I'm not a geograher, BUT I do respect and appreciate their cartographic works. They are valuable to illuminate lawyer's works including myself to give indication about traditional land property rights which are not properly accounted by modern laws.

I'd never heard the term GIS until recently. Reading into it has been a neat little rabbit hole and I have nothing but respect for people who work in this field.
Thank you for teaching me the basics of GIS. An aspiring environmental science student here, starting school this fall. I was looking for a simple definition, but instead, you conveyed the importance of mapping systems as a way of communicating, allocating, and advocating on behalf of groups of individuals whos voice may not be as strong as ours is yet. or at least, doesn't have as much of an audience. Thanks again!

I use GIS everyday to map out pipeline construction, so I really appreciate what it can do and the impact it has on the world
Just looking at this professors version of ArcGIS is so unreal. The stuff we use today is so much more advanced, and only in a few years time. Even the sensors we use to collect the data are wildly technological to the point where we can detect (and map) radiation in the atmosphere from space, and report on it twice a month(Limited by how fast the satellites travel around the earth.)

GIS & commercial real estate made me rich :) Oh, btw, I used to fail in geography at school because I was dyslexic but fortunately GIS is so visual that I can understand very intimately.

Hey am into GIS too as a geography student but am not sure how i can take ir on and use it in life as a job or career , it feels like most jobs want GIS to only be a part of whats expected from you :(

I worked on GIS platforms and I often think that very few people are aware about it. But got really happy after watching this video as I got this video after 6 years in 2020 during lockdown while looking for tutorials for GIS.

Redding is so essential being situated between Sacramento and Reno. Its also a beautiful to live there and a hub as agricultural depot for trade between the north and south western us.

The Answer is Yes and No. From a theoretical perspective GIS can solve spatial problems. The problem is most people who get into GIS are either heavily dependent on ESRI products and they lack Computer Science understanding. So they are unable to write advanced Algorithms to solve geographic problems. So its very hard to advance the field if all they are is a "GIS Technician/Analyst" which means someone who imports a map into ArcMap, performs some prebuilt Algorithm from ESRI and then done. If you can operate MS word anyone should be able to operate all the ESRI Products and even PCI Geomatics.

A $25,000 ESRI software is a little more complex than word processing 😂
@@letterzx - It is, but probably 80% of the users do little more than a geographic version of word processing. When every GIS conference is dominate by map showcases, it reduces the incredible power of analysis to little more than graphics.
On the other hand, don't belittle the impact word processing has had on society, and don't belittle the impact of basic spatial overlays. Simple capabilities have some of the greatest impacts.
QGIS is a really great place to start. Using it in an intro to GIS class in BSc Zoology in South Africa,
