The Dreamcast didn't killed Sega making consoles. They were out of the game before it launched. They lost too much money on the Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn. This myth that the Dreamcast killed Sega is so tiring at this point.

I loved the controller, the VMU, the rumble pk (kicked harder than anything before it), the microphone w/ Seaman. The gun, plus rumble pk w/ House of the Dead 2. God, that launch was so much fun. Two specific things killed it, it was super easy to get the games and not pay for them with boot disc, also the fact that sega was already leaving the game market made it doa cause it wasn’t gonna be something with support for it in the near future. If it would’ve came out at a later time it would’ve outright not sold competing against Sony , Microsoft, and Nintendo wouldn’t have been an option for sega. Piracy and no support killed the Dreamcast, I literally still have one with all the games.

It would have did fine if piracy wasn’t big then, the reason they lost $400 million on it cause games didn’t sell, but why would the games sell when you literally could just burn them on a regular cd and make a boot disk and you have every game made for it. There’s no point it time it would have survived after the point it was released, if anything it should’ve came out before the Saturn cause the Saturn should’ve never been released.

Lol you mean exclusives that don't make any money lol. Ask Sony how they got 60 million consoles sold but ony 1.5 million people bought the game of the year exclusive!!!! Ask Square how exclusives worked out for them. You do realize businesses need to make money to stay in business and to grow!!!! Exclusives don't make money anymore because the majority of gamers don't give a damn!!!! The most played games are multiplatform games. That is where the money is. Times have changed companies that don't adapt will get left behind. Which is why Sega don't have a console today smh!!!!! You know how you compete by making more money. I bet you still watch black and white tvs or talk on corded phones smh.... Don't come for xbox because they have the best most played games, and they are letting everybody play them wherever they want!!!!!!

Ask Nintendo if exclusives don't matter to their fanbase or that no one cares about their exclusives and they dont make Nintendo any profit they only have majority exclusives most 3rd party games skip the switch the only one who has major issues selling games is Microsoft and you can thank gamepass for that because they have conditioned their hardcore fanbase not to buy games

Microsoft does not innovate they have had the exact same controller for the past 2 generations the series s I dont see anything innovative in releasing underpowered hardware that gives developers like black myth wukong a reason to skip over their platforms their mid gen refresh they just added a 2 terabyte ssd and a new paint job im still waiting for the technical deep dive so i can understand why they charge $600

    • @xxfratosxx8257
      @xxfratosxx8257 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@andraescott7470 yet that will not be sustainable for long. There aren't many kids today willing to play a Mario game over Roblox or Minecraft.
Nintendo is surviving cause of its IPs and low budget cost into software and hardware. In addition, the major part people forget is Nintendo is third party in some ways. It's not just the consoles. They have games on mobile devices, make a killing off merchandise, display of characters at theme parks like disney, and other events. They also tapping into movies like Mario. If Nintendo was console only they would have died or have to keep up with Xbox and PS. Nintendo is fine for now
Nintendo does get into trouble and quite clever when it comes to competition threats. Palworld for example, exposed and made Pokémon vulnerable. They easily won in court but now gamers are catching on to repetition. So Nintendo does have to make changes in the long run but they flaws can be easily forgettable.

Its Sega Saturn that killed Sega in the console business.
Imagine having no mainline sonic launch games even after the last years of the hardwares life cycle theres still no mainline sonic game.
Some games are japan only, lack of sports games, lack of proper rpg games and lets not forget some of the ports on the sega saturn are worst compared to PS1.
Examples are the port of Resident Evil 1 and Castlevania Symphony of the night.
Despite both having more content compared to the PS1 version graphically their worst.
To think the PS1 is both weaker than Sega Saturn and N64 but PS1 due to being easy to develop for and have full 3rd party support destroyed this 2.

In a time when the market was dominated by Playstation and Nintendo, I was one of the lucky few in my country to get a Dreamcast. Little I knew that I was getting it in its latter days, at the end of 2000 I believe. Playstation was the console I wanted back then but I got the best one without even knowing it.
I remember playing Sonic Shuffle, the unforgettable and gamechanger that was Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio in my country) and the astounding Soul Calibur. I literally grew up with these games, they are part of my late chilhood and early teenage years and I love every memory revolving around it.
I remeber keeping my lovely Chao with me on my VMU with Chao Adventure 2 when my mom was giving birth to my younger brother. Having that little thing with me when I was at a hospital late at night, not knowing if I'll see my mom again or meet my brother, it was conforting. I could shake off my bad thoughts and just focus on the joy of carrying a "friend" with me all the time.
Anf then my little brother learned to play at the age of 2 with Sonic Adventure 2, so now two generations of gamers in the family were born with this beauty.
Dreamcast might have been a comercial failure. But it means the world to me when it comes to memories about a past I cherish so much

The sega Saturn failed aswell because it didn't have a dedicated 3d processing chip and was very difficult to make 3d games, then sony showed the world ridge racer on the ps1 and that was it.

Unfortunately, being somewhat equivalent in powe with xbox left in dust way too early.

Sega didn't kill Dreamcast, it's just that others game company like PlayStation a Nintendo got everything they had and the worst part of it is that Xbox came out to make it better than Sega Dreamcast which is totally a bad idea to copy Sega Dreamcast game console.

It wasnt the dreamcast is was the sega saturn following on from a messy end to the sega genesis generation. The Dreamcast was good it just wasnt enough to fix the hole they were in
Also the lack of anti piracy measures on the dreamcast didnt help

Too much other Sega Additives during the time of the Sega Genesis reign. Should’ve kept those ideas n concepts during the Dreamcast potentially a Dreamcast 2 launch. All those other Sega systems confused the public “why would I buy that ? Etc”

Dreamcast is hands down one of the best and underrated consoles. I feel like Xbox was born from the Dreamcast. I mean look at the original Xbox. It’s very similar. With the imminent downfall of Xbox what if Sega was to reemerge again.

I always wondered what happened to Sega very interesting story. It sounds like they were not prepared for the comings changes with in the game industry they were ahead of its time as far hardware and technology but bad management decisions at that top hurt them in the long run 🤨🤔

The best selling console doesn’t mean it’s the best console. Real gamers know Sega Saturn and Dreamcast had better games. It’s generic news outlets like IGN who were bought out by Sony marketing dollars who were to blame for Sega downfall. Like you’re attempting now with this generic analysis which has some serious oversights of the situation. Also Sega are doing great now as a third party and don’t need this sort of negative spotlight for something that happened over 20 years ago.

Im sorry, maybe cause it’s retroactively but Sega sucked. They were ran by idiots.Their game developers were great but the bosses who were in charge of consoles were idiots.I can argue that only the genesis was a good console. Most kids only had enough parents money to get one console per generation.Imagine buying a Saturn or a Dreamcast to 3 years of support?Or god forbid you got your parents to buy you a 32X?

You did not even mention it was hacked within a few months with no mod chip needed A DVD drive would have saved Sega based on the fact most people purchased a PS2 to have a DVD player, and the amount of storage would have fit larger titles and games would not have been limited to just 1.2gb on GD-Roms instead of 4.7gb on DVD rom. Plus, it took me longer to hack the Dreamcast than the PS2. Also, a PS2 mod required a Messiah chip at first and I was able to boot with Utopia and eventually Self Boot under Echelon. And come at me bro I own all of the originals where do you think the dumps come from?

As someone who wasn't around during sega's hardware days, I would absolutely love another console. Sega has so many unique games besides sonic that are just simply amazing, but never got a fair chance because Sony didn't publish them. In a world where two of the three major console manufacturers don't make games, seeing sega's downfall is absolutely devastating.
