Moving to northern Nicaragua last year was the best thing Ive done. Canada is even more expensive than the US especially in Ontario which is completely insane now and where I was. Nicaragua is one of the safest places in the world. Living the nica way is very cheap, but you have to be usted to. For american, canadian or european, it will be more expensive. With 1500/month you can live easily. In the south, let say close to San Juan del Sur, everything is more expensive. Prices are for tourists and you have to struggle to pay a decent price.
WE can obviously live like a KING & QUEEN in NICARAGUA....with the kind of MONEY we are currently spending in the USA. I teally appreciate your videos.

The USA is the BIGGEST SCAM on planet Earth nowadays. The buildings in the USA are old and OUTDATED...but they don't want the people in Central America to OWN anything. That's why they talk so BAD about us.

It should be noted that electricity can be more expensive than in the US. This only really becomes a significant part of your budget if you use air conditioning. But, in most parts of Nicaragua, you will want air conditioning, if only at night in your bedroom. My experience was that air conditioning added 100-200 dollars per month to my utility bill to cool the bedroom at night. Some rental places may not have newer and more efficient air conditioning systems, so consider that before you rent.
I appreciate the channel and information you share. I’m from Seattle, Washington. I’ve been here in Managua for the last three weeks now. Many channels talk about the affordable cost, but I do not see it as a foreigner. Not sure where to find realtors that show local homes. I’ve only been able to find foreign realtors who charge american prices for the properties down here. Can you help provide resources to help people on your channel find accommodations as affordable as yours? Thank you!
We found Nicaragua to be expensive as well! Basic food is OK if purchased from a market. You have to eat like a local. We found that most cafes & restaurants that had a menu in USD were expensive. Sadly, the problem is created by tourists & expats driving up the prices. It's the same in Guatemala. We are now in Paraguay and it's a lot cheaper!
Hi Jay! Facebook market place or encuentra24.com you can find local deals for places for rent or items for sale. Managua usually is more pricey, you would have to venture out and explore other areas.
Expat areas are generally more expensive, like in any other country. I found exploring outside of the tourist area you can find local prices which is fair. Cheers! Paraguay sounds awesome.

Hi , I do wish you and your family all the best . My wife and myself are both seniors and don’t speak Spanish. Nicaragua is in our thoughts. Your advice would be appreciated.
Don't get scared off by language - I'm a senior, arrived on Noca 1.1/2 weeks ago & the only word literally I knew was Hola (hello) we have stopped with 2 non-english speaking host families & 1 family with mixed English skills - the culture to help others is so amazing we have had long conversations into the nights, sometimes with long periods before checking Google translate - Never to late to give things a go :-)
I get just over $2000/mo in social security. I pay for food, gasoline, electricity, water, Wi-Fi, cable tv, a handyman, a housekeeper, feed 5 dogs and still have money to save . I live in the Jinotega department and grow coffee as well. It’s a hell of a lot better than that sludge from Starbucks. I’ve found the health care system pretty adequate. I get all my drugs for free. Can you find work there as an American ? I’m a Military Vet and an electrician by trade . I’ve had a contractors license here in Ca for years . I’m so over the states . I’m trying to get my military claim now and if it is approved o would love to move there . I spent time in Panama while in the military back in the 80’s & 90’s. As I stated in a previous text , I had a simple heart procedure done at a VA Hosp in San Francisco and have had issues ever since . I’m 57 now and who knows how long I have to live . It would be so nice to be able to spend what time I have left in Paradise . I can dream about it . I really enjoy your videos 👍🏼
You can run a business in Nicaragua, but getting a work permit to work for other people requires finding the right employer who'll say that you have skill not available in Nicaragua. If you have an income from a military retirement, live on that and see about teaching electrician skills to Nicaragua. Wiring here can be interesting.
@@EmenseCoffee You're doing a wonderful job by providing great content. I've noticed that many younger people are interested in relocating but are uncertain about securing an income. Perhaps you could enlighten them on the opportunities available by exporting Nicaraguan products, or selling on Etsy, etc.
I'm a Nicaraguan born and raised in the Capital, Managua. I'll only ad that usually in the largest cities food might be more expensive, since you are in the North, you are so close to where food is grown hence it's cheaper and fresher. The opposite happens when it comes to health services, I use the public option always and so far I have no complains, my social security allows me to use a private hospital (Hospital Bautista) for me and my family, no hassle, no major issues, however, I obviously recognize that ouside the Capital city the services are not as good and they lack everything, it's unfair as the deductions we get out of our salaries are the same in the whole country, however, I recognize that someone from Siuna or the "Mining Triangle" have to deal with poor facilities, lack of personnel or lack of medicine, etc.
my wife and I would like to retire on or near the ocean we are coming from the US and we love our coffee in the morning could you recommend some beach towns thanks
Love your videos. I applaud your decision to do what you are doing. My plan has been to move to the north (further north than most expats would move) and wait for my house to sell here...which is not happening in this economy... I am hopefully coming for a short trip in the next few months, looking for potential long-term rentals for the future. As you know, this is a very hard thing to get info on, especially in rural areas. If you have info or can facilitate some connections, I would be more than glad to pay for the help. I am presently looking at Quilali and that northern area. Please let me know if you are interested! Looking forward to more videos.
Hi Kevin! Thank you. I use facebook marketplace or encuentra24.com for searching that's where you can find some. I do suggest coming to travel the north area staying at hotels to explore the streets. You can find homes for rent with signs outside that are not online. good luck! you can DM me on instagram if you anymore questions.
I've gotten all my rentals through either a shopkeeper (first) or a hotel owner friend. Also, walking around and seeing signs, and getting a Nicaraguan to check the price.
I was born and raised my childhood in Nicaragua and raised my preteen and teen years in the states. I live in Florida with my husband and two kids. Florida is so expensive now it’s becoming comparable to California (no lie). I would say that it sounds so desirable to move there with the low cost of living. I work in corporate America. What kind of jobs would you say are available for people wanting to relocate?
@@EmenseCoffee yes that’s the number one issue. If you don’t have a job going there you have no income. I admire people that make the move but you have to have something to back you up.
Could you let me know what area of the Northern part of Nicaragua you live in? Or could you recommend a town or towns to look at in that area? I'm planning to move to Nicaragua as soon as I can possibly do so hopefully within the next two months or less
What are your thoughts on police/politics? I know it's a touchy subject but most importantly since there has been unrest in recent years, is it safe for tourists right now?
Extremely safe!! Don’t get involved in the politic world that’s all. But Nicaragua along with Costa Rica is one of the safest countries in Central America. We’re moving back pretty soon, the kids complain in the U.S. is the school shootings, something they never worried about in Nicaragua.
. I don't about costa rica though. I know 🇳🇮 Nicaragua is one of the safest countries around the planet. The media in the U.S with the " bad propaganda" is what put the country in bad image. Imagine that with the internet and high technology people still believe 🇳🇮 Nicaragua is on cold war.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. How's stupid that?😂😂😂. The Soviet Union is still having a cold war with 🇺🇸 USA😂😂😂😂😂. Poor woke and brain washed people. On the other hand the U.S press does not say anything negative about the two narcos coutries costa Rica and 🇨🇴 colombia where safety for tourists is huge. In Costa rica hit man kill 20 people a day. Kidnapping and armed robbery happens on the daily basis. Beside banana ticos are xenophobic against 🇳🇮 nicaraguans people.
Your residency as a foreigner requires staying out of local politics. They've got a brochure that explains what sort of things will get you deported when you get your first cedula of residency for foreigners.
Very interesting indeed. But what about the safety in general? Because I'm looking at the safety index, and it doesn't look too great. Just asking. THX !
It's like any number of other places. Some areas are as safe as Europe (Boaco and Chontales); some places are as safe as Detroit (couple of places on the Caribbean coast). Good neighbors are extremely useful.
Nope. Honduras and El Salvador have the closest Mayan ruins. One maybe Mayan foundation in the far north. Here was closer connected to Mexico or Colombia (east coast tribe).
Dude what did you for remote work ? I’m here currently trying to buy a house and a camioneta and move over there permanent and I’m studying to get a job remote.
@@EmenseCoffee I have yet to visit either country, but they’re both on my radar for getting residency or living abroad! I also am looking at Ecuador, and the Philippines. Nicaragua has a lot going for it. I like that Nicaragua is close to the USA, low cost of living/Rent, and it sounds like it’s a safe place to live. 😊
We have lived in Nicaragua and we now live in Paraguay. We have been in Paraguay for 4 months. We loved Nicaragua - it is gorgeous! The challenge we had was the residency visa. We didn't want to do border runs every 3 months! It really depends on your work/financial situation. We didn't qualify for a retiree or rentista visa. We did actually consider the investor visa but after doing our homework decided it wasn't a good idea. The real crunch was when they changed the cedula (govt ID) for visa holders. You now need to renew your cedula in Managua every 6 months. Sadly, they don't tell you that on all the relocation websites & channels. Paraguay is very different to Nica. Lots more European expats here. The visa is much easier to obtain. The govt is very stable. Two year temporary visa that you then renew to a permanent resident visa. Paraguayans are incredibly welcoming and friendly. We also find it cheaper. If you want more info on life in Paraguay check out our blog adirtcheaplife.com. So it all depends what your idea of paradise is 😁😁
@@christopherhouse7937 Just my two cents... I almost moved to Ecuador. I traveled there first a couple of years ago, loved it, but also noticed the great wealth divide. Since then, the prisons are burning, the cartels have risen up and started killing even government officials, and just two days ago, nearly all the populated areas experienced black-outs. Too dangerous for me, but it was once one of the best places IMHO. The Philippines is the shake-down capital of the world for expats. I know more than one person who retired there, met a 'lovely lady' (and her entire family) and was broke in about three years! If you like the Philippines, you can keep it.

High, but for around a year, the prices have been frozen. As for safety, come down here, go to one of the northern cities (Jinotega, Matagalpa, or Esteli, and spend a few days. One advantage of renting rather than buying is that your landlord knows how to get repairs made. If your Spanish is very good, this isn't as necessary, but work people Spanish isn't quite like US high school and college Spanish.
sorry I meant per week actually :( ,in Florida but insurance out of Georgia thru my company. We are going to be moving to Nica here shortly tho. Selling house, cars and everything!! going ALL IN
You my friend are getting gringo prices with all that you’re paying in Nicaragua, anyone from Nicaragua can pay half of what you’re paying for the same quality of life.
I wouldn't bet on that. Gringo prices are maybe a bit higher, but when I rented my first place, I paid slightly less than the Nicaraguan family in the other side of the house. Current house is $230 for three bedrooms, a study, kitchen, and good sized front room and a nice sized central courtyard. I've had a Nicaraguan workman suggest $200 would be what a Nicaraguan paid. I dunno.
@@RebeccaOre thing is this, if they see you’re from the US, they’ll hike the price, it has even happened to be several times but they end up giving me the right price, since I live in the US my accent is slightly off, they they hike the price. Example I was just in Masaya and bought a wallet, as soon I asked how much they said $950 cordobas. I told him “viejo no jodas me ves cara de gringo o que?” He went down to $350 cordobas and said he was joking..
Just wait a couple of years. The dollar is about to crash. Everything will change then. No more cheap living for the gringos anywhere. The rural farm living in the USA itself would be the best and cheapest.
I do realize we are in a blessed position. Although I see everything here in Nicaragua, from really poor to middle class and rich. Similar to what I use to see in the US.
You could be murdered at any time aywhere outside the first world but when the great financial reset or ww3 pops off nicaragua might be safer.. living out in the middle of knowhereis likely safer than cities.
There is a religious freedom. There is not prohibition if cult or mass. It is true that some priests have been banned from de country, but because they have been involved in politics ( not correct), but that it is. There in NOT religious persecution.
The religous freedom to wreck the streets? The opposition collected photos and videos from other countries and claimed these things were happening here. TinEye found the lies. If you stay out of politic and are cynical about the propaganda, and don't try to tell Nicaraguans how to run their country, and don't mistake a struggle over money and power for democracy, you'll be fine.

Hi! It's hard to find work as an American. I would suggest finding a remote job before coming. Or saving up!
As an electrician you would have valuable skills for neighbors.. cash is king.
Interested 👍🏼
Good point Oscar, thank you for sharing you experience.
my wife and I would like to retire on or near the ocean we are coming from the US and we love our coffee in the morning could you recommend some beach towns thanks
I just would like to know how you can stay living in Nicaragua after the 3 months visitor visa they usually give
You have to do a border run down to cost rica and renew your visa. or you can go to managua and ask for a 1 month extension.
😊Muy bueno y genial broder
Gracias amigo saludos!
Hi! Thanks for watching. I would suggest find a remote job based in the USA and move. It's hard to come find jobs here.
@@EmenseCoffee yes that’s the number one issue. If you don’t have a job going there you have no income. I admire people that make the move but you have to have something to back you up.
I’m spending 400$ Canadian per month on groceries for a family of four(two kids).
Con este frío que rico café
Lo mejor!
Could you let me know what area of the Northern part of Nicaragua you live in? Or could you recommend a town or towns to look at in that area? I'm planning to move to Nicaragua as soon as I can possibly do so hopefully within the next two months or less
Anyone know any companies currently hiring for remote positions that can be performed from Nicaragua? Really really want out.
Man I would love to move there but I have heart issues .. 😩
You can visit!
@@RebeccaOre THX Rebecca, I'm gonna look into it
How were you NOT paying anything for health insurance in the States?
Hola desde Canadá
Que tipo de trabajo puedo hacer on line desde nicaraguan
Saludos!
wow you are getting a lot of views, Hey I'm still intereseted in green beans! Are there any Mayan ruins up there in the north?
Nope. Honduras and El Salvador have the closest Mayan ruins. One maybe Mayan foundation in the far north. Here was closer connected to Mexico or Colombia (east coast tribe).
My hesitation is the mold
Wow, 55 bucks for car insurance in California? Here in Florida the average is $300..
Dude what did you for remote work ? I’m here currently trying to buy a house and a camioneta and move over there permanent and I’m studying to get a job remote.
I create content and starting a coffee business. Good luck on the move!
Was the house you're renting furnished or unfurnished?
Unfurnished!
Hi! How you doing? Hey! You are in Esteli right???
Is Nicaragua cheaper place to live than Paraguay? Anyone been to both countries! Great video… 😁
Good question, I am not sure. How did you like Paraguay and Nicaragua?
How much for cellphone service?
Do you have an email for reaching out about things like how you went about getting your home etc?
What job can I do while an American lets say via the phone or email, no pyramids or sale friends and family stuff
Are you doing cycling around your area?
Yes! I just went on a bike ride yesterday!
13000 is my SS looks like i am in
I've been here as a solo woman for less. $1000 a month is now the minimum income from SS/other gov. pensions to apply for residency.
@@RebeccaOre thank you rebecca
Atentamente, Danilo y Claudia
What city or town are you living in in North Nicaragua?
Let’s go bike bro
Whats the price of Gas & Diesel down there? And how do I convince my wife its safe?
High, but for around a year, the prices have been frozen. As for safety, come down here, go to one of the northern cities (Jinotega, Matagalpa, or Esteli, and spend a few days. One advantage of renting rather than buying is that your landlord knows how to get repairs made. If your Spanish is very good, this isn't as necessary, but work people Spanish isn't quite like US high school and college Spanish.
@@RebeccaOre dude thanks for the good reply. I’ll look into that more! Nice channel
do you use Pesco"s??
what is the dating scene like for older retirees expats.
Is rent of 250 month probable in Jinotega?
Maybe if you want a big house of course yes bro
Maybe if you want a big house of course yes bro
But if you want some cheaper u could pay 100 dollar
mannn but managua has gotten out of control in prices
Yea it's more pricey
Paying $160 month for health care thru my company for family of 3 right now
That's a good deal! what state is this?!
sorry I meant per week actually :( ,in Florida but insurance out of Georgia thru my company. We are going to be moving to Nica here shortly tho. Selling house, cars and everything!! going ALL IN

Where in Northern Nic are you?
Your rental costs will be double what he said in San Juan del Sur and Granada.
That budget is for two plus baby, right?
❤❤
Gracias!
I dunno.
@@RebeccaOre I am from Nicaragua, I am a Nicaraguan citizen.. yes I would bet 100% on what I stated..
I told him “viejo no jodas me ves cara de gringo o que?” He went down to $350 cordobas and said he was joking..
was that a gunshot at the 2:24 mark??
lol! No it was fireworks.
You must be from the US 😂
Any world compare to Comifornia is way less. You would be insane to live in California. California is not a comparison for the states.
Agreed! Let me know how it compares to where you live!!
Just wait a couple of years. The dollar is about to crash. Everything will change then. No more cheap living for the gringos anywhere. The rural farm living in the USA itself would be the best and cheapest.
Except for the crime, which had me moving away from rural Virginia.
❤❤me gusta yutube
Gracias!
To all this folks praising the good life in these other countries please pass the good word to all this people coming into the US illegally.
I do realize we are in a blessed position. Although I see everything here in Nicaragua, from really poor to middle class and rich. Similar to what I use to see in the US.
He’s is a white, privileged man. Don’t compare his living situation to migrants coming into the U.S.
Hey we’re is best online place to search for long term rentals in Nicaragua?
Yeah, sure, Nicaragua is cheaper - it's a Third World country.
Sounds great and all, but how stable is the political situation? Ortega is getting old and he’s been cracking down on some religious freedoms.
You could be murdered at any time aywhere outside the first world but when the great financial reset or ww3 pops off nicaragua might be safer.. living out in the middle of knowhereis likely safer than cities.
We had a great country and a good president but your country belive that can tell us what we had to do. Our country it's good.. you are welcome here
There is a religious freedom.
This is stupid...what city?
Are you hiring lol
lol!
