when did skateboarding become so fashion centric? don’t get me wrong - I totally play into it too and follow a couple trends, but it’s so interesting to see. maybe because of Instagram?

It's always been about fashion but now it's different. Kids are spending their parents money on designer clothes that are made to look like hand me downs.
Definitely since day one there’s been some characters with crazy looks but it hasn’t always about their fashion but more about the skateboarding. The Internet enable people to look back and glorify what they deem cool. Social media helps grow trends and allows mega corporations push and profit. It is interesting around 2012 when social media hit hard and corporations like Nike and supreme gained footing skateboarding Became a status symbol and fashion style.
