He’s the only one from the group who decided to dabble into creating an all English album which is called Golden. ALL the songs are fantastic. He has a song called 3D Ft Jack Harlow that gives off Justin Timberlake vibes when he went solo. Funnily enough Justin did a 3D remix with JK. He also has Seven ft Latto. Very UK Garage(?) someone can correct me. I’ll remind you those two I mentioned are all English but KPOP songs in general are mixed with Korean and English. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Jungkook is one of the best of this generation, if not the best. He’s incredibly talented, and the media refers to him as a "young genius polymath" or a "modern-day Renaissance man." And it’s no surprise-he has it all: amazing vocals, impressive dance moves, and most importantly, an incredible aura. Plus, he's ridiculously handsome. I highly recommend checking out his famous TSX NY guerrilla concert. His live performance is nothing short of amazing. He performed all three mega-hit singles: "Seven," "3D," and "Standing Next To You," and more. He’s well-known for having the best live vocals, so most of his clips feature him singing live. Jungkook is the main vocalist and centre of BTS and yes hes Korean-- He is seriously the best in KPOP and way ahead of everyone else. He is the first KPOP artist to have a full English album and its his debut album - now everyone's copying him in KPOP not just with coming out with English albums but also copying the videos and styling. Every track on his album is different showcasing his versatility- so comparing him to anyone else in KPOP doesn't work- his competition is western artists. BTW do yourself a favor and listen to his live performances as his vocals don't need autotune - he literally sounds even better live. Check out Seven ft Latto and 3D ft Jack Harlow - all 3 of these songs are different sounding.

Same as you I tried other k pop but not for me. BTS are different. There’s something about them that grabbed hold of me and hasn’t let go.
Last year when I was having cancer treatment (proton beam therapy) and recovering from 3 spinal surgeries. When I discovered them. They say, BTS or their members find you when you really need them and need an escape and that was it for me.
This is actually the song that sent BTS my way. The usher remix is the first thing that popped up in my timeline since I love ushers music.
His first single he released (seven) gives off major UK garage vibes and 3D gives off early 2000’s Justin timberlake vibes haha

They’re all so talent, humble and hard working. They had such a tough start in this industry and had to come up with unusual ways to survive in the industry at the start (unusual for K-pop bands). They were at a huge disadvantage and their label almost went bankrupt. They really started from the bottom then worked their way up to being the top of their game and what other groups aspire to be. Even whilst in the military, their solo work and group work are still breaking records and getting awards.

They are not really considered Kpop anymore, they are artist in a whole different class by themselves; with every member getting solo hits on the billboard charts and too many awards to count. But they are still always BTS. Jungkook's solo album Golden is filled with songs written and produced by Western artists. This song was produced by watt (American) and Cirkut (Canadian). The album is a collection of songs about the emotion of love and should be listened to in order to get the full story. One thing to note about BTS and the individual members is the attention to detail in the MVs. This song is based on the story of Romeo and Juliet, and they filmed it on location where the iconic scenes from Baz Lurnham's R & J 1996 film were shot.
BTS like to pay homage to people who have influenced them growing up and MJ is definitely one of them. The other thing about them is that they do not stick to one genre or era of music, so in answer to your question of is this what Jungkook and BTS do, the answer is No. They are a group of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, and all 7 members individually are incredibly different. Everything you go to listen to a new release from the group or individual member it is exciting because you never know what they will do next. The members are RM, Jin, Suga (aka Agust D for solo work), J Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook. I thoroughly recommend watching something from each individually before returning to the group as a whole.

You should watch the other tracks from that album. Like “Seven” or 3d”. As a 50 something listener I also dig his throwback vibe. Definitely a contemporary take on r$b, soul and hip hop.

You might listen to his “Golden”album. He doesn’t feel comfortable “speaking” English, although he works hard at it and is better than he thinks he is. My point is, although he isn’t fluent in speaking English, he took on the challenge and made an all English album. After recording his first song, “Seven”, I think, they had him listen to this song and he liked it. He learned it overnight it the next day. I think they said it took 3-4 hrs, made the touch ups to the song he laid down the previous day. That happened each day. He meant to do a mini album with 5-6 songs, but ended up finding enough songs he liked to make a full album. He would hear it one day, record it the next in 3-4 hrs, make the final touches to the song the day before and do it again with a new song. It’s crazy to me to be able to do that, especially in a language that isn’t your native tongue.

I’m also not a fan of K-pop, in general, but I love BTS because their music catalogue is so diverse and their lyricism is unparalleled. As others have mentioned, this artist is Jungkook not Jung (which is just a portion of his name). Many call him JK because it’s easier. This song was produced by Andrew Watt and Cirkut and I think they’re the main writers. JK’s debut solo album “Golden” is all English and he chose to sing songs written by western composers here because he wanted to see if he could stretch his vocal abilities to meet other producers’ styles. I would love for you to try other BTS songs both as group and solos projects. I think you will like them and agree that they are not typical K-pop. Oh, and yes BTS dances some of the hardest choreography in their industry. They’ve sort of raised the bar for the level of difficulty and size of the staging with extra dancers. In fact, they’ve changed numerous things about how K-pop artists now engage with fans, etc. You’d have to do a deep dive into K-pop history and BTS history and performances to understand what I’m talking about.

This joint...made me think of Michael Jackson off the break. The Way You Make Me Feel. The thing that is happening right now, I think across all regions, but maybe more so from Eastern artists, is that they are pulling from the 80s and 90s eras for inspiration.
Jungkook and BTS really worked hard for many years and are at a point where all of their production is top tier production, sound, and lyrics. Right now the members have focused more on their solo efforts and will probably come back together at some point now that their military service obligations are getting completed.
If you listen to Jungkook's mini album, all the tracks are pretty great. While this track took you back a bit, the other tracks not only have a little retro flavor, but also modern pop elements. I think you might like the song 3D as well, along with Seven.

After the recording was done they introduced Jung Kook to Standing Next to You. He listened/practiced the song in his hotelroom and recorded it the day after in 4 hours. This was intentionally an homage to Michael, they talk about it how it was intended on the choices all over the record. Since it was a presentation of Jungkook as a solo artist ( even though Seven was his pre release track and actual debut single) they wanted to show his influences, his vocal mastery and his projection for the future of his career as a soloist. He actually was shown this song by producer Watt and JK loved it, recorded it in only 4 hours! He is a really, really talented singer. He sounds exactly as you hear on record while singing live. I would recommend for you to check any of his live performances, maybe the TSX guerrilla concert in Times Square or any you can find. Since you like XG, maybe start with their rap songs like Tear, Ddaeng, Cypher pt 3 or 4. Jungkook's other solo songs are a bit more pop, but they're a good listen (3D with Jack Harlow and Seven with Latto).

Your comment about the guy vs. girl group dancing struck me as ironic. I actually have had the opposite idea. Aside from a very few girl groups (New Jeans, Twice, 2NE1, and mainly Lisa), I always thought that the girl group choreography was very stiff. To me, it seems like they were only moving from the hips up unless it was doing the occasional seductive move. It might be the studios' idea, given that the poor girls are dressed in very short, tight clothes and very high heels. It's been getting better, but it still is prevalent. I like BTS because even if they are fully capable of going all out choreo wise for every song, they have up tempo songs that have easier (for them) choreos.
Dance aside, and trust me, it's a heavy aside. Their true magic is in the songs themselves. All seven are gifted songwriters and gifted producers. The rap line especially are wizards with beats.
I grew up immersed in US music ranging from Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw to American Bandstand and TRL. I even have an ear on today's music landscape here, thanks to my daughter. But this group blindsided me two years ago, and I've happily never looked back.

Jung Kook has been the Main Vocalist of BTS (South Korean, but also have some Japanese) since their debut in June 2013 (and at the age of 15 at that time). He also has been a Lead Dancer. (they have Main and then Lead). In 2023 he did his first Solo Album, which this was off of, and it is All in English and All largely produced by Western artists like Andrew Watt, for example. His album is called GOLDEN and I think you'll like it. Standing Next to You was a tribute to Michael Jackson. The backup dancers are all well-known choreographers mostly from the West. Brian Puspus is one of them and he worked with BTS in the past. I don't remember all of their names, but someone might. He has 2 other MV's off that album - 1 is SEVEN (featuring Latto), and the other 1 is 3D (ft. Jack Harlow). He also did a remix with Usher for Standing Next to You, just before he had to go to mandatory military in South Korea. He and the rest of BTS will all be out in June 2025. Two of the 7 members are out already. I'm in the US and in my 60's and BTS have a tight grip on me. I absolutely love them for their versatility and talent. ALL 7 members are unique and super-talented in different ways and they are amazing when they come together.

There is so much info on them, and all the famous people who they have worked with and produced for. How did JK find them? I don't know. However, there is a U.S. Hybe office now. It's headed by Scooter Braun. Yes. That Scooter who helped Justin Bieber and others to fame. Hybe, BTS's company, formally Big Hit, bought out Scooter and all his clients. So Justin works for Hybe now, just like BTS. I think these producers were recommended by someone in Scooter's connections. And Mr. Bang, BTS's founder lives in LA now. He knows everybody too. He was formerly the CEO of Big Hit then Hybe. But retired to just be the CEO of Big Hit to continue on with just the music, his forte. It's my guess. And to answer your question...YES that was JK's intention. You got it!

I tried to give you a smattering of genres and also a chance to watch each member on their own. You have no idea how difficult it is to keep the list under 10. Once we have a sense of what you like, we can suggest other songs from their catalogue because ALL of the members are multitalented and they cross genres seamlessly.
