It’s actually pretty nice to see more things come from this game seeing as how most people throw it off to the side as that one golf spin off Hal made for the Kirby series
Remember, once you get to Kirby superstar ultra ALWAYS CHECK THE PAUSE SCREENS!!! The pause screens have all the lore and story so you wouldn’t want to miss out on that!
Fun fact about Dream Land 3, it’s not just Samus making cameos from other series, but plenty of other characters too. The most recognisable ones nowadays besides Samus is probably R.O.B. the SNES accessory and Professor Hector from Gyromite, although R.O.B. is much more well known as a fighter in Smash now. Like a lot of things in the Kirby series, none of these cameos are ever explained, but I like to think of them as something similar to the Dream Friends in Star Allies, where Kirby breaks the fourth wall to summon characters from other games to help him.
With Kirby Superstar, Sakurai said "No, cooking isn't enough" and he prepared an entire five star _gourmet_ course. Chef kisses. Still one of the best Kirb gaems, specially in its _Ultra_ iteration.
This was one of the only Super Nintendo games that I was able to get brand new in stores. I got my SNES (Jr) new in Christmas of 1998. So I remember being taken to Hills and I picked this out because I liked the cover. I was like 5 years old at the time, but I still remember this magical experience.
Having grown up in the DS and Wii era, Superstar Ultra was my introduction to Kirby. And I have to agree that both the original and the remake (Which, that Mansion mode still wasn't implemented in. Missed opportunity.) are perfect 10s of games.
The Rainbow Sword does appear later in the series! In Kirby: Planet Robobot MetaKnightmare Returns and the True Arena, Dark Matter clone uses the rainbow sword!
Kirby's SNES and Game Boy games were a big part of my childhood. And yes, I played a lot of 2-player Dream Course with my dad, I mastered the UFO powerup and used it to take all the stars and sink the hole. I'd use my powerups to make my dad fall asleep and lose a turn. I sure knew how to play dirty.
Great video! Lol I can't believe the infamous Dr. Robonic's mean bean machine was also 2 other games as well. Awesome cameo by Samus in Kirby's final SNES game too
One thing interesting about Kirby Super Star Stacker was that it actually came out first via the Nintendo Power flash-cart service in 1998, getting a standard cartridge release later
I used to play Kirby's Dream Course with my younger brother and he would scream and cry while I casually beat the shit out of him, we also had fun playing the game
Dreamcourse/ Bowl is an amazing game that more people to appreciate. It has a surprising amount of finesse physics that work for being an isomorphic snes/sfc game.
Hey! Loved the video! Though, I just wanted to correct you on something. The rainbow sword DOES actually return in Planet Robobot. The Dark Matter clone uses it.
errrrm...... im pretty sure that game isnt real... what you probably were trying to refer was qwirks presented by alexey pahitnov creator of tetris for the nintendo pc you big DUMMY
On the point of the witch Gryll being a reference, I always assumed the name was in reference to the witch from Icelandic folklore, Gryla. She cooks bad children at Christmas for her lazy husband's meals, btw.
When you do get into the lore stuff (which began proper under the latest director), I think it'll be very important to take into account the meta-history of the series, as a lot of worldbuilding and character arcs are the newer team paying homage to random earlier details in the series. I hope once you get to the modern era you see that love that HAL has for Kirby's legacy, it's my favorite aspect of the series, and as you said, existed even from the beginning with how packed full of detail and polish the early games are! The "lore" is kinda just a product of that love being explored through a pretty eccentric new director lol.
Finally, someone who's Kirby knowledge rivals my own. This is great, man. Very entertaining video, start to finish. Dream Land 3 was my introduction to Kirby, and I've been a fan ever since...and Super Star is still one of the best ever made.
I would never bash you, Mentok. I've learned so much about my favorite games from your channel alone. I'm looking forward to our return to Legend of Zelda, and would really like to see you cover Fire Emblem! But since Fire Emblem has multiple stories and settings, I figure that might be difficult. Keep producing. You and your team are incredible and I am glad that you exist, and make these videos. ^.^
13:21 UHM ACKSHUALLY, the rainbow sword appears in the fight against the dark matter clone in kirby planet robobot, just wielded by dark matter instead of the player🤓
37:27 -There is a fan hypothesis that Dreamland is litterally linked through spacetime to the rest of the Ninetendo mutliverse through the characters dreams. Either these are all different realities, different periods on a single timeline or a mix and Dreamland is an in between demention to them all, unifying them. This was first hypothesized thanks to the Gameboy games since the development team tended to reuse assets and give nods to each other. Links awakening is one of these games taking place in the dream of the windfish. It is also on an island and features enemies like AntiKirby as well as refeences to Mario. MarioLand 2:Six Golden Coins ALSO takes place on an island and features enemies form the Kirby series. It is not directly recognized as occuring within a dream. People have, however pointed out the odd tone and continuity shifts of this one that resemble the US super Mario Bros 2 which DID occur in a dream. The belief is that this is a dream or nightmare of possibly Wario or Mario after the first Mario land Adventure. Dreamland, especially in the gamboy game of Kirby's Dreamland 2, despite having popular as the main home of Kirby, expands across a galactic space made up of many islands tethered in an oceanic void. This is potentially an Astral plane and each of the "islands" is a different being's dream. Each boss is likley the dreamer in their true or an Astral form. Even characters that seem more exclusive to Kirby wind up haveing similar counterparts in both gameboy and home consol versions. Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright greatly resemble the Moon from SML2:6GC and the Sun enemy of SMB 3. Lolo and Lala are characters from their own game. Trees with faces like wispy woods are not unfamiliar in Mario or Yoshi games. Every character that can dream will manifest in Dreamland as they do so on their own little island world where the natural residents can interact with them or they can even interact with each other. The initial hypothesis to start this stated that the games of Links awakening, Kirby's Dreamland 2 and SML2:6GC are actually all occuring simultaneously, or close in linear time to each other within Dreamland but on seperate islands. They were so close to each other but so far..the final boss of Link's Awakening is even a manifested nightmare creature like the final boss of KDL2. Because the events of Mario land seem to have really happened in the Mario continuity to some degree but Wario clearly used some kind of Magic to transform things on the island (liek the castle into a nightmare version) that we never see him use again, it's possible this was the crux. Wario perhaps used some kind of nightmare magic in his attempt to get vengence on Mario and thus created a rift between the "real" world and Dreamland. This sent subsequent ripples, infecting Dreamland with multiple nightmare beings that attacked both DeeDeeDee and the Windfish. Regaurdles on this point, the main idea is that Dreamland acts as a realm where all Nintendo beings go in their sleep and thus Samus would be able to meet Kirby but it likley would be like you waking up after a hot pepper pizza binge and recalling meeting Abraham Lincoln while he was in a wrestling match with Chuck Norris. It would have made some sense while you were there but you'd just recall it as a dream after..what little you may actually even recall. To each of the characters, Kirby is just some weird creature they see in their dreams but likley don't even realize shows up in all of each others dreams. Another interesting aspect of this is that Shiver Star is indeed supposed to be a post apocalyptic version of earth with HR-H being the boss. This would potentially make the robot the dreamer. Could this be an avatar of villain who wants to rule and empty world? (It has some resemblance to Eggman Reobots..cross continuity refrence? Sonic Dreams joke?) Or..Could it be a robot who dreams of a world out of its normal role? I feel there are plenty of possible characters that could fit..especially Porky from Mother 2/3. Porky does wind up living for eternity, trapped in a safety chamber of a rolling robotic bedlike device and has used other robotic bodily replacements. At the end of Mother 3 when you travel to the end of the universe, you bump into what is infered to be his still trapped nut seemingly happy self. In all the time he still exists post apocalyse, could Porky be dreaming of something simialr but where he has more agency? It's a huge stretch but fun to think about.
10:22 why is it even called Dream Land 2 when it has more in common with Adventure than Dream Land? Just because it’s on the GameBoy? That would make sense if Dream Land 3 wasn’t an SNES game!
Mentok, I want you to know that I am the resident expert on TH-cam when it comes to "Metroid" lore. I retired back in 2018, but will come out of retirement if you ever want to collaborate on something "Metroid" related.

Snes era kirby ruled. Dreamland 3 is an underrated gem, dream course has amazing multiplayer, and super star is maybe the best game in the series?

Kirby's Dream Land 3's final boss is like "Rated E for EEEEEEEEEEEYUP that happened".
Pretty much
Rated E for Exploding eye
One thing that kinda blew my mind when I first heard about it: there's a company a few towns over from where I live named Dyna Brade... with an R.

Dreamland 3’s artstyle and aesthetic is perfect
So true, absolute perfection...might be my most nostalgic SNES game 💖🥹
I love Kirby's lines in Kirby's avalanche, he's so threatening "i'll breathe your pathetic bombs and send them right back at you!"
It is similar to the high temper of kitsy kat
Tip: you’ll find most of the lore going forward by pausing the game during boss fights
Noted!
One of my favourite things about the snes Kirby games is actually Kirby’s design it’s honestly my favourite design for him
Especially the cheeks
100%
I used to play Kirby's Dream Course with my younger brother and he would scream and cry while I casually beat the shit out of him, we also had fun playing the game
This was so cool! Can't wait for the next installment of Kirby lore and exploration 😆
Remember playing Kirby pinball and wishing they made a Kirby platform game

Kirby Superstar is my favorite of this era, but Dreamland 3 is so GORGEOUS!
Kirby's Avalanche is actually a port of a game known as "Squishy Splat" (Known as Puyo Puyo in asia) which is a game based on the cartoon "Kitsy Kat"
One of Kirby's reoccurring antagonists is a tree. That's crazy enough for me.
Samus and pit definitely share the same universe since in uprising there are definitely space pirates and metroid looking enemies
Awesome video, dude! Kirby games are so much fun.
