fourth song - Tell Me Straight - the Keith song from Hackney Diamonds I suspect will be his 2nd live song and 4th from Hackney. When it comes to War Horses - they have so many - some have to be cut to allow new and some deeper cuts. Personally I'm fine without IORR, Happy (I'd rather see Little T&A nowadays), Street Fighting Man and even Midnight Rambler. Rambler is of course incredible live and a defining Stones classic. In fact NO other band could come up with Midnight Rambler. Its soooo Stones. But with that said, with a 2 hour show....remove 12 minutes of Rambler for 3 songs...I'm ok with that. Plus to me, Rambler is made for arenas - it's so intense. Plus I miss Mick laying on the stage and whipping it with his belt...lol.

    Should I watch this… if it is still up? It’s not like they are likely to come to either country I live. Stockholm, I think might be a possibility but closest might just as likely be Hamburg.

      I gotta figure they'l do a final go round in the UK / Europe area - a final goodbye at some point.

      Often considered possibly the greatest Super Bowl performance. Every performance except the Stones was played to tape. "if it ain't live, its Memorex"..lol

    Rolling Bones need a few more guitar players or orchestra to slow not moving energy not there I realize there old but if they would have seen how The Who add to there show more music less screens and timed better . Stones are great and respect the try it’s not for money that’s forsure songs are timeless ❤🎉

      I always said I would love to see the Stones do a true unplugged with like a small orchestra or string section. Amongst my all time favorites are so many Stones ballads. I think it would be a really cool and great thing to do. Will never happen though I’m sure.

      I'm still loving Hackney - but yea Mess it Up - good song, but I still think it's sound less organic than the others - work went into that song to make it "work" to my ears. I could live without it live.

    Love the Stones, however Houston was weak. Jagger’s voice was very thin. Hopefully they get a bit better, however it does feel that they grow weaker and more worn out with each tour. It feels threadbare at the moment.

      Sorry to hear that. The parts I saw on video Jagger sounded really good. Considering his age and constant stage motion, extraordinary. But I guessing you were there so that’s a bit upsetting.
